The International Consortium for Social Development (ICSD) is an organization of practitioners, scholars and students in the human services. It was started in the 1970’s by a group of social work educators to respond to pressing human concerns from an international, interdisciplinary perspective. The organization seeks to develop conceptual frameworks and effective intervention strategies geared to influencing local, national and international systems. It is committed to creating peaceful solutions to the problems of survival at the local, national and global levels. ICSD members use a social development approach to: Develop capacity of individuals and communities Promote world peace and social justice Improve access to adequate health care and education Overcome discrimination against women and minorities Create sustainable income and economic structures ICSD serves as a clearinghouse for information on international social development. The Consortium fosters collaboration among personnel of organizations such as the United Nations, World Bank, UNESCO, and UNICEF as well as among professional associations in the human services and institutions of higher learning. ICSD is a well-established and widely recognized international catalyst for sharing ideas among many nations and across many cultures. The ICSD Technical Assistance Roster links members’ special expertise in international social development to agencies, governments and organizations upon request. We were founded in 2017 by Chrissa Wadlow after her own gruelling battle to gain her daughter a suitable education provision. Her journey, littered with injustice, was filled with a catalogue of errors and the family received very limited help from services they thought they could trust, creating irreparable damage for the entire family. It took 2 SEND tribunals, a high court case and one final SEND tribunal for Chrissa to gain the educational placement her daughter needed. It shouldn’t be this hard. Chrissa could not allow this to continue to happen, and so formed Sunshine Support to help other families navigate their way through the process of Special Educational Needs to ensure they received the RIGHT advice and guidance from trustworthy experts. Her story has inspired thousands of families to seek justice and exercise their right to the law.

I’m sad to say that this year [2014] was the last time VESL will be sending volunteers abroad. We have had an amazing 11 years working with some extremely hard-working people on projects I genuinely believe were worthwhile and made a difference to the local communities. I would like to thank all the past volunteers and coordinators, host families, in-country managers and fellow trustees, and most of all our two programme directors who formed VESL and kept it going through thick and thin – Ian Livingstone and Tom Harrison. Our hope is to develop a new funding model for VESL with an aim to return in 2015 as an educational grant-giving body – watch this space for more details. We are also hoping to arrange a reunion for all volunteers who have worked on VESL projects since 2003. In the meantime, we would love to hear how VESL has made a difference in your lives and what experiences you had in Thailand, India, and the place where it all began, Sri Lanka and welcome posts on the VESL facebook page.

Nottingham Society of Artists is one of the oldest and most successful art societies in the country, founded in 1880. Our aim is to bring together artists and others interested in the Visual Arts who are resident in Nottingham and district. The Society has a proud history of distinguished members whose works can be seen in major national art institutions, whilst other members' works can be found in practically every regional art gallery in the country, including Nottingham Castle. The home of the Nottingham Society of Artists is St Luke's House, pictured left, a three storey Art Deco building in Friar Lane, close to the picturesque setting of Nottingham Castle in the centre of Nottingham. St Luke's House was built for the Society in 1934. It has 4 floors including a basement, gallery, education studio, and members studio. Our studio groups practice Life, Clothed Model, Portrait and Still Life drawing and painting and meet six days and three evenings a week.
