Addington School is an Outstanding Special School for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. All our pupils’ primary need is a learning difficulty with up to 50 percent also having Autism. All our pupils have an Education and Health Care Plan or a Statement of Special Educational Needs and we are able to accommodate up to 255 pupils, aged between 3 and 19 years. Based in Woodley and a Wokingham maintained school, we are very fortunate to have a purpose built environment which makes our school a fantastic place for learning and wider curriculum enrichment. We have particular strengths in our Creative Arts with Music a particular focus for all our students and have considerable expertise in teaching strategies for pupils with learning difficulties as well as Autism. Catherine Annis is well known for her imaginative and practical approach to yoga. Originally a professional dancer, she discovered yoga as a teenager, and has been practising since the mid 1970s. In 2017 she created the Intelligent Yoga Teacher Training Course [http://www.intelligentyogateachertraining.co.uk/], an anatomically focused course, with world leading guest teachers, including Gary Carter. Catherine’s yoga practice and teaching focuses on strategies for downregulating the nervous system, working with breath and subtle somatic movements to soothe the mind and create more physical ease for those working with pain, stress and anxiety. She holds a Masters degree in ballet studies, and is a qualified Thai massage practitioner and it is this interest in the body which informs and inspires her teaching.
