How it Started After running successful businesses in the food and beauty industries, we met over our love for food and helping the community. Gurdip was introduced to veganism by her son who became vegan at 17, over 10 years ago. Embarking on this new adventure felt overwhelming yet restricting as to what to make at mealtimes that would please the whole family. Jenny & Gurdip-min Jenny trained at some of the country’s top eating establishments and has cooked for royalty and A-list celebrities alike. Gurdip turned to her friend Jenny for some advice and support. With Jenny’s expertise, guidance and amazingly tasty recipes, Gurdip was able to navigate around this new realm, find delicious recipes for the whole family and, more importantly, find a love for cooking she’d never had before. Jenny enjoyed it so much that she changed to a vegan way of life over 5 years ago. First and foremost we are women in our 40s who want to look after ourselves and our families. We also want to dispel the myth that vegan food is boring and complicated – in fact, far from it. Our Ultimate Plant-Based Cookery Course gives you all the tools you need to give you the confidence to make and cook a whole month’s worth of delicious vegan and plant-based meals, snacks and treats from your home. You will receive recipes for 31 days of breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as snacks, desserts and treats, so that you never have to search for inspiration. To make it even easier, we’ve included shopping lists to make sure you have everything ready to start your month of great-tasting plant-based and vegan meals. You can access our exclusive, private Facebook community, where our founders will be on hand to answer any of your questions, you can share your creations and get support from others who have taken part in our Ultimate Plant-Based Cookery Courses. The Globe at Hay is an independent arts centre embracing an ever-changing arts landscape. In 2008, Hilary Lawson, an already long-standing resident of Hay-on-Wye, saw that the Methodist Chapel at the end of town was up for sale. Thinking that this uniquely creative town would benefit hugely from access to a gamut of arts and events, The Globe at Hay was founded. Believing firmly in the ‘Town of Books’ and our local community, The Globe at Hay pledges to invest in making a space where all can come together to share in culture and expression. We want to ensure that being based rurally is no barrier to exceptional events. In our programme, you will find films, live music, talks & debates, workshops, art exhibitions, courses and opportunities for schools. We believe that in a small community like Hay-on-Wye, an arts centre has a duty to work with its audience and listen to feedback so that the programme is always diverse and relevant. Year-round, we showcase talent found on our doorstep, and we are proud that we have a local audience from the town, as well as people that travel from further afield. Over ten days in May, when the world turns its attention to Hay-on-Wye for the festivals, The Globe at Hay works alongside the internationally renowned music and philosophy festival, HowTheLightGetsIn, on the riverbank of the Wye River. We have an education programme that focuses on creating work that encourages students and teachers alike to explore big topics through creative and experiential workshops. The Globe at Hay is particularly committed to ensuring that our work impacts hard-to-reach young people, and we are constantly exploring new funding streams to carry on this work. At The Globe at Hay, you will find our cosy and welcoming café and bar, run in collaboration with our Burger Me Restaurant. Our talented Head Chef has specially created a variety of delicious burgers guaranteed to get your taste buds tingling. We also have a huge range of side dishes, sharing plates, desserts and specials. We also have accommodation with our Stay in Hay cottages, Small Brook and Southwick (the latter available in late 2022). OUR STORY Our Story Macarons & More is the passion project of one man: Tim Kinnaird. Tim originally trained as a doctor and worked as a consultant paediatrician in Norwich. Although he loved his job, his passion for food was a thread that ran throughout his life – and when he was given the opportunity to explore it further, everything changed. As a contestant on MasterChef 2010, Tim caught the nation’s attention with his gentle manner and showstopping desserts. On his journey to the final, he cooked at Michelin-starred restaurants and even served a banquet for the Maharajah of Rajasthan. “Tim has the gift of making sweet things incredibly delicious - and his macarons are to die for.” JOHN TORODE The experience inspired Tim to leave his job in February 2010 and start a business from his kitchen. MasterChef judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace had spotted his ability for creating exquisite patisseries, and so did the public. Within six months, the business outgrew Tim’s house. #TeamMacaron was formed to cope with the growing demand and quickly grew to a nine-person operation once production moved to a kitchen in Watton, Norfolk. Expanding the team has brought in a whole range of additional skills and personalities. Macarons & More has been growing ever since. In 2011 we launched online, meaning we could deliver our delights throughout the UK. Then in March 2013, our beautiful shop opened in Norwich’s Royal Arcade. By 2014, it was getting tricky to meet demand both in the shop and from our wholesale and online customers. Don’t get us wrong; it was a very nice problem to have! With the support of our fantastic sponsors, including Belling, Magimix and Kenwood, we opened our new central Norwich bakery in January 2015. Now, we can cook up even more treats than ever. Our bakery is also where we run the very popular Macarons & More Cookery School. Led by Tim and the Macarons & More team, our classes are informal and hands-on, helping keen amateur bakers learn new techniques and recipes in a fun environment. In September 2018, we opened a second shop in Norwich’s busiest shopping mall: intu Chapelfield. As well as the support of our amazing customers, Macarons & More has received local and national acclaim. We won the Beautiful Baking category in the EDP Food and Drink Awards in 2013, and we were runners up in the Observer Food Monthly Awards in the Independent Retailer category in 2013, 2015 and 2017.
