Wisbech

Blended Monkey was founded by husband and wife team, Simon and Louise Taggart, whose woodturning and pottery studios are based in a small village on the Norfolk/Cambridgeshire border, where the surroundings and changing seasons provide ample inspiration for some of the designs and ideas that can be found in their pieces. "Our Blended Monkey gardens provide ample inspiration for our work, and is the perfect setting for woodturning & pottery courses. Louise (ceramicist) - I studied at the Falmouth School of Art & Design and I am interested in various art forms, design and applied arts. Simon (woodturner) - I have been teaching woodturning for many years and I love working with wood & exploring its versatility." - Louise & Simon They offer half- and full-day 1-2-1 or pairs experiences, including their unique "2 Crafts in 1 Day" workshops where the students gets to explore woodturning in the morning and then pottery in the afternoon.  All workshops include refreshments; the full-day workshops also provide lunch - catering to all requirements and allergies.   Simon and Louise are keen supporters of and fundraisers for the Mind charity, and the past few years have seen Simon and Louise focus their efforts on offering creative therapy workshops to provide rehabilitation and therapy for people of all ages who are suffering with brain trauma, strokes, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. They are also increasingly seeing students who are coping with poor mental health (depression, anxiety, PTSD …) often resulting from stressful jobs which take their toll physically & psychologically. The regular practice of any art or craft is incredibly beneficial in the treatment of those with poor mental health or who are rehabilitating after a brain trauma. Simon and Louise have seen amazing results in some of their students who come to them regularly to create with wood & clay. They work together with care associations, council departments & individuals to tailor their half- or full-day workshops to suit the individual needs of the student. They really enjoy sharing their woodturning and ceramics expertise and their lovely environment to contribute towards the rehabilitation and therapies of people in need.

Breathing Buildings

Soham

Breathing Buildings was formed in 2006 following the development of the proprietary e-stack mixing ventilation system, as part of a major research programme at Cambridge University and MIT, funded by BP. The technology was filed for patent by the University of Cambridge, and Breathing Buildings has exclusive rights to this IP. Since then, we have changed the world of ventilation. The company is now the UK’s leading provider of controlled hybrid and natural ventilation systems. What this means for you We are passionate about everything we do. Our philosophy is to simply to be the best. From the moment a customer has a query about how to ventilate their building, they are supported by a remarkable team of MEng and PhD engineers who help our clients design truly stunning low energy buildings with stimulating environments, superb air quality and thermal comfort. Our consulting engineers work with the design team to discuss the different ventilation options and provide in-depth analysis to ensure our buildings do not overheat. We are the only company in the industry who can provide the whole range of tools to model ventilation in buildings; dynamic thermal modelling, computational fluid dynamics, water-bath modelling, zonal modelling, analytical modelling, and bespoke energy modelling. Once a system is ordered our project engineers liaise with our UK factory to coordinate the delivery of products and control systems to sites across the UK. Our commissioning team then ensures that every system we supply is properly installed, and can be monitored as part of our after-sales service. Innovation We have an ongoing program of product development and our links with the University of Cambridge are very strong. The Breathing Buildings team contributes to the teaching at the university and research into hybrid and natural ventilation. Please see our reference list of background papers and look at our YouTube channel to see various lectures.

Peterborough

Welcome to Greater Peterborough UTC. We are proud to be Peterborough’s first STEM-specialist school, giving young people the chance to follow a unique academic and technical curriculum into higher education or the world of work. Our £25 million campus was opened in September 2016 and has rapidly established itself as one of the highest performing schools in the area. Our campus includes industry-standard workshops and IT design studios, as well as specialist science labs and state of the art digital engineering equipment. Here at GPUTC, we pride ourselves on our ability to secure outstanding destinations for all of our students. Every one of our leavers has successfully enrolled onto courses or started job roles relevant and appropriate to their individual passions and career aspirations. We are the area’s leading educational establishment for the engineers, architects, scientists and designers of the future, specialising in educating the tech-savvy workforce required for the evolving modern world, in fact over 80% of our leavers continue to study or work in STEM. The most exciting element of the GPUTC experience is our employer-shaped, industry-facing curriculum, giving our students the ability to not just gain vital qualifications, but also giving them the chance to develop the skills and behaviours required to be successful in the workplace. Through these unique and diverse links with industry partners, our students are able to explore, connect, evaluate and justify the best solutions to real-world problems whilst also gaining support and advice from some of the region’s most important employers. Choosing to move schools at any age is a leap of faith. I encourage you to explore what we have to offer by attending Open Events (where you can speak to staff and students about their experiences) and take part in our taster sessions (where prospective students can meet our sponsors and take part in engineering and design challenges). Engineers, architects, scientists and designers must be inquisitive and curious if they are to succeed, so I encourage you and your children to ask questions when you visit. Ask any member of staff or student about our ethos and our vision and I’m certain that you will see the passion we have for our school shining through.

Impington Village College

Cambridge

The village college could lie athwart the daily lives of the community it served; and in it the conditions would be realised under which education would not be an escape from reality, but an enrichment and transformation of it. For education is committed to the view that the ideal order and the actual order can ultimately be made one. HENRY MORRIS Impington Village College opened its doors in 1939 within days of the declaration of World War II. It was the fourth Village College to be established in Cambridgeshire by the visionary educationalist Henry Morris, who firmly believed that both formal and informal education should be a lifelong process, a vision that carved an innovative new approach for education. This remains extremely important today as the founding ideas and principles remain embedded within the fabric of Impington Village College, and we aspire to uphold Henry Morris’ vision. Our College is open to the whole community; as well as an excellent education for students from Years 7 to 13, we offer a variety of adult education courses and workshops. The foundation of Impington Village College was made possible through the foresight and generosity of the Chivers family, who donated land, support and finance. The original building was designed by Walter Gropius, founder of The Bauhaus School of Architecture, and his partner Maxwell Fry. The iconic design was a radical departure from the taut educational establishments of the Victorian era, and introduced many innovations that had not been seen before. The original construction, which is now Grade 1 Listed, still stands at the heart of the College and continues to attract visitors from all over the world.
