Classes and Workshops. The Tudor Rose Patchwork shop, in Oakley, Beds, houses two fully functioning and self-contained workshops, both of which hold regular classes and one day workshops. If you are travelling to attend one of our workshops and require overnight accommodation we can highly recommend Riverside Lodge located in nearby in Sharnbrook. It is a family run bed and breakfast comprising of two available rooms in the main house and a further seperate room over the garage. Project Ideas and Inspiration. We sell Janome and Pfaff sewing machines and overlockers both online and in-store (only available in the UK). With every sewing machine purchase you get a free hours tuition in store on how to get the most out of your machine as well as a set of in-store vouchers. I was interested in making and designing from a very early age and was intrigued by the intricate cake decorations that a family friend made in sugar. I was, and still am, always building and making things with my father who is an engineer and he repaired and made jewellery, so I had a little knowledge of the techniques he used in his loft studio. I studied art and design at Bath college with an amazing group of inspiring tutors and one of the pieces that I used in my application was a flower made from copper which was my first piece of soldering. When applying to universities I was breath taken by the silverware at the Buckinghamshire University degree show an knew from that point I wanted to work in metal. I gained a BA in Designed Metalwork and Jewellery from Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College where I was taught by an exceptional group of tutors who still influence my work today. This took me to become a fellow of the Bishopsland trust where I developed my range of stainless steel and silver jewellery while on the year residential programme. This was an excellent platform for me to learn all about how to start up a business and how to do craft fairs. Pope and Oliver along with the visiting tutors do an amazing job at this very unique programme.

This service includes our bespoke wedding band service where we are able to supply wedding bands of your choice, made to order in weights ranging from light to heavy and from a wide array of materials. These materials include: yellow, white and rose gold in 9 carat to 22 carat gold, platinum and palladium. Our engraving service, either by hand or machine, can transform your wedding band into a truly stunning piece for your special day. Our skilled and qualified craftsmen have built an enviable reputation over the years for providing a fast, effective service that emphasises quality and reliability in all our repairs and jewellery we create. All this work is completed in our own workshops using state-of-the-art equipment.

Both of us are passionate about Australian quilting, sewing patterns and Cottage Garden hand dyed embroidery threads. We have over 1000 patchwork, quilting and sewing patterns in stock and our range is still growing! We love that some of the Australian quilt and sewing pattern designers also design fabric too. When small, Abigail Jackson made shoes from wallpaper sample books and lashed her brothers’ wooden building blocks onto her feet with string believing herself to be a geisha. In her bedroom she stitched gnomes on hankies and cut off the frills from her maxi dress to make clothes for Pippa the pocket-sized doll. In the kitchen her mum sat her on the draining board, put sellotape across her fringe and cut under it. Abigail Jackson became one of a tiny handful of Daventry punks, who shuffling round town in bondage trousers from Seditionaries and handmade clothes coloured in with biro pens, held together with hundreds of safety pins. In her bedroom she made homemade Sid Vicious badges with pages from the NME and sticky back plastic. Dreamt of being in The Slits and planned never to have a proper job. Abi went to Northampton Art College in the ’80’s to study fashion design and Illustration. Its this foundation of designing and pattern cutting that has coloured her judgment ever since. From opening a clothes shop in Coventry at the age of 19 to opening the studio in her 50’s Its only ever been about creating and making. Abi works as a freelancer so no two jobs are the same. She designs, sews and makes for a living, breathing, all singing, all dancing proper job. In the between times she has work as a freelance wardrobe supervisor traveling extensively and working with some wonderful people. Upon returning home she stitches in her studio, works on community or school projects, plans workshops and collaborates with other creatives in Burns Street Studios.
