Garforth Academy mainly serves the community of Garforth with some pupils travelling further to school from communities such as Micklefield, Kippax, Colton, Whitkirk, Swillington, Aberford and Crossgates. Whilst the majority of pupils live within walking distance we do have a broad intake of primary schools with current year 7 pupils coming from 27 primary schools. The Key Stage 2 APS on entry is broadly in line with national average but some year groups are slightly below national average on entry. The academy is larger than average, and has around 300 pupils per year group in Key Stages Three and Four with a large 6th form in excess of 400 pupils. We serve a diverse community and whilst a large proportion of pupils come from affluent backgrounds, some pupils live in areas containing pockets of deprivation, characterised by high unemployment, an inadequate employment base, low average income levels, poor physical and mental health and a degraded urban environment. It is therefore important that our curriculum meets needs the needs of all learners from a wide range of backgrounds. The proportion of disadvantaged pupils is below the national average (16% v 29%) as is the number currently in receipt of Free School Meals (7% v 12%). Pupils within the academy are mainly White British, with only 2.7% of pupils having EAL. The number of pupils with an EHCP is 1.3%, and a small number of pupils requiring behavioural and emotional support attend The Elland Academy in Leeds, which is a registered Alternative Provision within Delta Academies Trust. We serve our local community and work closely with partners to plan a set of learning experiences that meet the needs of our pupils. In addition, we use local, national and international labour market intelligence to plan courses to best prepare our young people for life beyond school. We have the highest standards and expectations for all pupils and we strive to provide a curriculum that respects the needs of all pupils as well as one that encourages young people to seek continuous development and improvement.

He has been with the practice since 2005. As well as general podiatry foot care, he is able to bring to the practice a variety of other podiatry disciplines including Nail Surgery, Sports Injury, and Biomechanical/Gait Analysis having done research in the area of the latter. High on David’s agenda is communication with the patient, which ensures best practice and patient understanding. As well as operating clinics at our Weybridge site, David also has his own business offering a home visiting service in the Camberley area called Goods Podiatry and Footcare. Tristan White - Senior Podiatrist tristan white Tristan White Senior Podiatrist BSc (Hons), MRCPod, HCPC Reg, MFPM RCPS (Glasg) Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council Member of the Royal College of Podiatry Member of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow Tristan has been a part of The Footcare Centre team since 2009; qualifying from the University of Brighton with an honors degree in Podiatry. He brings an enthusiastic, professional, caring, and modern approach to Podiatry and our team. Tristan has a keen interest and focus on the Biomechanics aspect of Podiatry, particularly with regards to the biomechanics of cycling. In addition to this, Tristan is able to offer a variety of Podiatric services; including Nail surgery, Verruca treatments in addition to general Podiatry and Chiropody. Of particular importance to him, is the continued professional development of his knowledge and skills. Tristan splits his time with his own practice in Staines as well as working here at The Footcare Centre.

The HSA is an independent registered charity, founded in 1911. It is the only UK charity concerned exclusively in the promotion of the humane treatment of all food animals worldwide in markets, during transport, at slaughter, and killing for welfare reasons and disease control. Growing numbers of people are interested and concerned about the welfare of the animals that provide them with food and the HSA has gained an international reputation for providing practical, science-based solutions to improve food animal welfare. The objectives of the HSA are: The promotion of humane methods of slaughter; The introduction of reforms in livestock markets (including transport facilities) where needed to prevent the suffering of animals. The HSA works to achieve these through providing: Technical information and advice on all aspects of animal handling, transport and slaughter. Training and education in humane methods of handling and slaughter of livestock for farmers, vets, abattoir staff and students. Technical and educational publications in a range of formats. Independent advice to governments, animal welfare organisations and the food industry worldwide. Visits to farm animal handling and slaughtering facilities, recommending and advising on improvements where necessary. Funding and support for essential research and other projects aimed at improving animal welfare during transport, in markets and at slaughter. Assistance with development and application of scientific advances into the working practices of the meat industry. The HSA's work has resulted in many significant improvements for food animals around the world and many of the reforms it has promoted in transport, markets and slaughter are now taken for granted. Since 2010, the Software Sustainability Institute has facilitated the advancement of software in research by cultivating better, more sustainable, research software to enable world-class research (“Better software, better research”). In 2018, we were awarded funding from all seven research councils. Our mission is to become the world-leading hub for research software practice. The Institute is based at the Universities of Edinburgh, Manchester, Oxford and Southampton, and draws on a team of experts with a breadth of experience in software development, training, project and programme management, research facilitation, publicity and community engagement. We started in 2009, and we’ve been on an epic journey ever since. From our beginnings where we were solely focused on children’s football coaching to delivering our first ‘100% Active’ session in 2017, we’ve tried to stay true to our core beliefs. These are that all children should have the opportunity to develop through a variety of exciting activities that engage both body and brain, inspiring them to have a happy and healthy lifestyle. From the outset our focus has always been on children and their enjoyment of being active, learning new skills, improving their confidence and developing friendships. When we started in 2009 were running sessions for approximatley 40 children a month; this has now increased to almost 2000 children a month. We genuinely love being part of the children’s development and over the years we have had some amazing stories to tell. We find it fascinating to observe how individual children are in their handling of situations and how they get their characters across when integrating with new groups of children, even at the age of 18 months old. It is this kind of reward that keeps us focused on our goals, but we have a big challenge! Children of today are growing up in a world where they can lose hours during a day, day after day, week after week through being on electronic devices, during which time they have no interaction with other people. We have to acknowledge that we are living in a technology encompassing world now, but our vision is to create a balance between technology and being active. We want to offer variety and engagement through the sessions we offer to ensure children don’t lose the vital skills which will help them as they develop in life… things such as social skills, the ability to converse, the ability to handle situations, to adapt to changing environments, earn respect, be part of a team and how to win and lose.
