Shiv Textiles is an independent, Brighton-based studio closing the loop on the fast-fashion industry. We rescue deadstock yarn destined for landfill and handcraft it into fine homewares, lifestyle accessories and sustainable weaving kits for you to give a new life at home. Meet the maker: Siobhan Martin Let me spin you a yarn… My studio is about weaving sustainability into the textiles industry. By putting a modern spin on a traditional craft, I want to show that it’s possible for us to enjoy quality products – pieces you really cherish – while minimising the impact we have on the planet too. Shiv Textiles was born in my bedroom in 2017. As an intern for big-name brands in the textiles and fashion industry, I’d been shocked by the amount of perfectly good materials going to waste. And I knew there had to be a better way. Fast fashion needs to take its foot off the pedal. So I began contacting mills and factories, buying their yarns, zips, threads, buttons – all destined for landfill – by the kilogram. And it’s from this that all those cushions, scarves and weaving kits are created. This process never gets beige-and-boring. You have to think on your feet. Design with what you have. Every box of upcycled materials that lands in my studio feels like a small victory. Buying with thought and care has never felt so important, and as I hope you’ll join me in honouring the lifecycle of our precious materials. And enjoy my textiles too.

Our vision is to improve the future of children everywhere by enhancing learning experiences through activities that place creativity at the heart of curriculum learning. Our Story As Creatives began life in 2008 as a group of six freelance creative practitioners who all felt that the sum of our parts gave us a far greater chance of fulfilling our shared aim to see Creative Learning at the heart of education. With backgrounds across the Creative Industries, including classical acting, illustration, theatre directing and sculpture, we were all determined to keep space in our lives for our individual practices while finding time to work together to design a range of creative learning workshops and programmes, that we could offer to schools and the wider community. The success of this way of working led us very quickly to set up as a limited company and we have never looked back! Twelve years on our mission remains unchanged. We believe more than ever in the power of the arts to transform lives, fuelled by our first-hand experiences. We have expanded to work with a wider group of creative practitioners, all specialists in their fields, and we continue to work together both nationally and internationally to find new and exciting ways to engage children and young people in their learning.

Alice Goldsack is a graduate of Queens Road Art College and trained at Diana Porters studio for more than eighteen years. Her avant-garde style is sought after by the artistic and alternative customers familiar to her studio in Bristol, UK. Her pieces often mix quirky individuality with pure artistic talent and are highly collectible. With over 25 years’ experience in gold and silver smithing and fine jewellery making, Alice’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and even commissioned for costume design by Netflix. As a jeweller, one of Alices passions is as an educator. Since 2006 she has been tutoring privately and through mixed classes in her own custom built workshop just off Stokes Croft in the heart of Bristol. Her classes come highly recommended and will take complete beginners through to experienced artists and teach them the many techniques required to craft beautiful pieces of jewellery. Alice is well known for her private commissions, and with her eye for the personal touch, has become increasingly popular with engaged couples. Not only for making bespoke engagement and wedding rings, but also for her private wedding ring courses tutoring a couple on making their partners rings. With traceability and accountability a priority, Alice can source gold with a Single Origin Hallmark ensuring that her work, and the materials she works with are of the very highest quality and ethical standards.

Pinkspiration aims to inspire young people and transform communities. Our business was founded in July 2011 and offers skills based training to gain on site experience increasing knowledge to progress into industry, regenerating some of the 380,000 empty spaces and empty shops across the United Kingdom. Our business offers industry placements, mentoring, advice and guidance. Up skilling the next generation of young people to help close the increasing skills gap. Our team offers a number of opportunities through industry placements on our TV programme Transforming Spaces‘ Design Factor’ featured on BBC. Since launch 8,500 young people directly up skilled of which 70% have progressed onto training, employment or Starting Up. Our construction sites are 50/50 gender split and our teams have re-generated 16 empty spaces, empty homes, heritage buildings and worked on Wales largest road scheme a £400 million programme. REAL ISSUES * Nearly 1 million young people unemployed * Over 380,000 empty spaces & empty shops in the UK *  Over 220 million tons of waste generated for Landfill * Only 3% of women in manual trades, 5% in engineering and only 2% of female owned businesses in Wales Transforming Spaces: Design Factor Our construction projects transforms empty and unused spaces through working with the community on the planning, design and build. Working with build experts and volunteers from the community it acts like DIY SOS/60 minute makeover. The aim is to up skill young people and members of the community to gain on site experience. If you have an empty space or empty building our team will work with you on the planning, design and rebuild of the space to turn it into a thriving community provision. Training on the site includes: planning, construction, managing budgets, Marketing, enterprise, business and managing the whole project. Our team and the experts will work on site for around one week to re-build the space and encourage volunteers to become involved and progress into training, employment or Starting Up. Helping people to gain vital industry experience to progress their career. The whole process is filmed and broadcast. Our build projects have included Wales First Garden City Café, The Hope Centre-Newport, Blaenau Gwent Community Hub-Waundeg, Empty Shops Project-Cardiff & Newport, State of the Art Cinema Room using Recycled Pallets- Cwmbran Centre for Young People, Penygraig Empty Shop, Newport Heritage Building.
