A country’s identification system is the backbone for effective delivery of public and private services. Governments are exploring the development of multipurpose foundational ID systems, in which individuals receive a unique identifier from the government that they can use for identity assertion and verification. The foundational ID can then be used to access a wide variety of government and private services. As countries consider how best to build foundational ID systems, they face several policy and technological choices. Once these choices are made, countries often grapple with some common implementation challenges. These include ensuring uniqueness in the system, interoperability, privacy by design reaching scale, avoiding vendor lock-in and maintaining affordability.

In 2018, Dame Tessa Jowell led a call to action on behalf of all brain tumour patients to tackle brain tumours, recognising that too little progress has been made in the treatment of patients with this devastating disease. Lord O’Shaughnessy, the then Undersecretary of State for Health, responded by convening members of the brain tumour community to design a new national strategy. And so, the Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission was formed by a group of passionate academics, doctors, members of professional and patient organisations and patients. Today, the national effort has grown in scale and size. The Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission is now a Community Interest Company which manages and supports a national portfolio of several transformational programmes in the areas of research, trials, training and patients. Our work is funded and supported by the NIHR, The Tessa Jowell Foundation, CRUK, The Minderoo Foundation, The Brain Tumour Charity, Brain Tumour Research, Brainstrust, Brain Tumour Support and Act for Cancer. She makes her jewellery here at Flux Studios, London. Vicky set up Flux Jewellery School to share the skills and knowledge she has gained though her own 30-year career as a jeweller and teacher. In 2010 Vicky was commissioned to write ‘Elemental Jewellery’, an inspirational look at jewellery making. The book includes twenty projects that aim to introduce new approaches to making jewellery, while also exploring ways to develop a free spirited design methodology.
