Teesdale School

teesdale school

Durham

Nestled in Barnard Castle in the spectacular Teesdale countryside and imprinted with the historic values of the Dales and our close-knit community, Teesdale School is a place where traditional values of kindness, respect and hard work take precedence. Our school teaches over 600 children, all of whom we know individually. We know not just their progress and grades, but take pride in knowing who they are; their aspirations, ideas, worries, talents and dreams. By understanding not just what our students can do, but who our students are, we can truly bring out the best in them, helping to champion their ambitions and nurture their talents. We were recently judged as ‘outstanding’ by school inspectors Ofsted, the highest accolade a school can achieve. They reported that the quality of teaching and learning is outstanding and that our pupils show highly positive attitudes, work hard and are proud of their work and their achievements. Read the full report below. In 2017 we joined the North East Learning Trust. The Trust share our ambitions for students and bring with them experience and expertise to help us secure ‘excellence for every child every day’ - a vision that is commonly shared by all schools in the Trust. We understand that choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make, therefore we hope that our website sparks your curiosity about our school and that you visit us to see first-hand what a special place it really is.

The Pilgrims School

the pilgrims school

Welcome to The Pilgrims’ School, a boys-only day and boarding prep school, that prepares boys for senior school with confidence. At Pilgrims', being a boys-only school, we don’t need to worry about gender stereotypes and there are opportunities abound: from physics to music, drama to rugby, knitting to ecology, fives to chess and so much more. A Majestic Setting In the awe-inspiring setting of ancient-listed buildings nestled between Winchester Cathedral and Winchester College, you won’t find a ‘typical’ Pilgrims’ boy. In small classes with teachers who are subject specialists, Pilgrims’ is a place of outstanding personalised learning and teaching. We maximise the progress of every boy across our broad curriculum, co-curriculum, and extra-curriculum. Preparing boys for top senior schools Boys leave Pilgrims' for the country's top senior boarding schools, including Winchester College, Eton College, Charterhouse, Radley, Marlborough, Sherborne, and leading senior boarding and day schools. On average, over a third of our of boys gain a scholarship or other award to their senior school, including sports and many academic and music scholarships and exhibitions. As a prep school, our job is to ensure that boys are well-prepared so that they may thrive and be happy when they transition to their chosen senior school. Senior schools are looking for academics and a love of learning. And boys with a good character, who have the ability to contribute to school life, whether that be in music, sport, art, debating, drama or chess, to name but a few.

Centre Academy

centre academy

A leading educator has called the Centre Academy Schools (London and East Anglia) “the most successful special needs schools in the UK and, indeed, the most unique.” Here’s why: We accept a broad range of ages, boys and girls, from 7-19 (9-19 in London). This eliminates the anxiety, common to SEN students, of having to move from school to school to school. Research has repeatedly shown that for an SEN student, moving school is a tremendously daunting experience. We address an equally broad range of learning challenges on a case-by-case basis: ASD, AD/HD, Dyslexia, Speech and Language needs, Anxiety to name but a few. Such breadth and versatility is essential, as most SEN students face more than one learning challenge—and Anxiety is common to almost all. We group not by age or by year group but rather by ability and level of preparedness. Research repeatedly shows that SEN students accomplish best when they work with peers who are working at approximately the same level. We keep our schools small, approximately 50 at London and 60 at East Anglia. This ensures that our class sizes are small (usually between 4-8 students) and that learning will be individualised. At the CA schools, one size does not fit all. All our teachers are highly experienced and all have significant expertise in teaching SEN students. We do not increase our student to staff ratio through use of learning support assistants. When our children leave Centre Academy, the do so with Outcomes: they have earned appropriate qualifications and they know exactly
