The club was established in 1938 by pupils of Paget Road School in Erdington, Birmingham and was accepted into the Intermediate Division of the Birmingham Juvenile Organisation Committee. In their first two seasons Paget enjoyed instant success, winning the league title on both occasions; however the outbreak of the 2nd World War brought a halt to progress. Following the outbreak of peace, Paget joined the Birmingham Youth and Old Boys AFA, before moving to the Central Amateur League in 1949 and then the Worcestershire Combination (now Midland Combination) in 1950. In 1951 Paget Rangers purchased a site on Springfield Road in Walmley for a cost of £550. Springfield Road was to be Paget’s home for the next 42 years. The 1950s was a decade of consolidation for The Bears, before experiencing their first major success in 1960 when a unique quadruple was achieved. Paget won the Midland Combination League Title, The Midland Combination League Cup, The Birmingham Junior Cup and the Sutton Coldfield Charity Cup. Paget went on to retain the league title again in 1961. Further success followed in 1967 when Paget Rangers defeated Alvechurch to win the Midland Combination League cup (Alvechurch had beaten Paget in the previous year’s final). In 1970 Paget won the Midland Combination Premier Division for the third time, following that success with a second-place finish in 1971. In 1971 the club erected floodlights at Springfield Road, becoming the first Midland Combination club to have floodlights in the process. The switching on of the lights was marked by a visit of Aston Villa to Springfield Road, drawing a crowd in excess of 2000.

The CMRU was part of the Department of Civil Engineering which was consistently placed top in Scotland and in the top half dozen in the UK in successive national Research Assessment Exercises. They’ve shared their story below: Having struggled in the past to decide which independent school was right for our two children, we took interest in finding out what really makes a good school for a child, how exactly one can make that judgement and subsequently make the right decision. We could remember the sad feeling that enveloped us when a prep school we desperately wanted our first child to attend declined to offer him a place. We asked so many questions but no clear answer, which led to many more questions. At that point all we focused on was how beautiful the facilities of the school was and their outstanding academic performance but did not even stop to ask if our son would thrive in that environment. We went back to the drawing board and by acknowledging our child's strengths and weaknesses, we were able to place him in the environment that not only helped him develop but also to thrive. Here in the UK, we have world class boarding schools that people yearly apply to attend. This can pose a huge challenge for parents and young people when deciding. I am an Artist, Crafter and Photographer living in Worcester. I love all aspects of creativity enjoying experimenting with old and new styles and techniques. Several years ago I joined a photography group while living in Belfast, as I wanted to take photos to inspire my art work. It wasn't long before I fell in love with photography and started to see the world with fresh eyes. I have since developed a passion for nature and portrature and continue to develope on my skills as a photographer. Four years ago I was pointed in the direction of fluid art, which I been experimenting with and teaching for the last two years. The wonderful thing about fluid art is that it is accessible to everyone and as an abstract form can not be reproduced and unique to each person. I love randomness and beautiful shapes formed. While working with an art form that does not require precision I have been taking time to develop my graphite and pencil work skills and love drawing portraits, be in of an animal or human. I try to bring out the soul and character through the eyes while keeping a good likeness. Commissions are always welcome, so please get in touch if you would like one.
