Over the last 12 years, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed teaching Pilates to many people of all ages and abilities, and with varying muscle and joint problems, back issues and health conditions. I started my complementary healthcare training 19 years ago, qualifying in 2002 with a diploma from the London School of Sports Massage. I returned to my home city of Edinburgh that year, successfully building up a client base and running the complementary healthcare clinic Happy Being for 12 years in the west end, until 2020. Back in 2009, I decided to train as a Pilates teacher and qualified with a certificate in mat Pilates teaching Level 3 CYQ (Central YMCA Qualifications). This came from a desire to help my massage clients develop the tools to care for their own bodies rather than relying on regular massage treatments and doing their own exercises between sessions with varying results. The two disciplines successfully ran side by side, with many people coming to the clinic for both massage treatments and Pilates classes. In 2016 I developed my physiological and anatomical knowledge and practical skills further by achieving an advanced remedial massage diploma from the Scottish School of Sports Massage. I apply the knowledge I gained through this training to my Pilates teaching, drawing on a deeper understanding of the human body and how it works. I am constantly developing ideas, combining my vision with a structured modern approach. I’ve worked with many clients with varying levels of fitness and health conditions, from athletes to those with chronic fatigue syndrome CFS/ ME. I start with the 8 fundamental principles of the Pilates Method and the many Pilates movements to bring about new ideas. These are often from varying disciplines which I’ve studied and practised over the years such as Qigong, Tai Chi and even meditation with breath work. Many of the balance, warm-up stretches and cool-down movements in the classes are Qigong-based.

Beulah is an outward looking church, interested in Rhiwbina and concerned about the wider world. We describe our style of church life as liberal but lively encouraging participation in worship in which we mix traditional hymnody and new music from the world church. We encourage a thoughtful faith, questioning and exploring together what we understand the Bible and faith means today. We have adopted a range of worship patterns. Our main service is Family Worship on a Sunday morning. This gathers all ages together, there is a Junior Church catering for all ages and we have a crèche. The service lasts an hour and a quarter or so and there is coffee after the service. In addition to the service on a Sunday there is one other mid-week service. Meeting Point is primarily a gathering where we share readings for the week and pastoral news. Beulah Church affirms that Christ welcomed all into his company without exception. He did not judge who people were, though he challenged how people behaved towards each other. We believe God calls all kinds of people to work and witness in his name and we want all to feel welcome and included in all aspects of Beulah’s life and leadership. We acknowledge that we have not always lived up to Christ’s standard of warmth and welcome. But, we testify that when his Spirit is at work amongst us we are a people offering care and compassion to all-comers. In 2018 six URC congregations agreed to form The Cardiff and Penarth United Reformed Church Pastorate. After 11 years of being a nurse in women’s services, Krystal decided she wanted to have a closer interaction with the community and earned a Master of Science in Nursing and became a nurse practitioner at Memorial Hermann Health System. It was after one year of working as a Family Nurse Practitioner she decided that she wanted to take a step further and started teaching as a professor at Chamberlain University. She was then trained by a board-certified plastic surgeon and learned aesthetics. Medical Aesthetics Education was developed after she encountered so many healthcare professionals struggling to get into the industry. She wanted to bridge the gap with her knowledge and injecting expertise. Also, she wanted to empower new injectors to get better at their skill with a mentorship program, which is not offered after most training courses. Krystal enjoys working as a nurse practitioner injector and training others to become the best. She is a perfectionist when it comes to her clients getting the best results. She considers her skills a form of artistry to enhance natural beauty. Krystal states that the biggest advantage of her role is the instant gratification, she takes pride in the boost of confidence that her clients receive. Recently, she has successfully launched her own full-scale spa, Lush RX, located in the Greater Area of Houston, Texas. She is excited to share her knowledge and help others become their best selves and possible entrepreneurs.

irish red cross first aid training

A century and a half ago, an ambitious idea became reality with the establishment of the ICRC and relief Societies, known today as National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The Red Cross Movement, with 97 million members worldwide, is the largest humanitarian aid organisation in the world today. It was founded by Swiss business man Henri Dunant following the battle of Solferino in northern Italy in 1859, which saw over 40,000 people killed or wounded. Horrified by the anguished cries of the war-wounded left to suffer and die on the battlefield (many of whom pleaded for the coup de grace), Dunant organised help from the nearest village, Solferino. The wounded, from both sides, were ferried to makeshift hospitals in local homes and barns. Dunant returned to Geneva where he penned his account of the battle in "A Memory of Solferino", urging people to set up voluntary relief societies to deal with the hardship of war. His book led to the foundation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). This organisation was established by Dunant and four Geneva businessmen in 1863. The following year, the first Geneva Convention for the alleviation of the conditions of the wounded in armies in the field was adopted, together with the emblem of the Red Cross on a white background. The principles and aims of the ICRC were replicated in National Societies around the world with members trained in First Aid and emergency care. It was decided that the ICRC should continue to be run by Swiss nationals. After World War I it was decided that National Societies should form their own umbrella group also based in Geneva - this was known as the League of Red Cross Societies but today is called the Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The Irish Red Cross Society is a member of the IFRC which has 192 member societies around the world.
