The LSSM started the first ever Sports Massage course in September 1989. Set up and taught by Mel Cash, this was based on the first ever book on Sports Massage that he wrote the year before. We were also the first massage school to be externally validated by BTEC (the main Government-backed awarding body in the UK). Ours is a ‘Customised Qualification’ which we design ourselves and operate in the way we believe is best. BTEC then independently assess this and they approved our first Sports Massage qualification with a Level 4 standard. BTEC annually carry out a thorough audit of our whole operation to ensure we maintain the high standard and quality of our training. We have carefully designed our course to meet the needs of mature (non-school leaver) students looking for a new career which is why we run part-time courses at weekend spread over a longer period of time. The weekend classes are devoted mostly to teaching hands-on practical skills which can only be learned properly in a classroom along with other students and experienced tutors. The underpinning theory is now taught online so students can fit this in with their lives better. But LSSM has always been more than just a school, we are also the pioneer of a new sector of modern healthcare. We are led by Mel and his close team of tutors who are all dedicated hands-on therapists that have constantly strived to better meet the needs of their clients. Developing from their Sports Massage roots they acquired higher skills in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of people suffering with pain and injury. This has also given them a much wider scope of practice and made it a much more stimulating and rewarding life-time career. Over the years we have integrated these new clinically proven skills into our training and our BTEC qualification is now Level 5, called Soft Tissue Therapy and takes about one-year. It still includes Sports Massage but is now much more focused treating musculoskeletal pain and injury with people from all walks of life. Our main training centre is in central London, at Regent’s University premises inside Regent’s Park, and we have another branch at Totton College near Southampton. Welcome to Prendergast School. It is an honour and a privilege to be Prendergast School’s eleventh Headteacher and to work with staff, students and families. Staff here are passionate about ensuring the very best opportunities and education for all students. Our motto and ethos is ‘Truth, Honour, Freedom and Courtesy.’ We are all on the same side, working to support all students to excel. We take pride in building strong relationships with students and their families. We have a long history of providing exceptional education to young people. We were founded in 1880 as Prendergast Grammar School for Girls on a site in Catford provided by the Leathersellers’ Company, which then funded the school’s move to its current site in 1995. We are now part of the Leathersellers’ Federation of schools, a group of three secondary and two primary schools as well as Prendergast 6th Form. We are very fortunate to be part of the Federation and receive a lot of support from the Leathersellers’ Company, that helps our students succeed. We are very proud of our last Ofsted judgement of Outstanding in all areas, our third Outstanding judgement in a row. We are described in the most recent report as ‘exceptional’ and having ‘exemplary attitudes to learning’ across the school. We do achieve great academic results at Prendergast School (more information is on the website). However, as a parent or carer you also want to know that your child is happy and safe. This is very important to us and we pride ourselves that students feel confident in school and thrive under our care. It is important that when students leave after their time with us that they do so as well-rounded individuals who have had many different experiences, able to overcome challenges and most importantly to learn from their mistakes. It is important that students get involved in school life as much as possible. We have a wide range of extra-curricular activities and we do encourage all students to get involved. We expect all students to attend school journeys. Communication is very important to us. We always like to know what we do well and what we can improve on further. Organisation and Relationship Systems Coaching (ORSC™) is an innovative and powerful coaching model based on Relationship Systems Intelligence (RSI™). A ‘relationship system’ is any interdependent group of people, sharing a common identity or function. We are all part of many different systems. In our organisations, our teams, our families, our intimate relationships and the wider society. Everything is interconnected. If something changes in one area of a system, it will have effects in places that often we won’t expect. ORSC is a methodology that combines ‘systems thinking’ with coaching. By becoming an ORSC practitioner, you will become aware of your own impact on the bigger picture and be able to consciously design your relationships. You will learn an invaluable set of tools to coach others to do the same. The Five Modules of ORSC All ORSC journeys begin with either the Fundamentals or ORS@Work module. Both introductory courses are based on the same set of skills and principles. Fundamentals is geared more toward personal coaching, therapy, or social work applications. ORS@Work is designed specifically with HR, OD, LD, business coaching or consulting in mind. Fundamentals or ORS@Work— teaches five key ORSC tools, including how to coach the Third Entity. Intelligence— provides a robust toolkit for increasing emotional resilience in the face of change. Geography — explores how to recognise and nurture the structures of relationships. Path — explores how to create a shared vision and a strategic plan for achieving it. Systems Integration— brings all the pieces together and provides a learning space to hone skills to work towards mastery. The subsequent four courses in the series must be studied in sequential order, as content layers and builds with each module. On completion of the five modules, students may choose to pursue ORSC certification. Whatever work we do, we are always in relationship. Through ORSC training we learn the concepts, skills and tools to be more effective with others. A ‘relationship system’ is any interdependent group of people, sharing a common identity or function. Psychologists might refer to a ‘collective consciousness’. Business consultants might talk about a ‘corporate culture’. Therapists would likely address ‘family dynamics’. All are ways of referring to what we call the Third Entity.
