A few words about us at Cyber Benab. We are an online meeting place which aims to increase awareness of cybersecurity through online events, such as weekend bootcamps and intensive training courses. About us Our mission at Cyber Benab is to develop a community of cybersecurity aware enthusiasts and experts with the knowledge to defend critical data and infrastructure for individuals, businesses and government. Dr. Fraser, our Operations Director has developed cybersecurity and computer systems administration training courses for both private sector organisations, such as the Flatiron School in New York, and outreach courses for disadvantaged groups, including retraining for programmes for immigrant engineers at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. More recently, he has contributed to cybersecurity workshops as part of Vaugh’s College CSTEP programme which aims to increase access by minority and economically disadvantaged students to academic programs at the college level in scientific and technical fields. Cyber Benab is one of 108 UK security startup companies nominated to take part in the 2021 Cyber Runway accelerator programme which is sponsored by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). During 2022, Cyber Benab in collaboration with the Digital Policy Alliance and local outreach groups will play a leading role in delivery cybersecurity training to disadvantage groups in the UK starting with the London Borough of Lambeth. In recent years, digitisation has exploded in every aspect of the global economy. Who are we? We are Revved Up. We provide paid work experience for young people from L8 and the surrounding areas to prevent them from being involved in serious organised crime. What do we do? Young, disadvantaged people who are at risk are given opportunities to recruit for and co-facilitate youth projects, events and community consultations. During their time with us, young people are given the opportunity to join our list of members, contribute to/learn the operations/ day-to-day running of our community business, they are all also given personal development programmes, 1:1 coaching and mentoring, social prescribing and business start-up advice. We have regular staff trips and excursions to come up with ideas and celebrate recent successes, these are all chosen by the young people. Our community business originates from another organisation called This Is My Story Limited (TIMS). Over 5 years ago TIMS was founded by Phillip Taylor (1957-2021) Adam Taylor, Sophie Middleman, Mike Hobbs and Deborah Fitzsimmons. The purpose of this organisation was to work with disadvantaged young people involved in crime, drug activity, addiction and those who had severe mental health problems. Adam and his family have spent most of their lives in Toxteth L8 Liverpool and it is one of the most disadvantaged areas in the country. The majority of the work that TIMS did was in Toxteth working with young people (all of whom were referred by word of mouth) that needed help in one of these areas. When TIMS was 2 years old, our founder (Adam Taylor) noticed that the young people he was working with through TIMS expressed a desire to follow in his footsteps and decided to try and make that happen, that is when he started Revved Up Limited.

Our 5 Year Plan provides us with a framework which helps inform our decision making around effort and investment, and has been developed in partnership with our Advisory Board and wider sector partners to reflect the key challenges that increased levels of physical activity can contribute and support to improve the health and wellbeing of our communities. Tackling inequalities in participation in sport and physical activity is at the heart of the Plan, and aligns with the ambitions of Sport England’s 10 Year Strategy ‘Uniting the Movement’ which can be viewed here. Active Cumbria is governed by an independent Advisory Board, made up of highly skilled individuals from a range of backgrounds. Gavin started in the fitness industry as a PTI ( Physical Training Instructor ) in the Army in 2000. With three years experience working as a PTI in the Army Gavin decided to further his career in civilian street back home in Manchester. Gavin qualified as a Personal Trainer and Sports Therapist obtaining a Premier Diploma in 2003. Over the past eleven years as well as Personal Training, Gavin has been working as a Fitness Manager and Operations Manger for a large health club, and later major national fitness organisation. Whilst developing his managerial skills Gavin has been Personal Training and instructing military fitness classes to large groups in local parks.
