Inaura School is an independent, co-educational special school for pupils who have complex educational, social, emotional and mental health needs. The school has 3 education learning bases located in the county of Somerset. We provide student educational day placements for Somerset and the surrounding local authorities including: Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, Devon, North Somerset and Wiltshire. Our Key Stage 2-3 learning base is located in Wedmore. Our Centre for Outreach and Outdoor Learning is located near Godney, Wells while our two Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 learning bases are located in Burrowbridge and near Godney, Wells. All of our students have Education Health and Care Plans and are placed with us through their local authority SEND departments. We work with students who have encountered challenges in mainstream, pupil referral units and other special school settings. Many of our students have experienced failure in multiple educational settings. That is why we do things a little differently. Our approach encompasses a relational and non-coercive philosophy for teaching and learning. This philosophy focuses on building trust and systematically removing the barriers that pupils have previously encountered in their learning journeys.

the create escape (cumbria)

After 3 years of creating escapes for so many lovely folks, we find ourselves in a position where we need to escape ourselves for a short time. Due to personal circumstances, we are taking at least a 3-month sabbatical from January. Though we very much hope to be back in the farmhouse kitchen in Spring, we are not in a position to schedule any workshops at this point in time. We will announce our future plans via our newsletter – when we know what they are! If you haven’t done so already, please do feel free to subscribe below. We held a wonderful assembly this week to celebrate the myriad of sporting achievements that have taken place in recent weeks. Our athletes won the inter-school tournament after competing brilliantly in a wide range of challenging athletic events. The recent inter-school cross-country event was a roaring success for everyone who took part, showing incredible drive and determination. Our Year 5 boys won overall in their part of the contest and we congratulated everyone who played their part in this team's success. Our boys football team received their medals and trophy in assembly in front of all their peers after recently winning the league! What a fantastic achievement. Our girls football team were also given a great send off to their match yesterday which they went on to win 3-1. The children are an inspiration to everyone across the school as they are superb role models for sport and sporting behaviour. Our new trophies will take pride of place in the trophy cabinet! We also all said a fond farewell to Mr Weston and wished him every success in his new post.

Thistle Aikikai is a member of the Scottish and Borders Birankai under the technical direction of T.K Chiba Shihan. The Chief Instructor, Michael Flynn Shihan began his study of Aikido in 1982 at San Diego Aikikai under the direction of Shihan TK Chiba. He was named Shihan in June of 2005 and was awarded 7th Dan by Doshu Ueshiba Moriteru on 14 January 2018 during the Kagami Baraki celebration at Hombu Dojo. He was formally awarded his Shihan Certificate in a ceremony at Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo in November 2006 by the second Doshu, Ueshiba Moriteru. He has also received Iaido Shihan title from Mitsuzuka Sensei. Since arriving in Scotland, Flynn Sensei has established the Thistle Aikikai. He serves as the Chairman and Technical Director of Scottish and Borders Birankai. Thisle Aikikai offers beginner through to advanced classes in Aikido and weapons. All are welcome. Instruction in Iaido , the art of drawing the sword and striking a killing blow, is also offered at Thistle Aikikai. In Iaido, students learn to use the sword not merely as a tool for cutting down one’s enemy, but as a method of allowing the mind and body to become more harmonious with nature. During training, students will learn the forms of the Muso Shinden Ryu Iai as developed by Nakayama Hakudo Sensei, with a goal toward synchronizing their breathing and body motions within the techniques in order to understand and practice the efficient use of the body.
