The goal of YJLC to be a centre of excellence on youth justice law came at a time when very few resources existed for professionals and there was no requirement that lawyers representing children in the criminal justice have any kind of specialist training. The legal landscape has progressed in a short time, in no small part due to the work of YJLC. YJLC works in collaboration with civil society, legal bodies and educational entities to ensure that the capacity and knowledge of those working with children in the criminal justice system is constantly evolving and improving. It was always clear to us that children in the criminal justice system should be represented by specialists. The aim in creating YJLC was to fundamentally improve the way these children are represented. YJLC has exceeded those original dreams and continues to grow, support and celebrate this important community of people providing a key, frontline role in society. Growing up, I always loved sport and physical exercise, I was up for any challenge, so when I had my first son I presumed I could get back to it right away. Unfortunately, at the time, despite all my physical activity, I had a lack of understanding about the way the body works and repairs itself. I tried to get back into all the activities I had done, and realised that I wasn’t able to do this without pain and discomfort. It just didn’t feel good. After the birth of my second son, I ended up needing a hernia operation. At that point my sister recommended Pilates - that is when everything changed for me. I understood why my body hurt. It was so simple: I wasn’t balanced. It was such a basic concept that I had never really been taught before in all my training. Very quickly, I was able to get back to the activities I loved with little or no pain! Inspired by this new knowledge, I started learning as much as I could. My passion grew the more I learned and I ended up training to become a Pilates Level 2 instructor on the Mat and the Reformer. I had to share what I had learnt with others. I enjoy working with everyone, from experienced practitioners to people trying Pilates for the first time. Recently I have worked with elite sports teams and, having been a high-level sportsperson myself in the past, I am realizing the true potential that there is to help people of all physical abilities make stronger connections with their bodies. The more we understand about our own bodies, the more we can work towards living the most active, healthy and pain free lives that we can.

First established in 1987, we have helped support generations of educators and lobbied successfully for the introduction of compulsory Relationships and Sex Education in England. In April 2021 we established ourselves as an independent charity. As the voice of Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) in England we promote and protect the physical and mental health of children and young people by improving their access to RSE. We bring together our partners and wider stakeholders to share best practice, research, monitor the provision of RSE, explore and respond to new themes and identify gaps. Working together with our partners, members and wider stakeholders is central to everything we do. We support educators with high quality training, resources and a membership scheme, so they can be competent and confident providers of RSE, in partnership with parents, carers, children and young people. We gather international evidence about effective RSE and use this to inform policy and practice and to increase public understanding of the benefits of RSE. Established in 1987, the Sex Education Forum has a long history of influencing policy, that is grounded in the latest research and evidence, and supporting educators with resources and advice. After 34 years of being hosted at the National Children’s Bureau, we established ourselves as an independent charity in April 2021. Thank you for visiting our website. This page is to help you understand a little more about our background and ethics. As the Managing Director & Lead Trainer of 1st ACT Ltd, my role is to co-ordinate the training, the syllabuses, the trainers and the venues to make your experience the best it can be. We've made changes over the last 10 years, all based on client feedback. My personal First Aid background goes back to 1990, when I joined the British Army and was being trained and fully prepared to serve in the golf war. First Aid is obviously a priority for all our military personnel, but when you feel it could be needed soon, it definitely makes you sit up and listen. At least it did with me, so much so that I wanted to know more and more about the amazing human body. After leaving the forces it appeared to me, to be a natural progression to enter into the Emergency Services, so after a few years with Wiltshire Fire Brigade I moved onto London Fire Brigade in 2000. With our First Aid knowledge and some with training backgrounds, my colleagues and I were asked to assess and then train First Aid for a few large companies based around the South East of England. I setup and established 1st ACT in April 2007 (becoming a Limited Company in April 2015) with the aim of making life saving skills affordable to all without dropping any of the high standards often found in larger organisations. With 1st ACT Ltd you still get the same wealth of experience and high level of training but at prices our competitors simply cannot come close to on Ofqual regulated courses!
