John Bell & Croyden can trace its history to 1798 when John Bell opened the original pharmacy on Oxford Street, London. We are proud that John Bell and his son Jacob were pioneering pharmacists and played key roles in the founding of Pharmacy as a profession in the United Kingdom. Jacob founded the Pharmaceutical Society in 1841 (later to become The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain) and was the originator and first editor of The Pharmaceutical Journal. He was a Member of Parliament for St.Albans, an art collector and a considerable patron of the arts with friends such as artists William Frith, Edwin Landseer, and William Etty and authors Charles Dickens and William Makerpeace Thackeray. Until the advent of the 20th Century, the store was open seven days a week from 8am to 11pm. All staff were given time for recreation, religious observance and study and were actively encouraged towards self-improvement by attending lectures at the Pharmaceutical Society’s School of Pharmacy.

I believe that my understanding of life sciences, medicine and teaching makes me a better translator and that my translations benefits from the intensive work on maths, biology and chemistry that is part of my tutor role. About my business I established my business in 2012. I translate and edit documents in the fields of life sciences and medicine. In addition, I tutor up to fifteen students each year; many of them staying with me for several years as I support them up to their exams.

Publishing and Thesis ServicesWe’re really proud to say, The Book Hub Publishing Group is now the largest independent Publishing House in the scenic west of Ireland with Offices just outside Athenry town in County Galway and in Limerick. 2020 with the global pandemic seemed a good time to institute some change in direction in the life of the Book Hub Publishing Group which has been busy publishing authors since 2009. Very grateful to Niall, John and the crew for their work over the years, we really wanted to get a stronger sense of the company being led by women and promote the idea of female entrepreneurship in Ireland so we had a team meeting (Zoom as we were all in various states of lockdown) and agreed we needed a formal role of Head of Diversity, Inclusion and Equality – Dr. Mary Helen Hensley was perfect for the role with her life experiences and publication interests. We aim to review inclusion across the board in our projects. Our Northern Ireland Senior Script Reviewer, Anna Gray, was happy to maintain and build on her existing role and also move into ghostwriting. Dr. Phil Noone from Ocean Mindfulness, assumed Senior Irish Reviewer role and Susan McKenna took over as Director, Commissioning Editor and Author Rep. Since 2020, we’ve continued to grow and work with existing and new authors from as far afield as the United States, Canada, Switzerland and even Peru and, of course, we continue to work with Irish authors here in Ireland. We’ve also published several volumes of poetry and have more book projects from several genres in the pipeline. Being women in business is particularly challenging, but also deeply rewarding. We hope to continue to pave the way for diversity and inclusion in publishing and are committed to sparking creative talent. *We have been very fortunate to receive Arts funding for several of our books including ‘Eurydice 29’, ‘Midlandia’, ‘Going Back for all I’d on’ from the Arts Office, Westmeath County Council. Indeed, ‘Eurydice 29’ was also funded by the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht. ‘Bittern Cry’ was funded by Artl!nks and Waterford County Council. ‘Little Pocket of Love’ was funded by Humanli Social Impact Organisation.

Hal Higdon began running as a student at the University of Chicago Lab School and continued running competitively at Carleton College in Minnesota, where he won several conference championships. After school, Hal competed 8 times in the Olympic Trials, notching his best finish as 5th place at the 1960 Trials in the 3000 meter steeplechase. In the 1964 Boston Marathon, Hal placed 5th overall and was the first American finisher with his time of 2:21:55. His World Masters Championships M40 record of 9:18.6 in the steeplechase (set in 1975) remains the oldest American masters records in the books. Hal Higdon is a Contributing Editor for Runner’s World and is the magazine’s longest lasting writer, having contributed an article to RW’s second issue in 1966. He also is the author of more than three dozen books, including Marathon: The Utimate Training Guide and the recently published Hal Higdon’s Half Marathon Training. In 2003, the American Society of Journalists and Authors awarded Hal its Career Achievement Award, the highest honor given to writer members. Foxhole Community Garden CIC was founded in May 2015 by three childhood friends Zoe Jong, Kate Baker and Penny Hendy. The aim was to bring back into use Foxhole Community Garden as a resource for the local community and a place to offer therapeutic gardening sessions and gardening sessions for families. Our mission is to create and sustain an accessible, welcoming garden of use to people of all ages and sectors of the community. We use organic no-dig gardening methods and are working to create insect and wildlife habitats to encourage biodiversity in the garden. Zoe Jong is the garden co-ordinator and on-the-ground presence at the garden. A grower, gardener and forest school leader she runs most of the sessions at the garden and is the person to contact about the day-to-day running of the garden. C0- director Penny Hendy is a primary school teacher while director Kate Baker works as a children’s book editor. Alongside steering the overall vision and direction of the garden they provide administrative, governance and moral support which are invaluable in getting the project off the ground.

I am an artist, designer and tutor (the fun bits), as well as marketing manager, social media guru, content writer, website designer, photographer, video editor, sales person and book keeper all rolled into one. I love all things magical, mythical and fantastical, which I think creeps out just a little in my work! I like to appeal to the inner child that lurks inside us all and encourage people to allow their imagination out to play once in a while. Here are a few (hopefully) interesting facts about me and how I got here: I grew up in Hertfordshire, then moved around the UK following my studies and my career. I now live near Bishop Auckland in County Durham (North East England) with my partner and my Daisy dog. I was never interested in traditional art at school and honestly cannot recall a single art lesson beyond primary school. I have a Chemistry degree and a Masters in Forensic Anthropology. I am quite an extreme introvert and can happily go days without any human contact. I spent seven years working in Liverpool as a Crime Scene Investigator (CSI), followed by nine years teaching CSI's from across UK police forces and internationally. In 2015, I started making things in my spare time and started selling some of my creations at local craft fairs. In 2016, I discovered fabric sculpting, became the first certified Powertex tutor in the North East of England and began running my creative workshops in my spare time. In 2017, I was made redundant from my role as a Forensic Trainer and decided to use the opportunity to change careers completely and become a self employed 'artist'. (Most of my friends and colleagues thought I was a bit crazy at this point!) Since 2016, I have brought fun and creativity into the lives of countless adults and children through my workshops. I have also put smiles on the faces of even more people through exhibiting, sharing, displaying and selling my creations. And this is what I love so much about what I do now. I love sharing the happiness I get from creating. I love seeing that little smile appear when people see my creations at markets and events. I love seeing the joy and pride people get from creating something themselves. So, thank you for supporting me. Even if it is just by visiting my website or liking my facebook page, it all allows me to continue spreading happiness as well as making me a very happy, creative bunny.
