I studied Art & Design at Stourbridge Art College in the West Midlands for three years, before moving to West Sussex to gain an Art with Related Arts degree at Chichester University. My sculpture work featured nationally on ITV’s morning programme. Exhibitions of my work include West Dean College and Worthing Museum and Art Gallery, West Sussex. I have also had the privilege of exhibiting my work in the Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition, Tokushima, Japan. Along with exhibitions at; Banks Mill Studios Derby, The Art House Wakefield, neo: Gallery Bolton, Gallery@OXO Oxo Tower Wharf South Bank London, Greenpea press Huntville Alabama, Hong Kong Baptist University Hong Kong and Cube gallery Moscow. After a period focusing on other art disciplines, I returned to printmaking and the joy of the process is what pushes my work forward creatively. Learning different printing methods has helped me to begin experimenting with distinctive approaches to my prints and printing style. I continue to enjoy drawing and working painterly with a variety of mixed media, developing my own instinctive style over many other art disciplines. After gaining my degree I went on to achieve my teaching qualifications, to teach 16+ students. I then gained my Qualified Teacher Learning & Skills (QTLS) professional status, which enables me to teach through all age groups (pre and post 16). I have been teaching Art classes in the West Sussex area for 20 years, both for local Adult Education and Chichester College, along with my own private workshops. I enjoy, and have taught, a wide variety of Arts & Crafts subjects and have an extensive & practical knowledge of many areas of the arts. Currently, I teach subjects as varied as Life Drawing, Watercolour, iPad Painting, Acrylics, Pastels and Chinese Brush Painting. I have also taught Pottery, Weaving, Face Painting and numerous craft classes. I am always striving to learn and pass on new techniques and ideas to my students. I hold a Level 3 NVQ in British Sign Language and am currently studying for my Level 6 NVQ. I also teach in this subject.

Welcome to Cademy. I'm Chris Carter. I love exploring the world with pen and brush whether it be by land, sea or air! Here on Cademy, I present tips and techniques I've learned over a lifetime of sketching, drawing and painting. My classes are designed with two purposes in mind: to present tips and techniques that help you learn new skills and master current skills; and as quick reference for those of you who have attended one of my live workshops. I create large, abstract watercolours and oil paintings in my studio.  I travel more than half the year, painting and teaching live workshops mainly in the UK, Paris, California and Maryland. While traveling, I work realistically, mostly in sketchbooks.  Even when at home I make sure to sketch dailyt from reality to keep my eye, hand and brain coordination well-honed. An interdisciplinary UK based visual artist, educator and researcher exploring the potential breaking disciplinary boundaries and finding new ways to approach communication. Exploring how art and science can come together to benefit our health and wellbeing. Sarah has a personal interest in Neurology and Neuro diversity due to having drug resistant Epilepsy. Artist's Practice: Sarah L Goy MA, (Dis) - Animation Production. Sarah initially studied Fine Art and then Natural History Illustration, she now embraces the potential of the moving image. Her focus has always been on emotions, nature and her environment, with a specialisation in drawing and painting from life. Inspired by her travels she aims to capture every day moments in her sketch books, which are the foundations for all her other works. Although taking an analogue and tactile approach to her practice Sarah has become interested in the possibilities and potential of technology, experimental animation and the moving image and how they might be used beyond pure entertainment. This became part of her post graduate research in 2021 and continues to be the core of her research interest. As a visiting lecturer at Arts University Bournemouth ( AUB) and Southampton Art Gallery, she creates and presents new courses, with the emphasis on ' art for all'. Encouraging students to enjoy the process of creating and getting in touch with their inner child. Sarah also creates and runs online art therapy styled creative sessions, again, encouraging a sense of play through which new skills are gained, whilst encouraging a sense of community and inclusivity.

I am a freelance designer-maker, applied artist, crafts-woman, whatever you want to call me – I stitch stuff by hand; fabric, metal, porcelain, leather, vitreous enamel.. . My work is various, it depends whether I am working for myself, to commission or collaborating with other artists. But whatever I do is slow to make; detailed hand stitching in any material whether in silk, linen, wool or wire takes time, consequently my work is also slow to evolve. I decided to show on this site what I do, who I am work with, how I work and also how I think. I want to show the work behind HER WORK not just the finished things. The journey from the first idea, searching, researching, drawing, sampling and eventually making the finished piece. You will be able to watch my work progress, or not; maybe by seeing this record people will come to value making that is manufactured by hand, heart and eye. In May 2010 I developed – Heart Space Studios ( from my yoga practice “Put your Hands in your Heart Space”) and for 5 years it was a space in Bristol England for all things textile. The activities at the studios can still be viewed – I closed the studio workshops in 2015 – the classes remain on this site as part of the blog, they contain many of my most popular posts….. Heart Space Studios continues as a group of makers who develop projects primarily for publishing companies. Most notably we work with designer Kaffe Fassett in the production of his patchwork quilt books and other fabrics.

Nottingham Society of Artists is one of the oldest and most successful art societies in the country, founded in 1880. Our aim is to bring together artists and others interested in the Visual Arts who are resident in Nottingham and district. The Society has a proud history of distinguished members whose works can be seen in major national art institutions, whilst other members' works can be found in practically every regional art gallery in the country, including Nottingham Castle. The home of the Nottingham Society of Artists is St Luke's House, pictured left, a three storey Art Deco building in Friar Lane, close to the picturesque setting of Nottingham Castle in the centre of Nottingham. St Luke's House was built for the Society in 1934. It has 4 floors including a basement, gallery, education studio, and members studio. Our studio groups practice Life, Clothed Model, Portrait and Still Life drawing and painting and meet six days and three evenings a week.

My practice has evolved to include a variety of media. I work with natural inks, watercolours and oils; often combining these with drawn elements, print and collage. Taking a process-led approach through open-ended drawing and painting, my own experience and understanding of nature sustains an individualistic, painterly language. Visualising formal content for abstract work, I allow elements to take their time and rely on my mind’s eye as a guide, unaware of the outcome. Studio experimentation on a range of surfaces generates a family of diverse but connected artworks. This ‘what if?’ process embraces a notion of becoming; something is caught, glimpses perhaps from a kind of reverie, half-dreamed. Often coupling the familiar with the unfamiliar, the paintings I make can be read as a string of things, as a syntax of forms. Analogous to language; the work occupies the space between word and image, voice and brush-mark, sentence and form.

With the charitable support of our friends and parents of our students, the school has been thriving and has been providing high quality Chinese education for the local Scottish community ever since. Apart from the Cantonese & Mandarin language classes for children, there are also arts & culture classes, such as learning the Chinese musical instruments of Guzheng and Erhu, Chinese traditional dance, recital of poems and drawing for those interested.
