This is a gateway course for all further learning in FD&FA systems.

The LAA operates a strict compliance regime when it comes to auditing family controlled work matters, and mistakes can often result in a Contract Notice, corrective action, and further follow-up activity within 6 months. This course will discuss the various aspects of family controlled work billing, with discussions on topics such as how to bill private law, public law, and help with mediation matters; how to evidence whether substantive negotiations and a settlement have taken place in private law matters; how do the LAA audit travel and other disbursement claims; what evidence must be present on files to avoid any issues on audit – including scope, gateway evidence, and forms/evidence of means (rules on evidence of means will be included in brief, however, a separate, more in-depth Civil Means Assessment Guidance Course is available); and the rules on claiming separate matters and escape fees. Key aspects of the Civil Contract and associated LAA Guidance (including the Codes Guidance) will be included, along with a discussion of common errors that are made. Target Audience This online course is aimed at anyone involved in billing Family Controlled Work matters or managing an LAA Family Contract. Resources Course notes will be provided to all delegates which may be useful for ongoing reference or cascade training. Please note a recording of the course will not be made available. Speaker Steve Keeling, Consultant, DG Legal Steve joined DG Legal after leaving the Legal Aid Agency in August 2016. In his 17 years at the LAA, he worked in the audit team as both auditor and manager and was a Contract Manager for several years. Steve is also a certified SQM auditor and undertakes audits on behalf of Recognising Excellence as well as running training sessions for the SQM Audit Team periodically.

This course meets and exceeds the Maryland requirement for the security officer course of 12 hours. The course is taught over 2 days, 6 hours per day for the day course or 3 days, 4 hours per day for the night course. In this course, you will learn the required curriculum for security officers prescribed by the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission. What is the AM2 assessment? The AM2 assessment is an industry recognised trade test designed to evidence that candidates have gained all relevant and safety-critical competencies during their training process. It provides a single standard that has been agreed upon by employers within the electrical industry, giving a reliable and trusted guarantee of safe, high-quality skills for the electrotechnical industry. Who is this for? This is aimed at apprentices who are coming to the end of their training for the JIB apprentice training scheme and the Installation of modern apprenticeships. This course is also for experienced electricians, specifically those who are looking at taking the experienced worker route (AM2E.) There are a range of assessments for candidates based on their level: AM2 – This is for candidates undertaking the JIB mature candidate assessments and those following the level three NVQ who isn’t an apprentice. AM2S – This is for electrotechnical apprentices who are training against the apprenticeship standard AM2E – This is for experienced workers who are completing the experienced worker assessment. Please note: this can only be taken once you have gained the experienced worker qualification, proof must be provided before booking the AM2 assessment. What does this assessment consist of? Overall, the AM2 is an in-depth assessment carrying out tasks to show what you have learnt on your training. It is a practical assessment with five sections (six for AM2E and AM2S) and a short online component. Candidates will be expected to install, connect, terminate, inspect, test, commission and diagnose faults, following installation specifications provided and any relevant statutory and non-statutory regulations on: A three-phase distribution board and subcircuit A central heating/sustainable energy system Lighting and power circuits A data cabling system A safety services circuit and device Installation of containment systems (AM2E and AM2S only) Candidates will complete timed tasks in equipped areas that contain typical electrical installation wiring systems – all work must comply with BS7671 Wiring Regulations, industry best practice, and meet the requirements of relevant health and safety legislation. The assessment will be carried out in strict exam conditions across 2.5 days. Do I need an AM2 certificate to work as an electrician? Apprentices must pass their AM2 test in their final year to complete their apprenticeship. Also, if the apprenticeship standard is not being followed, an AM2 certificate and a level three NVQ is required to gain a gold card. If you are already working as an electrician, you will not need an AM2 certificate. If you are training to be an electrician and are registering for your NVQ level three in Electrical Installation or Maintenance, the electrotechnical diploma now includes the AM2. The AM2 certification is an industry recognised and something that many employers will actively seek when hiring new staff. It can also be attractive to potential customers.

Our Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) refresher training courses, available both online and in-person, are designed for managers and individuals in positions of authority who completed their original SMSTS training program less than three years ago. Aims Participants will undertake a concise yet equally engaging training program covering all essential aspects of enforcing health and safety codes of practice at construction sites. Topics include in-depth discussions on risk assessments and effective methods for monitoring and managing industry-specific hazards. Instructions For online courses labeled “Remote Learning,” a tutor will deliver the training via video call. All SMSTS courses are delivered and assessed in English. The RQF examination allows learners to demonstrate knowledge of BS 5839-1: 2017 as part of competence in the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of FD&FA systems.

This City & Guilds one day training course will allow service engineers to meet the industry standards requirements for service and maintenance of refrigeration systems containing flammable refrigerants (A3 & A2L) including R290 and R600a. It will provide you with the skills and knowledge to safely handle hydrocarbon refrigerants during installation, service, maintenance and disposal. It is also suitable for engineers working with flammable HFO’s and HFC’s including R1234yf, R1234ze and R32. LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION Siân Ellis-Martin joined Blake Friedmann in 2018 and is building a list of fiction and non-fiction at the agency.  With regards to fiction, Siân is looking for commercial, upmarket and accessible literary novels. She always wants to be completely absorbed by the world of the novel, to jump into the character’s life and be swept into the narrative as if she’s been there all along. She’s drawn in by compelling characters and relationships, and loves stories with a mystery or question at the heart of them. She’s open to these ideas being explored in a variety of ways, but at the moment, she’d particularly like to find an epic love story, a fun, queer rom-com with an unusual setting or pitch, and/or a sweeping family saga. Siân leans more towards contemporary settings but does enjoy a historical backdrop too. In non-fiction, she’s looking for narrative non-fiction, history from different perspectives and books that make complicated ideas around things like politics and literature more accessible. Her favourite type of non-fiction book is the one that makes you interested in something or someone you’d never thought you would be. Siân would also love to find cookery and food books too, particularly cuisines that are less visible in the book world, or budget cooking. She’s not currently taking on YA, children’s, fantasy or science fiction projects.
