Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions we receive from parents of our new students: * We are a professional organisation and as such are the premier martial arts association in your area. * Yes, parents do see a marked improvement in concentration levels at school when children have been training with us for a period. * The above classes are for beginner grade children only. * Classes are structured to be fun yet disciplined. We have strict rules regarding fighting / play fighting outside of the classes! * All beginners train in their tracksuit bottoms and t-shirts, they will need a drink of water for during the class. * Our Karate Suits (Gi) cost £35 which includes delivery, white belt & embroidery of Association badge. You do not need to purchase this until you are happy that your child is going to continue their training for the foreseeable future. * Beginner class fees are £26 per calendar month, payable by standing order. We like to encourage students to train as much as possible and even though we only charge for one lesson per week, this fee allows unlimited training in any suitable class, but of course it is up to you how often your child trains! Fees are payable for every month of the year you are a member regardless of attendance. One months’ notice of cancellation in writing is required. * Fees are discounted where more than one direct family members are training! * Please note that once graded to intermediate level students are required to move up a class and train at least twice weekly whenever possible. Monthly fees do increase at Intermediate level. * If for any reason you miss your regular nights training, this can be made up any time at any suitable class within the Association without prior notice! * We do not have Mums, Dads or Guardians in the hall during classes as over the years we have found that children, especially the younger ones tend to join in and enjoy the classes so much more when Mum or Dad aren't looking on. * All Martial Artists no matter how young or old must be licensed! This is a yearly fee, the first year’s licence fee is £27 and includes your Licence & record book, thereafter yearly fees are £22. * All children are taught not to bully and how not to be bullied! The program was put together by myself, Paul Coshott – Liverpool Personal Trainer, as I felt the classes needed a structure, similar to my Kids Martial Arts classes, and it gave the students something to work towards, as they are graded every 3 – 4 months, and are presented with certificates and trophies, on completion of exam I hear a lot in the media about failing schools and children failing at school. Our aim at the studio, is to give children and their schools in Liverpool, a helping hand to get back on track. The Boxing fundamentals program works hand in hand with a child’s schoolwork, providing improved self discipline, self confidence, concentration, mental alertness, co operation, goal setting advice and anti bully skills All young students in my children’s programs are required to take a specially designed form to their teachers at school once a month. This has to be signed off by the teacher before the student can be considered to be put forward for their next exam or martial arts grade. Long Beach, the 7th largest city in California, is on one hand a city of great resources: culturally rich, boasting beautiful ecological features, and home to esteemed higher educational institutions. On the other hand, it is a city of great needs: facing high levels of poverty and its multiple effects, environmental pollution, and rising housing costs. Over the years, Long Beach has become “a tale of two cities,” where certain neighborhoods are characterized by the benefits and resources of affluence and other neighborhoods are bearing the brunt of low incomes, decreased resources, and the challenges of communities of poverty. *Slides & facts courtesy of the Long Beach Community Action Partnership, LBCAP.org Long Beach’s areas of affluence—concentrated primarily on the east side of Long Beach– are characterized by high annual median family incomes, longer life expectancy, higher employment levels, and overall community safety. Areas of critical need are concentrated primarily within North, West Central, and Southwest Long Beach. These neighborhoods experience high levels of poverty, exposure to environmental pollutants, and low levels of educational attainment. Families and children in these areas face great barriers in accessing health care resources, support in early education and educational attainment, and affordable arts programming. These neighborhoods also contain the largest concentration of children in the city.

Pilates works for a wide range of people – from top athletes and dancers, senior citizens, women rebounding from pregnancy, and people at various stages of physical rehabilitation. The Six Pilates Principles: Centering – Control – Flow – Breath – Precision – Concentration Core strength and torso stability are the key elements of Pilates, this is what sets it apart from many other types of exercise. The core muscles are the deep, internal muscles of the abdomen and back. When the core muscles are strong and doing their job, as they are trained to do in Pilates, they work in tandem with the more superficial muscles of the trunk to support the spine and movement. As you develop your core strength you develop stability throughout your entire torso. This is one of the ways Pilates helps people overcome back pain.
