Rochdale Connections Trust

rochdale connections trust

Rochdale Connections Trust are the leading independent provider of Domestic Abuse services, family support services and targeted youth support interventions throughout the Borough of Rochdale. We were founded in 1997 by a group of local Youth Court Magistrates concerned by the number of young people coming before them who were disengaged from education with little or no family support. They soon realised that in order to impact effectively the offer of support needed to be extended to incorporate a whole family approach and employed key workers to offer supportive mentoring and bespoke interventions based on identified needs. Volunteer Mentors were recruited and utilised to provide sustained support to clients, most notably troubled adolescents and their families. 25 years after our inception the Charity is deeply embedded in the diverse local communities of Rochdale, Heywood, Middleton and The Pennines townships, particularly those with greatest need. We are trusted by residents, with a good word of mouth reputation. By knowing our community, understanding the complexity of the issues faced and evolving as an organisation to meet changing social, health and wellbeing needs. We remain wholly committed to our core work with vulnerable, disadvantaged children, young people and their families, delivering intense, supportive interventions designed to prevent disengagement including a package of bespoke mentoring support, group work and 1:1 sessions; in addition to dedicated work with the family.

All staff have been fully briefed with regard to appropriate practices to ensure the spread of the virus is minimised. By maintaining rigorous cleanliness and hygiene standards across all of our sites we aim to minimise the spread of the virus. Full Risk Assessments have been adopted and we are working with customers, families, carers and other third parties to ensure appropriate management of our practices and procedures. Flexible, engaging and fully supported vocational day provision for young adults 16-24 and adults 25+ with mild to moderate learning difficulties/disabilities, brain injuries, autism and/or mental health located in Great Barr and Tamworth. Since 1996 we have recognised that adults who learn differently can enjoy increased independence, improved wellbeing and greater life choices through our vocational learning provision. The cut-backs in free education courses through colleges has necessitated an alternative approach which led to the establishment of Community Prospects. We felt that it was crucial that the continued funding changes should not take away the significant progress that we had seen in 100’s of students since 1996. Lorna Pilates Sheffield

My background is nursing having worked as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency department for many years, formally working as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in a GP surgery. I am passionate about helping people become well and whole, to live life to their full potential. My career took a change of course when I trained to become a Body Control Pilates teacher, after a number of years of personal experience in Body Control Pilates, which I started after advice from a physiotherapist. I have appreciated the benefit of Pilates for my own health as well as improved performance in the sport I do - climbing, mountain biking, skiing. Through Pilates and working with those with PoTS and Long-COVID, I wanted to learn more about breathing, and realised the benefit of breathing well has on our health and wellbeing. For a long time I have been aware of the mind-body connection and the influence of stress (current, past and personality types) have on our body. I am now trained as a Stress Induced Recovery Practitioner working with those with stress induced symptoms. Movement and breathing and acknowledging the impact of stress on our body, will help calm our nervous system. I have a specific interest in those with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS), Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) and Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), Myalgic encephalomyelitis or chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), Long-COVID and any other chronic health conditions.
