The Institute can trace its origins to informal gatherings amongst the earlier pioneers of state school business leadership over 40 years ago. As our education system has evolved, the education workforce has had to adapt. As schools continue to be afforded more local autonomy, and with it more direct accountability, the need for well-trained, qualified and competent school business professionals (SBPs) has become increasingly important in all school leadership structures. Between 2001 and 2012, the National College led a government-sponsored programme to develop thousands of SBPs. The coalition government favoured a move towards a sector-led, self-improving system, which signalled the end of National College SBP sponsored programmes. To continue the important SBP workforce professionalisation work initiated by the National College, in 2017 ISBL became a nationally recognised professional body by being granted the prestigious status of institute. Our role in the education system ISBL’s principal function is to provide all education stakeholders with confidence in the capability of school business professionals. In order to adequately serve our education system, this workforce needs to consist of technically competent, highly skilled and experienced practitioners. Here at ISBL, we set the benchmark for effective practice through sector-endorsed professional standards and provide development opportunities for our professional community and their institutions through a portfolio of quality-assured qualifications, training, resources, research and events. Helping secure a brighter future for our children: A blueprint for school business leadership practice This is a statement of ISBL’s intent, with effective school resource management at its core. It sets out our vision and commitment to supporting the ongoing development of a critical, fit-for-purpose workforce, along with the necessary steps towards equipping a cadre of professionals ready and able to support other school and trust leaders in responding to the complex challenges of our evolving education system. Using a non-partisan approach, we provide the Government with feedback from our community and a technical steer in areas of policy relevant to our expertise. In essence, we act as the conduit between policy and practice. We support all school business professionals We recognise the professional diversity that exists within the SBP community. In a mixed-economy education system, it is inevitable that there will be a variety of operating models – some very large and some much smaller. The structures that support these organisations will differ, as will levels of responsibility, accountability and complexity. It is therefore unsurprising that there are many versions of the SBP role. As an institute, it is our aim to develop and support practitioners at every stage of their career journey, whether they are an aspiring SBP, a practitioner in a standalone setting or indeed operating at an executive level across a number of schools.

I'm a mum of two, and a certified Relaxation & Sophrology Therapist based in Kings Heath and Stirchley in Birmingham, UK -consulting online and in-person, in French and English, for stress & anxiety management, pregnancy and birth preparation, children, sleep issues, mindset coaching and self-development, and life transitions and challenges. ‍ My Approach ‍ Sophro by Nature was born from my passion for People and Nature, and my desire to promote a healthier and deeper connection between our body and mind, and the world around us. Sophro comes from the Greek "Sos" and "Phren" meaning awareness/balance of the Body-mind connection, and "by Nature" refers to the fact that this connection/awareness is natural - but with life's busyness we tend to forget about it. It also refers to my passion for bringing therapy to the outdoors. ‍ I use relaxation therapy along a holistic therapeutic method - called sophrology - that combines classic relaxation techniques with mindset coaching, and which blends the best of Western science (hypnotherapy, positive & behavioural psychology, relaxation techniques, guided imagery, counselling skills) and Eastern traditions (mindfulness, yoga, breathing, visualisation, meditation) to balance the body-mind connection and provide a more serene approach to life challenges. (see FAQ for more info on Sophrology). ‍ All the techniques I use are advocated for by the NHS on their website and have been shown to be effective by research studies - my own background is grounded in science with a (honour) MSc in Environmental Studies and Ecotourism from Edinburgh Napier University. I've also spent over 400 hours in training and supervised therapy for two years in a state-accredited school in France to become a Relaxation and Sophrology Therapist :) ‍ About Me After I became a mum for the first time in the US, I was looking for a new way of being a working mother. When we moved to Luxembourg, I set up a project coming from my heart: working with children and families. This led me to create my own Professional Training Center in Language Development and Nature Education in Luxembourg. Thanks to this experience, I've worked with people of all ages, walks of life, cultures and nationalities - parents and babies, young children with special needs, mums and dads to be, grandparents, language therapists, and early-years educators. ‍ Working with parents and children also naturally led me to understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle, general well-being, and stress management. This is what started my life-long mission, and prompted me to train as a Relaxation and Sophrology Therapist: to provide support and ways to alleviate stress-related issues that I witnessed - much too often - in people's daily lives. My own experience living and working in various countries with different cultures expanded my cultural and diversity sensitivity - this is why I chose to specialise in children, families, and especially expatriates/immigrants and Third Culture Kids. A brief description of who we are, who we aim to be and some guiding principles. In short, we want to be the service we could've done with as teens. We are a collective, this means if you want to get involved with us but feel something below needs to change, we can discuss that. Contact us We are a UK-Based collective made up of LGBT+ Travellers working to provide support, representation and a platform for LGBT+ Travellers. Our focus is both on local action/solidarity and gaining wider recognition for issues faced by those of us in this particular intersection. “Travellers” is used as inclusively as possible. There is enough commonality of experience and discrimination to make this inter-group solidarity important. We still recognise the differences between the groups but believe there is enough shared experience, including discriminations, to make us effective allies for one another and to mean we’re often fighting the exact same battle. We operate on a self-identification policy rather than relying on ethically dubious ideas of racial purity. There is no hierarchy of settled vs nomadic, but we do acknowledge the different issues that can occur as a nomadic/peripatetic Traveller vs a settled one (and again, the difference between settled on sites vs settled in housing). Traveller in this context can mean Romany Gypsies, Welsh Kale, Irish Travellers, Scottish Travellers, New Travellers, Van Dwellers, Boaters, Bargee, Showmen, Circus People. Anyone who positively (but not necessarily publically) identifies as LGBT+ and a Traveller is welcome. We are a loose collective rather than a codified charity because we feel this makes it easier to respond quickly, without as much red tape. Despite this, we want to operate as transparently as possible. To this end: We have meetings at least quarterly, minutes are available to whoever requests them unless we have good reason to believe the request is vexatious or malicious. We do have a bank account & paypal, our finances can be looked at and explained upon request unless we have good reason to believe the request is vexatious or malicious. We welcome scrutiny and will attempt to be transparent when questions are asked of us unless we have good reason to believe the request is vexatious or malicious or if it would infringe on an individual's privacy. We reject the stereotyped oversimplifications of “Travellers are Homophobic/Transphobic”. It can be difficult to come from some more traditional backgrounds among Travellers but there is enough variation within the groups to make this meaningless. We don’t exist because Travellers are bad people, we exist because there’s currently not a space for us at all. This is more because until recently Traveller activism has been focussed on the essentials of survival (a place to stay, access to sanitation) or very base human demands (education etc.) and it is only now that we have wanted to shine light on the diversity within our communities. Equally, we reject the stereotyped oversimplifications of “LGBT+ people are anti-Traveller”. This can be the case, but is not the rule. We aim to provide regular space for our community to meet, network and build links of solidarity. We want to represent LGBT+ Issues in Traveller spaces and Traveller issues in LGBT+ Spaces. Given our particularly inclusive definition of Traveller, we also aim to shine a light on the communities that have been often overlooked by mainstream Traveller activism or Traveller charities. Decisions are made either at our meetings or by consulting with the general steering group “Pridesters”- You may request to join this. We value inter-group solidarity. This looks like actively welcoming collaborations with others and actively challenging prejudice when we find it, regardless of it impacting us. In terms of direct help: we offer outreach phone calls to offer advice and combat isolation, a solidarity fund and logistic help with leaving difficult situations. We have access to a network of Traveller-friendly safehouses (which we’re looking to build upon) to get you safe if needs be.

We’re a group of migrant women based in East Glasgow and together we’re creating a vibrant, female-led collective based around our favourite thing: food! By swapping recipes, ideas and skills, we’re making women’s lives brighter. Our not-for-profit organisation brings together women from all over the world, ending social isolation and empowering them to develop their talents- in the kitchen and beyond. 1. WE ARE A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE When we say ‘not-for-profit’, we mean just that! We believe that making a difference to people’s lives is more important than making money. Soul Food Sisters’ role is to empower migrant women in the local community to start their own businesses, encourage their abilities and increase confidence. That’s much more valuable than a fistful of tenners. 2. IT’S A LEARNING CURVE Sharing skills is a big deal for us. We are paid a flat rate and we all work together, which can mean anything from peeling bags of spuds to attending high-flying business meetings. By learning from each other, we can become stronger and more powerful together. 3. WE ARE ALL WOMEN We are built on the idea of sisterhood, so Soul Food Sisters is a women-only workers co-op, open to females from diverse backgrounds who love to cook. (Sorry, guys!). But if you’re female and you’d like to join our collective, get in contact as we would love to hear from you. If you work with us for a while, you could be offered membership to the co-operative. 4. EVERYTHING WE GET, WE PUT BACK IN Soul Food Sisters have an appetite for making great food, but when it comes to business, we’re not greedy. Any surplus cash after paying wages goes straight back into the collective. Also our assets are locked, so in the unlikely event we go bankrupt, nobody will be allowed to go home with the soup urns or chopping boards! 5. WE ARE A DEMOCRACY All the women in the Soul Food Sisters collective get a fair share and a listening ear. We make all our decisions by consensus, which isn’t always the quickest way, or the easiest. But consensus means that everyone is treated with respect and that we genuinely make decisions as a unified group. Every single one of us has equal ownership. 6. WE ARE ETHICAL To us, having a clear conscience is just as important as having a clean kitchen. We source ethical ingredients wherever possible and support other co-ops, making sure to buy our food locally. Of course, sometimes there are ingredients - like rice paper, for example - that we have to go further afield to find! But ethically sourced food is our utmost priority. 7. WE BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF FOOD We believe that food has the power to bring people together. By harnessing the spirit of Glasgow and it’s culturally diverse and fascinating communities, we provide food that celebrates diversity and for people of all cultures to enjoy together. 8. WE ARE SMART LADIES FROM ALL OVER THE GLOBE At the moment, Soul Food Sisters is made up of eight women from 5 different continents. From Malaysia and Cuba to Poland and Thailand, we are a culturally mixed group, with many skills to share. And our talents extend further than just the kitchen. Together our cooks can do anything, whether it’s teaching German, making wine, designing buildings or driving trains! 9.THE HIDDEN GARDENS HAVE HELPED US GROW We would not be here without the help of the Hidden Gardens, at Tramway. This is the place where we met and cooked together for the first time, and we are grateful for their continued support. 10. AND FINALLY…WE MAKE GREAT FOOD Our food is what makes us tick. It’s who we all are, what we grew up with, what brings us together. We believe that our food is a reflection of our individual personalities and family traditions. Founded in 1991, we have been delivering international education students for 31 years. Today, our courses help over 50,000 UK and international students achieve academic success every year. Students can join us for every stage of their academic journey. Our Group is home to five University Partnerships across the UK and Europe, and six English Language schools across Canada, USA and the UK. Our History Oxford International Education Group was founded in 1991 as ISIS Education and Travel by David Brown and Robert Darell. The company started operating outbound tours for UK University students through the academic year from September to June. During the summer, we established summer English languages courses for international students. To gain financing to grow the business, the Founders turned to the Prince’s Trust, one of the UK’s most successful youth charities. The Trust offered David and Robert a £5,000 loan and two mentors to help see the business through the next stage of its lifecycle. Oxford International has grown to be one of the top 10 businesses sponsored by the Trust and remains closely associated with it today. The education opportunities we can offer students from around the world have grown in diversity and size since then, enabling us to support over 500,000 students since 1991. A Brief Timeline of the last 29 years In 1993, we established our first UK adult English language school with the acquisition of Greenwich School of English. In 1999, we opened the Brighton School of English, offering General English courses. Oxford International added Bucksmore Education to our family to provide high-quality summer courses to individual students in 2003. Growing our presence in the UK’s academic centre, in 2010, we were delighted to acquire Oxford Sixth Form College in the centre of Oxford next to Oriel College. In 2013, Oxford International went international for the first time, acquiring our Vancouver and Toronto English language schools. The same year, Oxford International was very proud to sign a Pathways partnership agreement with De Montfort University to open and run the Leicester International Pathway College (renamed to De Montfort University International College) in the heart of the great De Montfort campus. Our first students arrived in June 2014. In 2014, we were proud to invite Bowmark Capital on board as a minority investor in Oxford International. Bowmark are very experienced investors in the education and travel sector, with their support, we were able to pursue our ambitious strategy for growth in the UK and overseas. Also in 2014, we added San Diego to our centres in North America. Back in the UK, d’Overbroeck’s School was welcomed to the Group, and we acquired Homelingua, now known as Bucksmore Home Tuition. In 2016 Bangor University International College welcomed its first cohort of international students. Since then, we have continued to grow our University Partnerships division with two partners in the UK and one in Germany. In 2017, International College Dundee began teaching integrated Bachelors and Masters courses. The University of Greenwich International College followed in 2018, becoming our first embedded college in London.
