The Christian Union (CU) and NIFES Alumni Association UK and Europe (CUNAA UK-EU) is a body of Christian believers living in Europe who were once members of the Christian Union (CU) and NIFES fellowships at The University of Benin, Nigeria (UNIBEN) as well as at The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH). Membership of the association also includes immediate family members and friends of CU and NIFES Uniben and UBTH alumni members who want to be involved in all aspects of the association’s mission, vision and abide by its ethos and values. Our Vision Our vision is to build a community of Christians who are united by their freedom in Jesus Christ and their passion for the transformation of society. Our Mission Our mission is to live out our faith through practical acts of love. Our Values Prayer – we believe in the power of prayer to change us, our communities and the world around us. Mission – to preach the good news of Jesus Christ in this nation and the world. Justice – to give towards, support or execute practical projects that relieve suffering or promote benevolence. The Navigators has grown out of one man’s pursuit of God. Dawson Trotman lived in America. As he sought God, the Lord promised to build him ‘a house’. At a time when the Christian world saw no ministry beyond evangelism, he was led to invest deeply in the lives of the few in order that they could reach the many. This began in the 1930s with US Navy personnel. It grew significantly through WWII. Following the war the Navigators spread out through the world, it is now in over 100 countries world wide. The Navigators came to the UK through the Billy Graham crusades of the 1950s. Billy Graham, frustrated by the unwillingness of local Christians to help those who came forwards at his meetings, asked Dawson Trotman to develop what has since become known as “follow-up”. The Navigators therefore supported Dr Graham in all his crusades. During the Haringey crusades, Christians’ eyes were opened to the possibilities of discipleship, and asked the Navigators to minister in the UK. Initially Joyce Turner came to set up an office for materials and as she did this she also began a ministry among women. As interest developed, more Navigators came to set up ministries in communities and universities, which became the starting block for the current ministry.

The Queen’s Foundation is one of England’s oldest theological colleges, preparing candidates for ordained ministry in the Church of England since the early part of the 19th Century. From 1970 Queen’s pioneered ecumenical training with the Methodist Church as a primary partner. Queen’s was also a pioneer of ecumenical part time training and of having a dedicated research centre. As our ministry has grown over the last several decades we have continually asked the question – What is it that we have to offer through the Holy Spirit to both those in need and/or those within the church seeking deeper relationship with Christ? We have discovered that through a mixture of teaching, training and a more tailored mentoring approach we can help individuals, groups and churches to fulfill more of their potential in Christ. That is, to disciple them in ways that impact all areas of their lives. Our background combines business and training, research and therapeutic work together over many years, alongside church planting and church growth. We bring a high level of hands on pragmatism with all these skills. We are not content with just teaching and envisioning. We also focus very specifically on the how-to-do-it, the step-by-step approaches that turn Biblical ideas into a new way of life in Christ. Also our approach is collaborative – what we mean by this is that we help you identify what your own options are, what your own values are, what your calling in Christ really means to you. Then we support you in achieving this through our training programs. We are also developing these ideas academically, looking beyond our own calling and practices. We work alongside local congregations, helping to equip them for both local church life and wider mission. We also offer training for Christian leaders and those who want to learn to help others. All our resources and programs are intended to help support a persons ongoing discipleship journey – your journey into greater wholeness. In all that we offer we are always seeking to answer the often-heard basic question, ‘how do I do that?’. Therefore most of our programmes are tailored to the needs of the participants. No two events are alike, so be warned!
