Bettering Youth: Tutoring and Exam Coaching

bettering youth: tutoring and exam coaching

Hi! I’m Sarahlynn Hodder, the founder of Bettering Youth I'm so pleased that you’re here to find out more about our passion to support children on their academic and emotional learning journeys, whether that be at home or in schools. Bettering Youth is an Ascot-based tuition company, and we’re on a mission to help children excel both in the classroom and beyond! I created Bettering Youth back in 2017. Over the years we have established ourselves as the only tutoring service that focuses on emotional and mental wellbeing of children. Our unique approach sets us apart and establishes us as leading tutoring providers and mental wellbeing coaches. We work with families in the following capacities: preparing for 11+ exams, studying for common entrance exams study skills and tutoring for GCSE exams building confidence in Maths, supporting reluctant readers, inspiring hesitant creative writers creating full academic learning journeys for home educating families coaching children one-to-one on emotional issues (anger, anxiety, OCD, body image) Both myself and the team of highly experienced tutors are profoundly passionate about teaching children: not only academically but emotionally as well. We’re all experienced teachers who are dedicated to supporting our students’ welfare above and beyond the academic requirements. As educators, our role is never simply to teach the curriculum; our goal is always to support the development of our amazing young people who all have emotions and worries, the same as you and me. Whether you work directly with me or one of my hand-picked team, rest assured that you’ll always receive the same Bettering Youth quality and value. All tutors undergo a rigorous selection process, hold an emotional wellbeing certification, and undertake a monthly workshop to ensure we're all presenting high-quality academic and pastoral care to support your child to thrive.

Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust

Perth,

Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust (PKHT) is a registered Scottish Charity that has been established since 1988. Our Vision A Perth and Kinross that values, embraces and enhances the economic, social and environmental benefits of its historic environment We realise this vision through the development and delivery of projects, the administration of grants, the provision of information and advice, and a programme of outreach, learning and training activities. Working independently and collaboratively to preserve, enhance and increase understanding of Perth and Kinross’s historic environment Since 1988 the Trust has been achieving a wide remit encompassing historic building conservation, archaeology, access to the historic environment and interpretation. Supported by Heritage Lottery Fund Transition funding, the Trust began an organisational review in 2016 which culminated in our 2017-22 strategic plan. This document sets out our vision, values and priorities and has recently been updated with a Covid-19 response statement for 2021-22 and a further strategic plan for the 2023-2027 period. Our emphasis has always been, and continues to be, on a high quality approach, bringing economic, social and educational benefit while securing a future for Perth and Kinross’s historic environment. We realise our vision, mission and objectives through the development and delivery of projects, the administration of grants, the provision of information and advice, and a programme of outreach, learning and training activities. Conserving our shared cultural heritage is important for many reasons: maintaining ‘sense of place’, providing a resource for learning and education for local communities, and as a driver for sustainable economic development through events and destinations for visitors and tourists. We believe the rich physical heritage of Perth and Kinross, in the form of archaeological remains and historic buildings and landscapes, should be enjoyed by everyone, and we aim to facilitate this through our projects and outreach events. We are committed to developing and delivering activities and projects that increase awareness, understanding and appreciation of the historic environment. Supported by a range of funders, our outreach, learning and participation activities are often delivered as a core part of larger funded projects such as the King’s Seat Hillfort Archaeology Project. Outside of these projects, we also co-ordinate annual feature event programmes such as Doors Open Days. Please explore our website to find out more about what we do and why we do it. PKHT is a Scottish Charity (SC003139) and a company, limited by guarantee. View a copy our Memorandum and Articles of Association to find out more about our objects and governance.

Stewarton

My name is Heather Dugdale and I am a local lass who has always loved animals, especially dogs and horses.  My Grandfather had a small holding in Kilwinning where he bred Clydesdales and Springer Spaniels,  so I think it’s definitely in the genes.  After many years of working with the Council as an IT Technician I decided to start studying dog behaviour and science based training in the hope that I could become a Dog Trainer when I retired, lucky enough for me I was given the opportunity to take early release (sounds like a prison sentence!) and follow my passion . In 2017 I gained an Ofqual recognised level 4 Diploma in Canine Behaviour Management and Training from Animal Jobs Direct,  and passed an Animal Behaviour and Welfare course from the University of Edinburgh,  successfully completed a Dog Emotion and Cognition course with Duke University and  went on to assist a fully qualified Kennel Club Instructor with her Canis Dog Training Classes which where invaluable,  and gave me the hands on experience I needed to start my own classes. I continued my education and became a member and accredited trainer with the IMDT , having passed my exam with a distinction in 2021.  I gained membership of the APDT in June 2023, which is a highly valued organisation in the Professional Dog Training Industry,  and with this rigorous exam came the opportunity to be listed on the ABTC register, which is a Council that sets and maintains standards of knowledge and practical skills needed to be an animal trainer, training instructor or animal behaviour therapist and is used by shelters and vets.    At present I am also a member of the Kennel Club,  and my club is listed for the Good Citizen Award Scheme, which is probably the most well-known training scheme in the world,  but you don't need to sit any exams,  just have fun training and if you change your mind as you become more confident,  why not go for it!  so if you would like to find out more then please visit  https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/training/good-citizen-dog-training-scheme/ [https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/training/good-citizen-dog-training-scheme/] . I also provide 1-2-1 training for those people who need to set their own timetable. In the near future I hope to become a Kennel Club Accredited Instructor for both Companion Dog Training, assistance dogs, and the Good Citizen Award scheme,  this kitemark of quality and excellence is also highly valued in the Dog Training Industry.   In the distant future, I hope to become a fully qualified behaviorist and add this to my list of services.    I think training should be fun, and I believe happy dogs make for happy owners, and that’s why I chose the name Heathers Happy Hounds.  So come and have some fun!

The Breath Works

the breath works

Stone Cross

I discovered Breathwork a few years ago and I’ve never looked back. After giving birth to each of my two children I suffered from postnatal depression. The first time I took antidepressants. After having my daughter, with the help of a friend who’s a nutritionist, I started supporting my mind and body through what I ate. I began to realise that everything we put into our bodies has a direct impact not only on our health but also on how we feel. Some years later I was introduced to transcendental meditation and I have been practising it ever since. It heightens my awareness of what matters and gives me a greater sense of peace and happiness. Soon after this I heard about a Breathwork workshop in London. It wasn’t something I knew anything about but I wanted to find out more. I was totally unprepared for such a mind-blowing experience, bowled over by how an hour’s guided breathing could evoke such feelings and sensations in my body. Even then I didn’t really understand the impact that a regular practice could have on one’s physical and mental wellbeing over time. But I did feel a real connection with Breathwork and I was curious to find out more. Within the week I had signed up to the training and mentorship programme. Now, after over fifty hours of case studies, several retreats diving deep into my own Breathwork, and a commitment to a daily practice, I am a qualified Breathwork coach. I can see subtle yet life-changing differences, and friends and family have also noticed the transformation in me, particularly in stressful situations. I’m much more in tune with my intuition; I have a deeper sense of calm and contentment, greater clarity and less unhelpful chatter. From being someone who fell into everything in life, Breathwork has given me clarity, focus and direction. Instead of reaching for my morning coffee, my Breathwork practice and meditation clear my head and set me up for the day. I feel passionately that everyone should have this amazing tool available, to help them process and manage life’s daily stresses, and even unravel past traumas. If you are interested in experiencing the benefits of Breathwork, I am running workshops and 1:1 sessions out of Hove, near Brighton.
