Cuddesdon College was established in 1854 by Bishop Samuel Wilberforce, whose vision was for a college independent of any specific Church faction, and with a focus on the discipline of daily prayer and spiritual formation. A merger with Ripon Hall in the 1970s, forming Ripon College Cuddesdon, brought in new resources and fresh thinking, and helped develop a new and open approach to theological study. The incorporation of the Oxford Ministry Course in 2006 (now the Part-time Pathway), the West of England Ministerial Training Course in 2011 (now Cuddesdon Gloucester & Hereford) and the Portsmouth Pathway Cuddesdon in 2015 has enabled the College to offer a wide range of outstanding part-time courses that have been well established for over forty years. From 2014, a partnership with Church Mission Society has enabled us to offer training for Ordained Pioneer Ministers. The Cuddesdon Sisters In 2012, the remaining Sisters from two Anglican religious orders - Communities of St John Baptist and The Good Shepherd - joined the College community, providing a praying presence throughout the year. Sadly, due to the pandemic, they moved in the autumn of 2020 to St Mary's Convent and Nursing Home in Chiswick. We miss them being here greatly but keep in close contact with them. Providing interactive workshops in the community. I invite you to take part in community events whilst discovering and benefiting from Qi Gong, Meditation, and Sound Healing As well as being good for your posture and breathing! Qi Gong is recognised as a form of preventative medicine and studies have shown that those who practice it experience less anxiety and better moods. There’s no age limit, there’s no right or wrong, there’s just a desire to take part and nourish yourself in a shared environment. Qigong embraces nature and reminds us of the rhythm of the seasons. Movement meditations are designed for the physical benefits of improving posture and breathing as well as exploring internal resistance. The philosophy of Qigong is that nature is our teacher. Each session or workshop explores how to release tension, embrace change and harness the energy of the cycle of Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer. After a career in Music and the hospitality industry, I re-trained in 2010 in therapeutic sound in the community and then qualified as an instructor in Tai Chi Qi Gong. I continue to study with the Deyin institute in the practice of Tai Chi and Taoist philosophy. Having learned transcendental meditation back in the 80s, self-healing had always been of interest. Having also qualified as a masseuse I have a background in dance and a strong interest in anatomy. I continued to explore using meditation as a means of relaxation whilst incorporating sound healing and movement. My joy is working in community groups with a variety of workshops and sessions I traveled abroad in 2005 to work for a charity in Sarajevo with PTSD sufferers and took some training in this area. I felt drawn to finding ways to help people with trauma to relax and to give themselves time to heal and explore their own physical and emotional journeys. Part of finding a life balance is something we all want to explore. I found the best way for me was a mix of progression in learning as well as in giving and helping charities and worthy organisations. Here’s a list of my contributions. It’s a privilege and not always financially possible but the philosophy is that in giving we receive so it doesn’t always have to be by paying out in money.

The Southover Partnership

the southover partnership

London

The Southover Partnership is one of the UKs leading independent and managed Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) organisations. We are renowned experts in SEN and are passionate about children, learning and teaching. Our dedication to helping children achieve is seen in everything we do. We are committed to providing exceptional and tailored services for each child we teach. What we do The Southover Partnership comprises two core services: The Southover Partnership school – Based across three sites in London. Southover Outreach services – Support in schools & Education Other Than At School (EOTAS) The Southover Partnership history The Southover Partnership was born in the summer of 1994 when Carol Frankl made the decision to start up her own company focusing on special educational needs. She launched the company from her home and named it The Southover Partnership: Southover being her place of residence; Partnership because Carol was adamant that her company would be a collaboration between all parties involved. Southover initially emerged from Carol’s disillusionment with the mechanisms for funding special needs and her passion that each child should have a positive educational experience. At the time there were many grant maintained schools that didn’t have access to local authority services due to the method of funding by central government. The Southover Partnership aimed to ensure special educational needs provision could be met. The service began by offering a select group of students support in school and some at-home tuition. It swiftly extended to providing full-time education to these students. Carol expanded Southover’s services and recruited the highest calibre staff to assist in schools as well as at home. Carol’s outstanding reputation in the education sector put her in demand to provide training and consultancy for SENCOs and schools. So great were the requests for Southover’s servicesprovisions that Carol formed her own school for children with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties and autism. The Southover Partnership school was officially recognised by the Department for Children, Schools and Families in August 2007, with the first inspection taking place in June 2008. This was a huge achievement for Carol, and a real adventure, as prior to this point much of the education for children out of school was provided by local authorities. The Southover Partnership was soon recognised as a leading provider of alternative special needs education

Penelope Ody BSc MNIMH Penelope Ody is a Member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and Fellow of the Herb Society. Hello – and welcome to "Herbs at Walnut", a series of one-day courses on using herbs now in its twentieth year. I have been exploring the fascinating world of herbs for more than 40 years studying initially with the School of Phytotherapy in Kent, UK, and also at the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Guangzhou, China. I practised as a consultant medical herbalist in Buckinghamshire UK, for 11 years while also writing regularly about herbs and editing The Herb Society's various journals from 1988-1994. For the past 20 years I have concentrated on writing books about herbs and lecturing at various courses and summer schools - including Herbs at Walnut which I started in 2002 at my home, Walnut Cottage, in Hampshire. In 2006 these courses were featured in Meridian TV's "Country Lives" series. For most of us, herbs are familiar and readily available plants used for flavouring foods or scenting rooms. Many of them are also potent medicines ideal for using at home as alternatives to over-the-counter pharmaceutical drugs for treating a range of health problems. Our great-grandmothers would have been very familiar with home-made medicines but over the decades we have lost the everyday skill of making them. Commercially produced medicines – both orthodox and herbal – have been readily available to meet our needs. Now, thanks to changing legislation and tighter regulatory control, many of these herbal products are no longer available from chemists or health food shops, so we need to re-learn how to make these simple nostrums and to understand which are most suitable and when to use them. Courses at Walnut Cottage cover a range of herbal topics – from using herbs in cooking to making your own creams and ointments to replace those which are no longer quite so easy to find in the shops. Courses are relaxed and informal with small groups – generally no more than six – giving plenty of flexibility to explore your particular interests. I hope you find a course to meet your needs in this year's timetable. If you have suggestions for other herb courses, or would like to arrange an alternative day for a special group, then please let me know: penny@herbcourses.co.uk

Bristol

Zion is a Community Hub in Bedminster Down, where everyone is welcome. We provide a warm safe space for community groups to run, our cafe is open 9-5pm every weekday and we put on an array of affordable events. Although originally a church, Zion was bought in 2011 by Jess Wright, who lovingly crafted Zion into an essential and well loved hub in Bedminster Down. In the Summer of 2022, members of the community, local businesses and grant organisations came together to purchase Zion as a community share offer! Meet The Team Emma Centre Manager Sadie Cafe Manager Bianca Kitchen Manager Natalie Bar Manager Stuart Cafe Assistant Manager Dan Community Outreach Rosa Programme Coordinator Meet The Directors Martin Sereena Hannah Aimee Claire The History of Zion Back in 2011, Bristol resident Jess Wright purchased an empty Methodist chapel with a loan from Triodos Bank. Once a focus for the local community of Bedminster Down, this historic chapel had been left derelict after the congregation could no longer afford to sustain it. Jess wanted to breathe life back into this beautiful building, a real landmark in BS13. She also wanted to create a much-needed community centre in a residential area with few social or cultural venues. She wanted a place where people of all ages and backgrounds (especially those who were isolated or excluded) could meet to improve wellbeing on a personal and community level. Using a small start-up budget of £5,000 (her own money), Jess began renovating the building. Thanks to the support of a small team of volunteers, Zion opened its doors to the community once again; this time as a small-scale café serving coffee and cakes, and offering a few extras such as film nights and kids’ creative sessions. Over the past 11 years, Zion Community Art Space has become ever more popular. It attracts 15,000 people a year and is now open at least five days a week, offering: a daytime community café that serves freshly made food at an affordable price a broad programme of over 200 events and activities a year, ranging from quiz nights and children’s workshops, to live music, theatre, talks and food events regular daytime drop-in groups such as a Memories Café, Creative Writing Group, Local History Group and Breast-Feeding Support an indoor and outdoor private hire venue for weddings, parties and other celebrations

IPC is a traditionally Danish Folk High School, but compared to other Folk High Schools in Denmark we focus on the world and everything at the school happens in English language. A Folk High School is a special type of school with a focus on personal and educational development. There are no fixed curriculums and no grades are given. You decide what kind of subjects and classes you want, and you are taught by teachers who love what they do. A term at a Folk High School often gives students new energy in pursuing their further carriers, since they are more clear about what they want in life. More than that students often get friends for life. READ MORE Calendar READ MORE Classes The most part of the classes at International People’s College has a global focus – meaning that you learn about the world some way or the other by taking part in the class. We have regional classes, international studies, and a lot of different classes in relation with our core values at the school. More than that we offer creative classes, sports classes, and different classes of interest. We offer nearly 40 different subjects and classes which you can pick and choose from. View the alphabetical list here. VIEW LIST What is a Danish Folk High School? A Folk High School is a non-formal residential school offering learning opportunities in different subject. Most students are between 18 – 24 years old and the length of a typical stay is 4 – 6 months. In Denmark we have a long Folk High School tradition – the first school was founded in 1844. What is an international Folk High School? More and more international students attend the Danish Folk High Schools, but what classifies an international Folk High School is that the school has more international than Danish students and that everything at the school happens in English language. International People’s College is the only international ‘general’ Folk High School in Denmark.

Leicester Fencing Club

leicester fencing club

Leicester

Leicester Fencing Club originated from a merger between Huncote FC and Granby Halls FC in June 1989. The club was then known as the Granby Hall FC until it was no longer possible to continue fencing at the venue. Both Steve Wright and Jim Amberton had gone to Alderman Newton school at what is now Leicester Grammar School, Peacock Lane. They approached the headmaster to see whether to have fencing again on the site. Allowing his pupils free coaching, the club moved venue to the school premises. As the Club grew in size it was decided that we would have to find a larger venue. The City of Leicester School in Evington (formally Leicester City Grammar School for Boys) already had a history of fencing there, so the club moved again in 1992 and due to the change of venue a new name was required. CLUB ‘X’ was suggested but was thrown out for being too silly and finally the Leicester Fencing Club emerged from the ashes. The Deputy Head Master of the School (Alan Rudge) supported the move and growth of the Club at the School. We continued fencing there for five years but again had to move this time due to security reasons. Another venue was sought and we approached Aylestone Leisure Centre. They accepted us with open arms and the rest has been, as they say, history. The club not only looks after Foil, the club’s main weapon, but now Sabre and Epee are coached. The club provides beginner groups for youth and adults which are structured to the British Fencing Association’s Achievement Awards Scheme, all provided by a well-trained and qualified coaching team. We also support our more experienced members with weekly sessions available for further education towards higher grades or simply a safe environment to have a bit of fun. Our sessions run on Tuesdays for Foil (and Epee where in demand) and Fridays for Sabre Cadets (under 18s). Both groups meet from 7pm until 9pm during term times and occasionally run during the half term breaks and summer holiday, dependent on availability of coaches. For more information on beginner classes see the beginners section or if you are a more advanced fencer looking to switch to LFC then take a look at our membership page.
