Welcome to Hands to Communicate We deliver accredited British Sign Language courses such as Entry level three, Level one and Level two. We also offer deaf awareness courses. We set up as a Community Interest Company in 2017 after the local authorities ceased the delivery of British Sign Language in adult education centres. We have delivered accredited BSL courses with still a 100% pass rate on all our entry level three courses and our level one courses, with a high rate of people continuing their learning and completing their level two BSL course with a 98% pass rate. We have developed specialist courses taylored to organisation / businesses needs and worked privately with nurseries and school to support the children in the setting and their families Our aim is to breakdown the communication barriers and make British Sign Language more accessible for adults and children. The more people learning BSL to overcome the language barrier between to deaf and hearing communities, the more understanding and connected our communities will become. The One Community Trust (OCT) was created in September 2019 and currently consists of 4 primary schools, plus 5 Local Authority Designated Provisions sited at two of our schools. All schools received their Academy Orders on the same date and all converted on the same date. The Trust is a limited company by guarantee and is registered in England. The main purpose of the Trust is to be a place where schools (convertor or sponsor) can work collaboratively to be the best they can be. To support the well-being and development of staff so that they constantly perform to a high level and retention remains high. All schools are currently judged Good by Ofsted and we want to maintain our good judgements and ultimately strive for outstanding status. We are also passionate about enabling the sharing of best practice and achieving the economies of scale across the group of schools’ ensuring the very best value for money. The aim is for all schools in the Trust to be successful, self-governing schools providing the very best education for the children in its care. Much of the work in the first year will be focused on embedding systems and processes in order to have the solid foundations upon which we can take the next steps in our growth.

The Grafton Academy of Fashion Design was founded in 1938 by Pauline Elizabeth Keller Clotworthy. Born in 1912, Pauline was brought up in a large house in Glenageary, with several generations of family around her. Pauline showed a keen interest in sketching and writing and went on to study at Dublin's Metropolitan School of Art (now the National College of Art and Design). It was there that one of Pauline's tutors, artist Seán Keating cautioned her on turning her life drawing into fashion illustrations, this only encouraged Pauline who then went on to study the art of representing fabrics and textures using watercolour in Browns Paris School of Fashion in London. Upon her return to Dublin, Pauline was advised to further educate herself on how to realise her fashion drawings. Pauline returned to London to train at the British institute of Dress Designing. Pauline, understanding that she had benefited from an education that was not available in Ireland, decided she wanted to share the skills she had acquired. Shortly after graduating in 1938, Pauline established the Grafton Academy, Ireland's first design school and within a year it had staged its debut show. Early graduates from the college include Neilli Mulcahy, Ib Jorgensen and Clodagh Phillips, all of whom made a significant contribution in promoting Irish fashion culture, both home and abroad.
