Our teaching techniques at MAKE are very holistic. All of our students design and make items that they want to create for their level of skill. From basic skirts, curtains, pillows, simple pencil cases through to ultimate fashionista jackets! With my younger teenage fashion students every project is more exciting as its bespoke to them and their vision...just like a mini fashion school. We're just there for you on your journey, enabling you to actually make it! We work with students from concept, learning how to measure, fabric selection through to finally sewing your final project from curtains to clothing. Most of our current students couldn't sew or use a machine before they came to MAKE. After our regular weekly sessions, they now make clothes that they actually want to wear and create curtains or bags that make their friends envious! Anyone can learn to sew, design and make. All you need is a bit of encouragement, patience and a nice cuppa to help you along your way!

Overall they have been supervising (small group- or one-to-one teaching) virtually all courses at the Computer Science department at the University of Cambridge — from abstract mathematics and theory to programming and hardware design — as well as courses in related disciplines, such as Mathematics or Engineering. Undergraduate students (some who have now graduated) have been contributing to the Practice[+] Platform as well as to CSAT question trialling and reviewing. Both courses are designed for students with some previous experience in stained glass or have already either completed a beginners course or attended a workshop. The course will focus on developing ideas and extending technical and artistic skills in design and stained glass execution. Students will be encouraged to experiment and learn how different colours and glass types work together and how to enhance your designs. Tools are included in the cost but materials will be an extra charge for materials. NEW - Beginners Stained Glass Leading – Evening (Mondays) 19th September (6 weeks) to 31st October, 6.30pm - 9pm | £210 materials and tools included NEW - Beginners Stained Glass Leading (Wednesdays) 28th September (5 weeks) to 2nd November, 2pm - 5pm | £210 materials and tools included This Short 5-week (6-week evening) course is designed for newcomers and beginners. Whether you are a complete novice or would like to practice your skills, you will be guided through the steps and skills needed to create a simple stained glass panel using traditional leading techniques. You will be encouraged to experiment and learn how different colours and glass types work together. You will produce a final leaded panel approximately 25cm x 25cm using coloured glass. The course will cover basic panel design, creating cutting template, selecting and cutting from a beautiful range of coloured glass, leading, soldering cementing and finishing techniques. One-Day Workshops An Introduction To The Colourful World Of Traditional Stained Glass One Day Workshop 9.30am – 5pm | Saturday 24th September | £145 This one-day taster course allows you to experience making a piece of traditional stained glass as a 20cm square panel to take home. This is a practical course, you will learn the basic construction process: cutting glass, putting a panel together with a lead, soldering, cementing and finishing. A choice of simple abstract designs will be available, as well as all the materials needed to create your stained glass piece.

The Engineering Biology Interdisciplinary Research Centre provides a hub for anyone interested in Engineering Biology at the University of Cambridge, including researchers, commercial partners and external collaborators. Engineering Biology is an emerging field which applies engineering principles to the design and modification of living systems. The University of Cambridge has been an important and early contributor in this area. The Engineering Biology Interdisciplinary Research Centre was established in 2013 with the support of the Schools of Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences and Technology to bring together related activities across the university and within the community. Academic leadership of the IRC is provided by the Steering Committee, and supported by the IRC Coordinator who works with researchers and external partners to implement IRC activities. The major aims of the IRC are to: Provide a hub of interdisciplinary exchange for all those interested in Synthetic and Engineering Biology at the University of Cambridge, from researchers and students to industrial partners and policy makers. Promote interdisciplinary collaborations across the University through regular events and seed funding competitions. Facilitate funding applications in the field of Synthetic and Engineering Biology Initiate academic-industrial partnerships across the IRC Research Themes. Explore open technologies for innovation, widening participation in novel IP practices and business models for tools related to Synthetic and Engineering Biology. Explore the wider social context of GM technologies at the local and global level, particularly responsible innovation for sustainability and conservation.
