Deborah was born in Yorkshire. She is an award winning contemporary sculptor who specialises in stone. She discovered stone carving in her middle years in the Greenbelt Festival craft tent. Later she went on to study Fine Art and do a years diploma in stone masonry after which she turned professional after the death of her mother in 2015. Her first sculpture teacher said stone was a perfect option as it limited the numerous creative choices she could make as she is led by the stone, using the technique called carving direct, following it’s grain, form and colour. She lives with the rocks until she sees the shape within, then carves until she reaches a skin and the sculpture takes on a life of it’s own. Her works are a unique combination of figurative and abstract forms. Deborah is best known for her alabaster sculptures and also carves in marble and limestones. Deborah seeks convergence between the characteristics of the stone, her growing carving skills and her faith. Carving with hands, head and heart to impute emotion and presence into her pieces. Notable sales have been to the NHS Trust with ‘The Hand of Fannie Storr’ a previous director of nursing, to Sir Malcolm Evans the Chair of the United Nations Anti-Torture Subcommittee, a luxury spa hotel in Portugal and CEO of a large company in the USA. Deborah won the Ashburner Sculpture Prize 2022 for her Stone Totem which was about Connectivity (see website page). Previously in 2020 she received the Sculpture Award and Guest Judges Award with the SWAC, was the winner of the Christian Arts Festival Award, selected for the RWA 168th exhibition and was also a finalist for the Chaiya Arts Awards (exhibited in the London South Bank’s Oxo Gallery). In 2019 she was a finalist for the online Covid-19 IMPACT exhibition. Deborah enjoys working collaboratively with organisations to raise access to the arts in the community. Her work was the basis of the Matson Sculpture festival where she gave workshops in local schools and talks to the community. Her work was part of a charity auction to raise funds for refugees. Deborah is based at Gloucester City Works who are based in an old shirt factory where she leads carving courses for all levels of ability and experience. She welcomes commissions for indoor and outdoor sculptures, for public and private clients.

Papu Jordan is a fully qualified Reiki Practitioner & Teacher and Massage Therapist with a particular interest in women’s health issues. She is also a Sound Healer, Meditation Teacher and workshop facilitator. Papu was brought up in an immigrant family in which western medicine was used alongside more traditional methods and natural treatments, and so whilst developing a career in teaching, she continued gaining knowledge and experience of Complementary Therapies and using them in her own life. Papu now lives in Harpenden with her husband & Springer spaniel and has been using complementary therapies with her family for many years. She chants every day, is studying the ancient language of Sanskrit and has attended the Teacher Training programme at Sanskrit@St James’, London, which is further informing her work with Mantra & Meditation. Papu Jordan Holistic Therapies for Women was established in 2006 with a view to helping and supporting busy women with the stresses of modern life through Complementary Therapies. Since then, the practice has grown with many clients coming for short term sessions to deal with acute issues or as a treat. Others require longer courses of treatments to help with more chronic conditions or as maintenance/preventative therapeutic sessions. Many have gone on to do Reiki training with Papu and become part of her local Reiki network of students and practitioners through Reiki shares, workshops and other events. Papu has experience treating all ages – from babies & children right through to the elderly; and in supporting people with a wide variety of conditions, including life limiting ones, both as a Grove House volunteer therapist and in private practice. I work with a wide variety of individual students ranging from professional athletes, musicians and actors to people with chronic pain issues, injuries or those simply wanting to become more in tune with how they move in daily life. I teach regular workshops for the general public and also to Pilates and fitness teachers, physiotherapists, runners, tennis and golf coaches and ski instructors. I’m the creator of the FeldenFit 30 day Programme to refine your ability for powerful, effective and balanced movement which is hosted by Ritter Dressage. I co teach an online course for riders called The Aware Rider with Dr Thomas Ritter and Shana Ritter. I add rider content on the Ritter’s online courses which focus on the biomechanics of dressage. I am also a Gestalt psychotherapist with a particular interest in working with developing awareness of how my clients embody their emotional and psychological patterns. Biography I’m an accredited Feldenkrais practitioner and have been teaching sport, fitness and movement since 1986. I also have an Msc in Clinical Gestalt Psychotherapy. As an internationally qualified ski instructor and ski instructor coach, I taught in Europe, New Zealand and USA. Returning to London I worked as a personal trainer and was one of the first to incorporate Pilates into my training methods. Many of my clients were very fit but I was always looking for something that would take them further. Despite daily strengthening and stretching regimes and regular osteopathic and physiotherapy treatments I found that their progress was often hampered by niggling injuries and chronic stiffness. Only when I came across the Feldenkrais Method did I make the connection that stretching, strengthening or manipulation were not the key. As I incorporated the Feldenkrais Method into my training my clients started to recognise for themselves how the way they moved could cause injury and interfere with their ability to reach their goals. Through the lessons they learned how much excess effort they put into everything they did, not only in sport but also daily activities. They started to notice surprising and unexpected improvements in their coordination. Many reported an increased sense of physical comfort and ease. I decided to embark on the 4 year Feldenkrais Training which I completed in 2002. I completed my Masters in Clinical Gestalt Psychotherapy in 2016.

Liverpool Hope University is distinctive in that it is the only university foundation in Europe (and the USA) where Catholic and Anglican colleges have come together to form an integrated, ecumenical, Christian foundation. It has happened in Liverpool and nowhere else in Europe largely because of the presence in the 1980s of two remarkable church leaders: Bishop David Sheppard, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese, and Archbishop Derek Worlock, the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese that extends from Liverpool across the north of England. They confessed their faith to each other and took their congregations to visit each other’s cathedrals, a symbolic act of Christians working together in the context of northern Irish religious sectarianism. When the three colleges (St Katharine’s 1844, Notre Dame College 1856 and Christ’s College 1964) came together the name ‘Hope’ was adopted came from Hope Street that links both cathedrals - a living parable of what can happen when Christians unite and work together for the common good. This year we celebrate 175 years since the founding of our first college in 1844; in that year there were only six universities in England (two of them medieval) but all of them did not admit women, Catholics or Jews. The founding colleges of Liverpool Hope University were among the first few institutions to begin opening up higher education to the vast majority of England’s population.
