The Aqualife Story Aqualife Swimming was founded by Penny Watkins in 2012. As a child, Penny was a naturally gifted swimmer, swam competitively and felt very at home in the water. In 1999 she gave up her career in a City law firm and packed her rucksack, heading off for water-based adventures around Europe, Africa and Asia. Whilst managing and teaching at a Scuba Diving centre in the Canary Islands, Penny got her first taste of the joy of teaching others about the aquatic world. Penny returned to the UK in 2006 and decided to follow her heart and pursue a career in swimming teaching. Crucially, she was determined to offer something in addition to swimming skills; she would take a holistic approach to her teaching and ensure that all her swimmers grew to love the water and have an understanding and respect for the aquatic world. In 2012 she was offered the opportunity to take over the running of a small local swimming school . . . And Aqualife Swimming was born. The swim school now employs 16 swimming instructors and provides high quality and fun swimming lessons to hundreds of individuals every week, at three venues in Sevenoaks, Kent. Classes include Adult Aquafit, Aquanatal, Parent and Baby/Toddler classes, STA accredited children's lessons and a special Junior Lifeguard programme, and all are designed to develop ability, confidence and a love of all things aquatic. Class sizes are small which enables all swimmers to have the space and time to learn at their own pace. Key to the Aqualife ethos is teaching all swimmers to understand their own natural buoyancy in the water and thus become confident independent swimmers. You will never use use armbands or buoyancy controls in an Aqualife classes. All of the Aqualife team follow Penny’s original vision of teaching swimming skills in a holistic natural environment, whilst also helping babies, children and adults develop a love of water and a respect and understanding of the aquatic world.

At Actionable Intelligence we deliver hands-on, real to life, interactive complex care training to carers, nurses and allied health professionals alike. The courses can be run face to face or remotely over Zoom. They are designed to your individual learners needs and ensure the staff leave with the knowledge, skills and theoretical confidence to deliver safe and effective care to those they support. We run a suite of over 35 difference courses, mandatory and complex care alike. These course include Tracheostomy Care, PEG Care, medication management, Catheter care, Stoma care, Basic Life Support, Manual Handling, Diabetes Management, Epilepsy Management and much much more. The courses are run by Helen whom has a wealth of experience facilitating interactive, fun and authentic training courses as well as over 25 years experience as a registered nurse. Helen has experience nursing in a variety of different settings including ITU, acute respiratory, diabetes, spinal injury management, community care and palliative care. We started in 2009, and we’ve been on an epic journey ever since. From our beginnings where we were solely focused on children’s football coaching to delivering our first ‘100% Active’ session in 2017, we’ve tried to stay true to our core beliefs. These are that all children should have the opportunity to develop through a variety of exciting activities that engage both body and brain, inspiring them to have a happy and healthy lifestyle. From the outset our focus has always been on children and their enjoyment of being active, learning new skills, improving their confidence and developing friendships. When we started in 2009 were running sessions for approximatley 40 children a month; this has now increased to almost 2000 children a month. We genuinely love being part of the children’s development and over the years we have had some amazing stories to tell. We find it fascinating to observe how individual children are in their handling of situations and how they get their characters across when integrating with new groups of children, even at the age of 18 months old. It is this kind of reward that keeps us focused on our goals, but we have a big challenge! Children of today are growing up in a world where they can lose hours during a day, day after day, week after week through being on electronic devices, during which time they have no interaction with other people. We have to acknowledge that we are living in a technology encompassing world now, but our vision is to create a balance between technology and being active. We want to offer variety and engagement through the sessions we offer to ensure children don’t lose the vital skills which will help them as they develop in life… things such as social skills, the ability to converse, the ability to handle situations, to adapt to changing environments, earn respect, be part of a team and how to win and lose.

Kokoro Karate is a traditional Shotokan karate school with a modern approach to practical applications. At Kokoro we take an holistic approach to our training, developing mind, body and spirit. We believe this empowers our students and develops mindfulness, self-confidence, heath, fitness, concentration, co-ordination and respect. The Class Instructor is Sensei Paul Cooper 4th Dan. Paul has over thirty years of experience, achieving his black belt in 1987 with Hanshi Shiro Asano 9th Dan, who was a direct student of Nakayama, the founder of the JKA. Paul has trained internationally with many world respected teachers in his karate career grading with the SKIF, SSKA and the Conroy Karate Group. We are governed by NAKMAS (National Association of Karate and Martial Arts Schools), the only martial arts body in Britain to hold a Government recognised British Standards Quality Kitemark (BS:EN ISO 9001:2015) via the British Standards Insitution (BSI) and is accredited to the Equality Standard: A Framework for Sport at Intermediate level. Paul is a senior instructor and examiner for the NAKMAS Governing Body and the club operates within the strict policies and guidelines laid down by them. Our dojo is at The Old Library Sports & Community Centre, Singleton Road, Splott, Cardiff, CF24 2ET Training is suitable for men, women and children aged ten/eleven years and over. We do allow children (primary school age) by prior agreement to train if a parent or guardian trains as well in the senior class, we also offer our Kokoro Tigers programme that is designed for children from 4/5 (school reception class) to 10/11 years old. Shotokan training is divided into three parts: kihon (basics), kata (forms or patterns of moves), and kumite (sparring). Techniques in kihon and kata are characterised by deep, long stances that provide stability, enable powerful movements, and strengthen the legs. Shotokan is regarded as a dynamic martial art as it develops anaerobic, powerful techniques as well as developing speed.
