Farnham

College is very different from school, it isn’t just about getting an education, it’s about making new friends, experiencing new opportunities, enjoying the student lifestyle and preparing yourself for the future. It’s about working in an adult environment, committing yourself to your studies and achieving your aspirations. Our professional, dedicated and industry experienced teaching staff make learning fun and engaging and give you the responsibility and independence you need to take charge of your own future. And, to help you with the transition, we have a comprehensive student support team that can assist with applications, securing funding, careers guidance and personal tutoring, to name just a few services! We have some exceptional resources that replicate real-world working environments including a state-of-the-art recording studio that will allow you to develop and apply theory and practical skills through recording, editing and mixing sessions; well-equipped art, design and graphic studios, as well as a photography studio and darkroom, giving you access to various camera, lighting and backdrop equipment; science labs; sports facilities, and over 350 computers around campus, including four Apple Mac Suites that are dedicated to media and music technology. On a typical day here, in between lessons, there’s space for quiet study in our Learning Resource Centre or hanging out with friends in the many spaces and communal areas. Missed breakfast or need a snack in between classes? You can grab a bite to eat or something to drink in our café.

Maleficent Things

maleficent things

I created Maleficent Things in 2016 out of my love of movies and fondness for fairytales. I began by making a collection of character themed charm bracelets representing princesses, heroines, villains and the misunderstood, from the likes of Cinderella to Hermione, the Evil Queen to Maleficent herself. Since then I have designed hundreds of items inspired by films, fairytales and literature. From quote pendants and pins to pin cushions and watercolour prints, Maleficent Things presents an enchanting collection of original film, fairytale and book inspired jewellery, stationery and gifts. I am delighted to also offer private workshops, jewellery making classes and parties for adults and children. All can be tailored to create the perfect bespoke package, so do get in touch if you would like to discuss ideas. When the pandemic made workshops and parties difficult, I created make-at-home craft kits to help people enjoy creative happy time at home, and so Charming Crafty Things was born. I now have a wide range of kits available here on this website, and you can find a handpicked selection on my Charming Crafty Things Etsy and Small and Beautiful shops too. I studied Art many moons ago and am delighted to once again have the opportunity to paint, design and create, alongside looking after my three delightful boys (superhero powers: sarcasm, hugs and sideblinding) and a huge fluffy dog (superhero power: mood enhancement). I thoroughly enjoy designing my Maleficent Things and creating crafty kits brimming with beautiful materials so that you can make your own lovely things too. I hope you enjoy your Crafty Charming Things as much as I do!

Warrington

Introduction to the Garden Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden was created by a wealthy Warrington banker, Thomas Parr, around 1830 when he built a new house and estate for his family. The land nearest the house was designated as parkland to give a suitable setting to the mansion and the outer areas were farm land. The landscape that existed at that time was incorporated into the estate and many of the woodlands, ponds and avenues that formed the parkland then still remain in place today. As a whole these features form a significant record of a landscape designed in the manner of a gentry country estate. It appears, from historical records, that the estate was at its height from 1875 – 1899 and this is considered to be the most significant period for the design and productivity of the garden. The house was demolished in 1975 but the 4 acre walled garden was retained as a local amenity. English Partnerships refurbished much of the garden as part of their development of the area and new housing, working closely with the Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden Conservation Project charity, the Warrington Organic and Wildlife Gardening Society and the Woodland Trust. Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council took ownership of the garden in 2005 and, with the help of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Friends of Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden, has developed the facility into a peaceful, well maintained and beautiful garden which is now a popular local visitor attraction and resource for horticulture, education and enjoyment.
