The St Bernadette Centre has recently undergone significant refurbishment and investment. During May half-term, Sixth Form students join the annual Diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes to care for and assist the sick and disabled pilgrims. This is a very popular extra-curricular opportunity which really demonstrates the faith of our students in action. Throughout the week God’s love in action is seen through the selfless service of the young people and their generosity of spirit, sharing their talents and energy and time willingly with others.

As soon as I could walk I loved to dance. As a professional actress for many years I sang and danced in numerous productions. In 2007, during a period of illness plus injury from two car accidents, I wanted to do more aerobic activity to keep my spirits up. I pretty much loathed the intimidating atmosphere of the gym and was delighted to find the perfect combination of exercise and dance with ZUMBA. Back then, hardly anyone had heard of it and my ranting of how good it was was largely ignored. Now, of course, people all over the world join in the fun! Spurred on by friends and a couple of my ZUMBA instructors - I took the plunge to officially qualify and start my own classes. All ZUMBA instructors have their own 'flavour’. I am no spring chicken and hope to inspire some who may feel they are too old to boogie, or have worries about their physical capabilities for exercising. My aim is simple - to help you feel good about yourself! I teach Zumba Fitness, Zumba Gold, Zumba Gold Toning and Zumba Gold Seated/Supported in community venues and retirement villages in the Bristol area UK. About Small Woods » Our History Our History Small Woods are experts in the field of sustainable woodland management and social forestry, developing to meet the needs of these growing sectors, and work in partnership with other organisations. In the beginning 1988 - National Small Woods Association (NSWA) established aimed at supporting woodland practitioners, raising the profile of the UK’s under managed small woodlands and networking best practice amongst woodland projects. With strong support from the then Department of the Environment (DOE). 1994 - NWSA and Green Wood Trust (GWT) create a woodland college in Coalbrookdale near Ironbridge 1997 - NWSA Ltd becomes a company limited by guarantee and extends work to input on national and regional policy, while increasing the range of woodland management courses on offer. 1998 – Increasing public concern for sustainable management of local and ancient woodlands Small Woods Association becomes a charity 2000 – NWSA change direction and Small Woods Association (SWA) is established as a registered charity ‘to further education in the conservation of small woodlands’ 2001 – SWA are asked to host ‘Herefordshire Sustain Project’ - a partnership of woodland sustainability projects and policy context, following a seminar hosted by HRH the Prince of Wales and the Duchy of Cornwall 2001 – SWA establish Heartwoods Ltd - to re-link the timber supply chain, requested by the Forestry Commission as a follow on to the Marches Woodland Initiative. 2002 – SWA host a new Woodland Initiatives Co-ordinator role, funded by the Forestry Commission and Countryside Agency (now Natural England), to support a network of woodland initiatives. 2005 – SWA and GWT merge based at the newly re-named Green Wood Centre in Coalbrookdale, and become a focus for the coppice and greenwood sectors.

The influence of these Languages is manifest in slight variations in their pronunciation manifesting in different dialects namely: Onuaboh dialect (Ndosumili area), Akashiada, Utagba (kwale) and Osissa dialect. The one spoken by the majority of the people is the Utagba dialect. It is easily understood by the speaker of the other dialects and it is the dialect that is used for Ukwuani language studies. Ukwuani language is also included in the list of 27 Nigerian languages approved by the Federal Government for the purposes of “mother tongue education”. Ukwuani language has a common ancestry with the Igbo language and Edo language .

In 2016, Brunel celebrated 50 years as a university. However, our history can be traced back much further to 1798 through our predecessor colleges of Borough Road College, Maria Grey College, Shoreditch College and the West London Institute of Higher Education and as well as through Acton Technical College then Brunel College. Our rise since 1966 has been impressive and our reputation grows year on year. Now a university of 12,746 students – 3,309 students engaged in postgraduate and research study – our special approach is to combine academic rigour with the practical, entrepreneurial and imaginative approach pioneered by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The decision to be named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel was taken after much discussion. Rather than name the new College after a location, Dr Topping, the first Vice Chancellor of Brunel University (and former Principal of Brunel College) pleaded that the name should be a well-known person preferably an engineer or scientist associated in some way with Middlesex or Acton. Agreement was reached in March 1957 that person would be Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859) is one of the great British engineers of the 19th century. Isambard was born into an industrious family in 1806, with his mother Sophia Kingdom working for the Royal Navy and father Marc Brunel being a prominent French engineer. Isambard took on formal training as an engineer and went on to build twenty-five railways lines, over a hundred bridges, including five suspension bridges, eight pier and dock systems, three ships and a pre-fabricated army field hospital.To add to this he was a keen social engineer, building housing estates, churches and hospitals. Beccles

Sir John Leman was a Suffolk man who went to London in the 1580s and made his fortune by dealing in dairy products. He became a leading citizen of London during the reigns of Queen Elizabeth I and King James I, serving as Sheriff of London and later as Lord Mayor. He retained strong links with Beccles and, upon his death in 1631, he left a bequest to educate forty four students from Beccles, two from Ringsfield and two from Gillingham. Sir John Leman High School was established in 1632 at Leman House in Ballygate, a Seventeenth Century Grade 1 listed building which now houses the Beccles Museum. The wall of Leman House still bears the motto: ’Disce aut Discede’ (roughly translated as ’learn or go’). The school became the County Mixed Grammar School and moved to our present site in Ringsfield Road in 1914. The original school building still sits at the heart of the site, surrounded by the additional buildings and facilities which have been constructed and developed as the school has grown. In 1971, we became a Comprehensive High School and we converted to Academy status in August 2011. In 2014, an exciting major refurbishment programme was undertaken to welcome Year 7 and 8 students back to the site following the return in 2012 to a two tier education system and to ensure that our school continues to offer excellent facilities for many years to come. This included the creation of our Centenary Courtyard, a fitting celebration of 100 years of school life at Ringsfield Road. Sir John Leman High School has produced many generations of well-educated young people. A number of highly successful people have attended the school including Professor Dorothy Crowfoot-Hodgkin (Nobel Prize Winner), Sir John Mills (Actor) and Sir Stanley Rous (former FIFA President).
