Newbattle High School

newbattle high school

Welcome to our website where I hope that you enjoy it and find what you are looking for. I am honoured and privileged to be the Head Teacher of Newbattle High School. I am proud to be leading such a great school where our vision and values are centred on supporting all young people to exceed beyond their potential. This is reflected in our school motto “Challenge” and our hashtag “AIMHIGHER”. The school’s ethos is ambitious, inclusive and supportive. Based within our Community Campus, working together for better outcomes is a priority and I see this every day in action where we know, and are proud of, our students. We are well supported by our parents/carers, community and partners both in and outside of school. A few aspects of our vision which sets us apart. All students are strongly encouraged to stay on until the end of S6 with correct courses to suit every young adult. These range from Advanced Higher, Work Based Learning, College Delivery onsite, Wider SCQF courses etc. We have an overwhelmingly nurturing ethos here where every student counts. This can be seen through our extensive and unique pastoral structure staffed with our Mental Wellbeing Nurse, Teacher of Wellbeing, Nurture staff, Outreach Teacher, Pupil Care and Welfare Officers and our fully funded Positive Learning. These important roles complement our House and Support for Learning teams. We are a Centre of Excellence Digitally with resources, partners, learning pedagogy etc to ensure that our pupils are advantaged digitally. We have learner pathways for career, College or University and have engaged Higher Education (Edinburgh University being a pivotal partner), Further Education (Edinburgh College being a pivotal partner) and Businesses as partners in the totality of our curriculum and school.

Linda Farquharson is a relief printmaker (Linocut) based in Highland Perthshire creating linocuts and wood engravings. Her work is infused with the outdoor world and inspiration is never far from her back door.Linda studied Illustration at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, graduating B A (Hons) in 1986. She specialised in relief printmaking and continues to work primarily with lino printing and wood engraving. For many years she worked as a commercial artist based in Edinburgh, while also exhibiting her prints nationally. Commissions include W B Yeats’ Irish Fairy and Folk Tales (for The Folio Society 2007) and Sir Walter Scott’s The Lady of The Lake (for The Association for Scottish Literary Studies 2010). Now based in Highland Perthshire, her work remains infused with the outdoor world and inspiration is never very far from her back door. Among Linda’s most recent work is a series of linocut prints that include ‘The Tree of Life’, ‘Song of the Goddess’, ‘Nine maidens’, and ‘Earth Goddess’. These bold prints incorporate some of Linda’s favourite images – trees, flowers, animals and birds together with the female form, and her current preoccupation with Goddess mythology. Drawing on stories from the Welsh Mabinogion alongside the legendary Scottish ‘Cailleach’ (expressions of the different phases of womanhood from maiden to crone) these themes allude to tales of transformation and the point where humans and nature merge, bringing a powerful new dimension to her work.

Intensive driving packages or "Crash Courses" are an accelarated lesson schedule designed to get you driving as quickly as possible they take place in and around Edinburgh, Currie. They are usually based on 2-3 hours a day between 0900 and 1630 over one or two weeks but i can be flexible (evening intensives are not available unfortunately). If you are unsure this might help you decide. Should I Do An Intensive/Crash Driving Course? The following are guidelines only and an assessment drive is recommended. 40 hour Semi/Intensive driving course is for the novice driver or learner at the early stages of driving. You have to be a quick learner with an aptitude for practical skills to be ready for your test at the end of this course when approaching it from a complete beginner. 30 hour semi/intensive driving course is for the learner that knows the controls and understands all basic junctions and has had between 10-20 lessons. This may suit someone who has had a gap in their lessons for 6 to 12 months 20 hour semi/intensive driving course is more suited to learners who achieved test or very close to test standard and had a break from driving for between 1 to 5 years. Or for confident learners who have had continuous lessons over a prolonged period but feel they would like to get to test standard quickly. 10 hour semi/intensive course is more for drivers who have taken professional driving lessons but failed their driving test, on a few minor things but haven't driven for up to 12 months or for learners who have achieved test standard but had a break from driving for up to 6 months. This course may also suit confident experienced drivers holding an international licence who have mastered all junctions and most maneuvers but need coaching on the driving test format and some of the UK driving rules.
