Get Creative with Clay Beginner or Intermediate Make and Decorate a Bowl This friendly, relaxed, workshop takes place in a peaceful studio in the Kingsgate Workshops Trust building. This taster type clay session is a great way to get away from the busy world outside for a few hours. By the end of this session you will have completed a bowl using the coiling method. This session can be treated as a one off or something you can repeat. If the course is booked with a friend or as a group there is a reduction in price. Please negotiate group reductions via email. When making your bowl you will also have a finished surface that you can decorate in a variety of ways applying any design or you can leave it blank or write an inscription onto its surface. A decorated bowl is an excellent celebratory gift to give to a friend or a relative. Or you can use it yourself! You will be guided through making a bowl using the coiling technique by joining, then pinching out ropes of soft clay. The clay wall is then pared to obtain a satisfying curve, that can be scratch decorated or slip painted on the same day with your personal design. You will have guidance each step along the way. When you have made your bowl it will be glazed for you.. Best workshop ever! Ceramics: 1-1 Intensive Throwing Lessons / Beginner /Intermediate By Tyler - April 2016 As a first timer was fairly nervous and there's only so much research you can do. Josie was patient, knowledgeable and helpful - I felt very at ease and I learnt A LOT. The workshop was very informative I was provided with information sheets of all of the process's I requested and if it wasn't at hand Josie will research for you to answer all of your questions and provide you with as much help as possible. Really good price for everything you get as well which is all of your materials and some of the best teaching I've experienced. Very thorough explanations and demonstrations with clear instructions, personally I feel its important to have a 1:1 class as well if you want a more intensive learning experience. For myself I felt I need to be guided through the process with constant observation to receive help as you go and then learn from your mistakes much faster. Josie helped me with my current university project, she is a truly a great potter with a great passion for passing on the knowledge, I can't thank her enough.

I have had an interest in Art for most of my adult life and having never studied it at school I was nervous of taking up any classes so late in life. However, by chance whilst trying to find local art classes I happened to stumble upon Back Room Art and I sent an enquiring email. From the very first communication Heather put me immediately at ease and gave me the confidence to go to my first class. I joined a wonderful group of people. Heather works well to ensure we are all included in the lessons, working at our own pace and with projects and materials we feel comfortable to use. Heather’s inspiration, openness and motivation have given me a confidence in doing something I never felt capable of doing. Our works are encouraged and praised and Heather’s communication with everyone is brilliant to ensure we all get something out of it. She listens carefully to our aspirations and helps us to achieve them with advice, suggestions and with realistic goals. The facilities we work in are relaxed, friendly and well stocked with all the artistic materials you could wish for, giving me a chance to use resources I would not generally have tried out at home on my own. Coming to this class has given me so much more than just the opportunity to create art; it has opened my eyes to art I would not normally have looked for, expanding my horizons and opportunities. It is the one thing on a Monday that I do look forward to." Becky Hi, I’m Becky, the Principal here at The Dance Zone. I began dancing at the age of 4, learning Freestyle, Ballroom and Latin American. At the age of 14 I became a Student Teacher and fell in love with teaching. I enjoy studying the theory side of dance and went on to take the Associate Teacher qualification in both Ballroom and Latin American with the IDTA; and Ballroom with the ISTD. I now have the pleasure of passing this knowledge on to any of our student teachers who wish to train to become qualified dance teachers and fulfil their own dance dreams. Quite some time ago, I discovered a love of authentic Street dance and still enjoy attending classes in this discipline. Over the years I have achieved qualifications to teach Zumba, Zumba Toning and Mash It Up Fitness, all great and fun exercise programs. I have had the pleasure of partnering students at competitions in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom, something I will never forget. I do not have a favourite style, I just love to dance; even my holiday every year is at a dance convention! Yes, dance is my passion, but it’s more than that, it’s who I am. Amy Amy Hi, I’m Amy, and I’ve been dancing at The Dance Zone since it opened in 2011 but have been dancing for 13 years. I have been a student teacher since 2017, I also take lessons in Tap dancing elsewhere. I have loved growing up and spending time with the other amazing student teachers and getting to know all the kids. Going to dance just provides me with a good opportunity to have fun and learn something new at the same time. Beth Beth Hi, I’m Beth, and I have been dancing since I was 3 years old. I started off doing ballet then moved to The Dance Zone at the age of 6. Dance was always something that I have loved so it’s amazing I have been able to continue dancing my whole life. I competed in several competition as part of a Street dance crew. I have taught dance since I was 12, I love being able to share my passion with the kids and being able to teach and dance with them. It’s rewarding to see the kids perform knowing that you helped to lead and encourage them. My favourite style of dance is street as it’s fun and allows for you to add your own style to routines. I have grown up with The Dance Zone and had the opportunity to be taught by and dance with amazing people and have amazing memories.

I’m Matthew and I’ve been helping my students succeed at school and university since 1992, including over 13,000 hours of one-to-one tuition to over 400 students. My philosophy is: more than higher grades. I teach A level Maths and Further Maths, A level Statistics, and A level Physics. At GCSE level I have worked very successfully with students aiming for a grade 6 and above. I also help undergraduates on courses with mathematical content, such as Economics and Business Studies. My focus is on achieving high grades through understanding the material. I tailor my approach depending on individual needs and interests and I believe in making the subject as simple and enjoyable as possible. I am enthusiastic, friendly and approachable. I really want my students to succeed and I’m very happy to be contacted for help outside of their lesson time. I was recently invited by Talksport Radio to be their “maths expert” to speak on the topic of coin tossing, in the context of determining who bats first in a cricket match. To that end I take a very full interest in their education generally. As one student recently put it, I am “so much more than just a maths tutor”. For example I give guidance and support with university entrance, including the UCAS personal statement, applying to Oxford and Cambridge, and interview preparation, and I have personal experience of working in both the legal and accounting professions. ACADEMIC HISTORY + TEACHING EXPERIENCE I have an outstanding academic record and over twenty-five years experience as a teacher and examiner, during which I’ve received excellent feedback from my students and their parents. I have tutored over 400 students in Harrogate: that’s over 13,000 hours of one-to-one teaching since I started tutoring in 2006. In Japanese, Ippo Ippo is written as 一歩一歩。 一 is the Japanese character for 'one'. 歩 is the character for 'step'. This makes 一歩一歩 literally 'one step one step'. In other words: 'step by step' or 'one step at a time'! The choice of name came about partly simply because of the nice, bouncy ring that 'Ippo Ippo' has to it. However, more important is the meaning. At Ippo Ippo, learning Japanese is less about sprinting to memorise every vocab item, grammar point or kanji, and more about the process of putting one step forward at a time, finding ways to have fun and explore through the language.
