It’s obvious to us that diversity problems won’t be solved by panel discussions or in echo chambers. And so we designed The Blueprint mark. Its purpose is simple: to help talented Black, Asian, Mixed Race and Ethnic Minority pros get the careers they deserve, and to help organisations genuinely committed to diversity to benefit from their talent. In 2018 and 2019 we brought together two genuinely diverse groups to work together to come up with solutions to the PR industry’s diversity problem. They included rising stars and powerhouses with incredible careers. They included in-house pros and agency heads, crisis comms specialists and an award-winning creative. There was a Mum of twins, an ex-soldier, a counsellor and a councillor. A D&I specialist, a healthcare policy expert, a disability campaigner (with great hair!) and a kick-ass HR director. There was a born and bred Mancunian, a Scot, Nigerians, a Jamaican and even someone from the exotic land of Leamington Spa. In mixed groups they were introduced to a number of harrowing case studies based on the experiences of people working in PR and comms and ran through a series of exercises. They leaned into the uncomfortable, they laughed, they listened and they worked. Through those workshops, The Blueprint was born. And those incredible individuals? They serve as advisory board members (meeting three times a year and shaping our work) and consultants (on hand to provide an additional steer). As for day-to-day? The Blueprint is delivered by Blueprinted, a company with purpose led by founder Elizabeth Bananuka and Project Manager Olivia Danso, with the support of NEDS Anouchka Burton and Daljit Bhurji. Profits from The Blueprint are used to support the work of BME PR Pros.

I am fortunate enough to be the Principal of Homefield College and am delighted that you have found your way to our website to explore the many opportunities that the College provides to support people with learning difficulties and / or disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. Homefield College was founded in 1987 as a long-term residential provision for people with learning and communication difficulties. We have since expanded our offering with specialist further education and training, supporting both part-time and full-time day and residential students. The College now offers a range of individualised vocational education programmes based within local communities. All programmes are tailored to the needs of each individual with the starting point being that they feel safe in the environment that they are in. Once this is achieved it allows our staff to work with them to develop and improve their skills to enable them to live more independently once they leave the College. You will see on the website details of the activities that we provide which put together make up a study programme. Our education provision is based upon our belief that young people achieve through experience and this is reflected in the activities provided in our programmes. Students will undertake work experience and we hope that for some of them this will lead to a supported internship. Beyond the education provision, we also offer residential experiences for those who would like to further develop their independent living skills and this can often provide a period of respite for the student’s family. Homefield also provides a range of services for those who remain as part of our lifelong learning provision. These include: long-term residential care, supported work experiences, day services and community enterprises. The Early Years Steve has always loved sports and fast cars, boats and planes. A budding footballer, he dreamed of the day that he would captain his beloved Aston Villa, and then England at the World Cup. But his world soon grew cloudy, and then disappeared. Confused and very lonely, Steve found himself totally, and irreversibly blind. He was 12 years old. But Steve is a remarkable person. Offered the chance of selling matches on street corners, he took another path, and has spent his life breaking every barrier that stood in his way. Breaking Barriers A world junior sprinter, Steve went on to play for the England Blind Cricket team. He trained with Aston Villa, then fulfilled his lifelong ambition by leading his English blind football team to the World Cup. Steve then set himself an audacious challenge: to become the fastest blind man on the planet. He powered to 2 world speed records on land and sea, then took to the air and found international media fame as the world’s first blind pilot. Steve does have one handicap in life: golf …he plays off 54. The Inspiration As an international speaker, Steve inspires & motivates businesses, organisations and the education sector both nationally and internationally with audiences of all ages. His deeply-moving story takes audiences on his journey from despair to success. His core message is that anyone can break barriers; that the path to true success is in your mind, and not your ability or environment. A witty, humorous, entertaining and painfully-honest speaker, he makes people laugh and cry. A genuine man, Steve sees no disability in his total lack of sight, but takes pride in sharing true vision, which many sighted people fail to recognise.
