About Compass Education and Training At Compass Education, we strive to keep our courses the best they can be. Since the beginning, our courses have been based on knowledge, experience, and a passion for animals. Our courses are written, edited and published by professionals with years of teaching and first hand experience with animals, giving you the best quality of study material available. A word from our Director For anyone embarking on a course of study it can be a difficult time, deciding which course, whether or not you will enjoy it and wondering what you will get for your investment are just some of the things that you will be considering. I hope that by telling you something about myself, my passion for and life of involvement with animals you will understand a little of the enthusiasm that has gone into creating Compass Education and Training over the last 23 years. Apart from my time in the forces I have had dogs in my life since I was five years old and being in my sixties that means a lot of dogs, everything from working breeds, toy breeds, terriers, utility breeds to hounds. I have seen the joy of puppies growing up, the hard work of the elderly and infirm dog and experienced the devastation of losing many friends, the pride of being unconditionally accepted by them, the frustrations and elations of working with rescued dogs and everything in between. We currently have 11 dogs and I cannot imagine life without them, they are an inspiration, no more so than when I was going through treatment for cancer 11 years ago. David Montgomery David Montgomery Without qualifications I felt that despite my knowledge and experience I could only be regarded, like so many others working with animals, as a keen amateur. I read books, picked up information from television, trained my dogs and rescued any injured wildlife I came across or was brought to me. It was then I decided that if I was to become truly professional I needed a better education, so in 1994 I enrolled at Oxford Brookes University on a combined studies degree of Psychology and Animal Behaviour. Three years later I achieved my 2:1 BSc (Hons) and for those of you wondering if it’s possible whilst working in your late thirties and paying a mortgage, there is the evidence. After graduating I studied Counselling Skills at University College London and went on to professionally offer behaviour counselling.

Here at La Tuilerie, in the beautiful and historic Val d’Albret, near Nérac, in the heart of Gascony, SW France, is the weaving and teaching studio of Stacey Harvey-Brown. Her life’s continuing goal is to create 3-dimensional woven art inspired by nature, and to enthuse, inspire and assist others who wish to explore the world of weave – My mission is unlocking creativity through weave so that you can be the weaver you want to be! Like everyone else, The Loom Room France has had to postpone all studio courses until 2022 (following government guidelines). However, Stacey is working on an exciting project called Woven Optical Illusions. She presented a seminar to the New England Weavers on Saturday 17th July and now is continuing to develop more fascinating illusions in weave for a book which is planned for Summer 2022! At The Loom Room France, we offer you a holiday weaving experience you will never forget (in a good way!!) When life returns to ‘normal’, we shall continue to offer our regular courses and some new ones! One week Courses – whatever your weaving experience, whether complete beginner, intermediate, or experienced, we offer tailor-made residential weaving courses. Incorporated into your course are two half-day excursions in this enchanting area, visiting selected places of interest, local markets (a hallmark of this area of France) and experiencing the food and drink of the region, as well as home-brewed real English ale from professional micro-brewer, Albret Ales, and enjoying the wonderfully relaxed joie de vivre of life in the slow lane. VG Training was created and is led by Director, Vicki Gwynne, who lives locally with her partner (Nick) daughter (Jess) and their slightly unsociable rabbit (Speedy). She has worked across Stoke on Trent in a variety of roles over the years, has a vocational background in education, psychology, support for adults and young people with multiple needs, and is a qualified teacher and trainer. Vicki is passionate about Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire – the area, the people, and the skills and experience within it. VG Training was created after she realised how many local companies paid for out of area ‘experts’ and ‘specialists’ to train their staff and provide advice… paying high travel and accommodation costs, big city prices, and having to explain local history and requirements as the ‘experts’ didn’t understand the local dynamics. Vicki knew colleagues and other local trainers who had similar qualifications and experience and the ability to deliver good quality learning or advice, so built up a fantastic, local team of specialist trainers and consultants to deliver a variety of training courses, learning experiences and consultations at affordable prices! Maria has an MSc in Neuroscience from the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College, London. She has worked in prestigious scientific institutes throughout her scientific career, including The institute of Neurology, UCL, London School of Pharmacy, Imperial College and The Royal Marsden Hospital, London. She has been an author in many scientific publications, including a first author paper, which is recognition for her scientific research. As a former primary Head Teacher of three substantive posts and one interim headship, I now enjoy my role in providing independent consultancy support and challenge to leaders at all levels in a wide range of context. I am former School Improvement Partner (SIP) across four Local Authority areas, Ofsted and Diocesan Inspector. I am an accedited and experienced leadership coach and employ a coaching approach to much of my work with the school leaders. I have trained many leaders to become effective coaches and facilitated the implementation of a coaching culture in a number of schools. I continue to facilitate and lead the review of Head Teachers’ performance since its introduction in 2001, across many part of the country. I am tuned into the needs of governors with regard to this and offer training to governors who are new to the process. I have assisted the development of governing bodies in many areas of governance. NICKI BELL Former Head Teacher I first became a Head Teacher in January 1995 and was substantive Head Teacher of three schools and an interim Head Teacher of a fourth. Between my last two headships I worked for four years for a national training company in Cambridge that was, at that time, an affiliated centre for the National College. I was responsible for rolling out a number of a national programmes in the East region, including Leading from the Middle. I retired from headship in 2016. My final school was a three-form entry Infant and Nursery School in Birmingham judged by Ofsted to be an outstanding school. We were federated to our adjoining Junior school which was the lead school in a Teaching School Alliance, (TSA) and I was heavily involved in the CPD element of this. My career has offered lots of opportunities to do exciting things. I was a seconded National College Associate for four years supporting school leadership in the West Midlands. I have been lucky enough to write and deliver leadership training in many different places, the two most distant being in the Middle East and China. I now have two roles. I am Director of Primary Education for a Trust for 40% of my time and the rest of my working life is freelance, frequently working with Alistair. We write and deliver training for leaders, at all levels, in primary schools and develop resources to support head teachers with many of the bureaucratic tasks of headship. Alongside this I do a lot of 1-1 support of schools, acting as an Improvement Partner, supporting HT performance management and providing CPD.

I began an intensive search for personal liberation quickly discovering a spiritual teaching that had its roots in Hindu mysticism. Establishing and facilitating this relational practice in London and throughout the world I have expanded my interests and understanding. The creation and development of Wise Studies is a natural continuation along this path. Forest Sports Education (FSE) is an educational institution based in The Dean Academy Secondary School in Lydney that provides fantastic facilities and a quality learning experience for students, aged 16 and over, seeking a future career in sport. The college specialises in teaching sport courses to its students, which include the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development and the Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport programmes. The Level 3 BTEC Diploma qualification is equivalent to achieving 3 A-levels at the end of the two-year course, while the Level 2 course has been put in place to enable learners who do not achieve the acceptance criteria for the Level 3 course to stay in further education and progress their knowledge. After completion of the Level 2 course, students are then able to progress on to the BTEC Level 3 Diploma. BTEC national qualifications Pearson Level 3 qualifications designed to provide highly specialist work-related qualifications in a range of vocational sectors. It is one of the country's largest sports and education providers, with an established track record of working with professional sports club and institutions since 2006. All students at the college will gain access to the state of the art Sports Brain learning platform that VLUK provide. The innovative Sports Brain platform enables learners to access all course information online from any smart device (computer, tablet, smart phone, etc). We are IVE (formerly CapeUK) was established as an incorporated company in April 1997 and registered as a charity in April 1999. Inspired by radical new models of creative education, the company was originally set up as a research and development organisation. CapeUK looked to drill down into the creative process and explore how it might be used to drive improvements in teaching and learning. We became influential in relation to policy development and established a national and international reach in relation to championing creativity and professional learning. We also acted as advisors to Government on the importance of creativity and how it might be developed as a transferable skill. By 2014 we realised there was an opportunity to diversify our work and utilise the learning that 17 years of research and development had provided us. It was clear there was significant appetite beyond the education and cultural sectors for programmes that were aimed at developing the creative capacity and competencies of the workforce, and particularly in leadership. We have therefore spent the last 5 years designing and delivering training that aims to teach creativity as a transferable skill and how to create the right environment for creativity to flourish within the workplace, driving innovation, in a consistent and structured way.
