Yate Academy

yate academy

Yate Academy is a happy, energetic and welcoming all-inclusive 11 to 18 academy with a thriving sixth form and a state-of-the-art building with exceptional facilities. It is an academy where we are as passionate about developing our staff as we are about developing our students. We are a proud member of the Greenshaw Learning Trust, a ‘family’ of like-minded schools, that collaborate to provide mutual support, share their good practice and learn from each other, whilst retaining and developing their own distinctive character. Our outstanding GCSE results from summer 2019 have now put us in the top 4% of schools nationally. This means that we are working towards our goal of the students who come to Yate Academy having a better chance of success than if they went anywhere else. These results come from hard work and a focus on really high expectations of staff and students because we know that this is what they deserve. Our students are incredible and deserve amazing teachers, quality lessons and the right levels of support, as well as great opportunities that enrich their experience at school. Our 'Pathway' allows students to develop their character as well as their academic journey through school. We give students the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities such as music and sport; they have a number of trips, including a Year 7 camp; they perform in musical productions; they are ambassadors for events; they take part in poetry competitions; they listen to inspirational speakers at Ivy League Lectures. Come and visit us if you would like to see any of these things in action!

Play Academy

Leeds

Hi there! I’m Karen Holmes, manager and owner of Play Academy. In the Summer of 2019, my life took a huge, exciting turn when I took on this wonderful club. Up until then, I had spent 20 years as a very happy & successful Primary School teacher. During my time as a teacher, I had the pleasure of working with many, many children across the primary age range. I also trained as a student mentor and worked alongside trainee teachers supporting & developing practice. In addition to this I was also responsible for the PSHE curriculum across the whole school, an area I am still massively passionate about. Whilst building my career as an educator, I was also bringing up my two gorgeous sons Toby & Zach. Because I was juggling being a mum with being a teacher, I fully understand the desire parents have for quality wrap around care for children; it’s something my husband and I accessed for our two lovely boys during their primary years. As my career progressed and opportunities were being put in front of me, I paused for a bit and realised that teaching was no longer for me. I was spending less and less time doing the things that had steered me into teaching in the first place; planning, creating & facilitating new and fun quality experiences for children. I wanted to get back to just having ‘fun’ with little people, blowing bubbles, building dens, playing boards games, enjoying the outdoors and most of all…….laughing! To allow children a comfortable, home from home space to practise being good citizens, develop key life skills and master the art of a two way conversation.

Totally Holistic Health

totally holistic health

Holistic Therapist and Yogi - helping you achieve good health though natural therapies and Yoga. Totally Holistic Health was founded by myself, Julie Elder in 2005. I specialise in providing complementary therapy services.  These include Yoga, Bowen, Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy, Kinesiology,  Reflexology and Reiki.  I am based in Cheadle Hulme covering the North Cheshire and South Manchester area. I have always had an interest in Natural Health even from an early age.  After years of working in a corporate environment and seeing the stresses and strains it placed on the body, health and wellbeing I was confident that I needed a change of direction. The ideal opportunity came when my son started school.  This was when I decided to retrain as a therapist.  Within 6 weeks of starting my course I discovered I was pregnant with my daughter – who said that stress doesn’t affect fertility!! I completed the first year of my course, gave birth to my daughter in the summer and continued with the second year with baby in tow.  I still however managed to achieve a college award and distinctions in my HND in Health and Complementary Therapies.  The course gave me a fantastic grounding in all aspects of working in a therapeutic environment.  This included counselling skills; psychology; sociology; diet and nutrition; anatomy and physiology. I also became qualified  Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Swedish Massage and Indian head Massage. My knowledge and determination has never wavered.   I love learning new skills, therapies and gaining new knowledge. Since qualifying in 2005 I have become qualified as a Reiki master; Advanced Bowen practitioner; Baby Massage instructor; Kinesiologist to diploma level and also hold qualifications in Pregnancy Massage; Tibetan Acupressure Head Massage; Natural face Lift Massage and Mindfulness. I am also enhancing my lifelong love of Yoga and have trained as a Yoga Teacher to enhance the treatments I can offer you. Having recently seen the devastating mental health issues after two years of coronavirus and lockdowns I also wanted to offer a supportive service to help with this too so embarked on an amazing Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy course which I completed in 2022.  I am so pleased to be able this awesome modality to my therapy arsenal. Customer service is very important to me and I try to follow up each client’s treatment. Also maintaining and updating my training regularly helps me add additional skills and knowledge to help you receive the best help and advice I can give.

Felpham Community College

West Sussex

Felpham Community College is a community school which means that it is run by the local authority, which employs the staff, owns the land and buildings and decides which ‘admissions criteria’ to use, (these are used to allocate places if the school has more applicants than places). Its International Schools Award provides recognition that an international ethos is embedded throughout the school and that a majority of students within the school are involved in international work. The Healthy Schools Award and Sport England Award demonstrate the school’s commitment to encouraging its students to make healthier life-style choices and to participate in sport above and beyond the school sports curriculum. As one of only 39 personal finance centres of excellence, the school has been recognised and rewarded for taking big steps forward in bringing personal finance education to all our students in the school in order develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes in relation to money to equip them for life. Commitment to supporting students with special educational needs is recognised by the Dyslexia Friendly Schools and Autism Aware awards. With these awards teaching and other support staff are able to identify and respond to unexpected difficulties that students may face. In the summer of 2017, the school was awarded Level 2 / Gold Award as a UNICEF Rights Respecting School. The Award recognises the school’s achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into practice within the school and beyond. As one of only 22 secondary schools with the award initially, the Level 2 Rights Respecting Schools Award is the highest level of the Award and is granted by UNICEF UK to schools that have fully embedded children’s rights throughout the school in its policies, practice and ethos. Governors and staff employed at Felpham Community College are committed and work hard to create an exciting and engaging curriculum for all students. The school believes in getting the basics right; so it has focused on developing a safe, calm and purposeful learning environment with excellent student behaviour and a smart school uniform. The core values of Achievement, Care & Equality underpin the work of the school and reflected in the culture and ethos.

Troed y Rhiw Organics

troed y rhiw organics

Troed y Rhiw is a 23 acre mixed organic farm situated in Ceredigion’s coastal belt, less than two miles from the sea. Established in 2008, it is owned and run by Nathan Richards and Alicia Miller. The farm’s ethos is built around a belief in the necessity of farming sustainably in the 21st century. This means a whole farm holistic approach to food production which starts with the microbial worlds within our soil and encompasses everything from habitat protection and creation, to the role that the farm has within the local community. Along with horticulture production, we also have a small herd of Highland cattle which contribute to the farm’s fertility and provide meat for the family and our customers. We focus on local food, serving our immediate community through a box scheme delivered within thirty miles of the farm, local producer’s markets, and retail outlets such as restaurants and green grocers. Staying local means our food is fresh, mostly picked and sold on the same day, and fresh food is the key to good cooking. The farm supports a range of wildlife. Pipistrelle and Brown Long-eared bats roost in the specially designed bat loft in the roof of our stone dairies. Rabbits, badgers and foxes all live in and around the farm. There is a wide range of bird life living on the farm including Jays, Nuthatches, Blue Tits, Wagtails and other garden birds as well as birds of prey, from Barn Owls and Red Kites to Buzzards which hunt in the surrounding countryside. A Heron regularly visits our pond during the summer months. The farm hosts a colony of bees kept in fourteen hives. A wide variety of butterflies and moths flourish on the farm encouraged by the farm’s diverse habitat and because we don’t use any pesticides.
