I have been a part of mathematics education for over 30 years as a teacher, mathematics subject leader and Local Authority consultant. As Inspiring Maths Education, I’m continuing my extensive 20+ year track record supporting primary and secondary schools to improve and develop the quality of teaching and learning with a specific focus on mathematics. This includes providing high quality, bespoke subject specific training, support, advice, consultancy and professional development across the country and internationally. As an independent consultant, I wear a number of hats working for a variety of organisations. I am an accredited professional lead for the National Centre for the Excellence in Teaching Mathematics (NCETM). I am a work group lead for NCETM Maths Hubs across the Midlands: North Midlands (NM) and East Midlands West (EMW). These look at Mastery Readiness, Developing Teaching for Mastery, SKTM for TAs and ECTs in the primary phase, as well as Y5-8 continuity. As an associate lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, I work with student teachers at the very start of their careers in teaching as both an academic mentor and lecturer. I am a School Development Lead for ARK Curriculum Mathematics Mastery programme visiting schools to support them in their mastery journey. I deliver mathematics training for Teachers’ Courses and Resources (TCR) in Staffordshire, offering a range of CPD opportunities both face to face and remotely which allows me to work with teachers both in this country and beyond. I have a real passion for the teaching and learning of mathematics and have had a considerable involvement in teaching mathematics both as a teacher, subject leader and adviser over a long career. My enthusiasm for mathematics is infectious and I have vast experience of working with a variety of stakeholders in schools to guide and inspire the next generation of mathematicians.

Our mission is to give hope and opportunities to children and young people in West London, so they fulfil their potential and leave prepared and excited for adult life. The Avenues team of youth professionals provides a safe, caring, youth-led space in a disadvantaged inner-city area, where young people can learn, develop and build towards a brighter future. Open-access after-school and holiday programmes take place in our purpose-built youth centre in North Westminster. Activities encompass sport, healthy cooking, music, art, dance, radio, skills development and career pathways. Delivered by our experienced team, the work is child-centred and promotes enjoyment, collaboration and individually tailored support towards personal development. Young people are encouraged to become volunteers, participate in social action, and to use their voices to share their ideas, opinions and needs, which in turn helps us shape the youth programmes. We are committed to the highest quality of youth work and in 2021 we were awarded the Gold Level London Youth Quality Mark. This is the badge of excellence for our sector, a quality assurance programme co-delivered with UK Youth and recognised by City and Guilds, local authorities and funders. The Avenues is one of London's leading youth centres. The Avenues team of youth professionals welcomes young people from every community in West London to a fun, creative space where you can discover new passions, skills and friends. Our purpose-built centre on Third Avenue, W10 has a sports hall, dance studio, music recording studio, radio room, training kitchen and art studio. Fi grew up in London and throughout her childhood was always either making things, drawing or painting. She did her foundation course in London and then chose to leave the city and take her degree in Fine art Painting in the beautiful city of Bath. After spending a couple of years, based in a studio group in Bristol, making her own work, she decided to move back to London and shortly thereafter she did a PGCE and began her teaching career. After having her son, and due to work commitments, Fi and her family moved to Worcester and this is where she began honing her skills as a jeweller. She is now a jewellery designer and painter, offering unique, handmade jewellery pieces which are mostly made in silver, incorporating semi precious stones and accents of gold. Jewellery commissions are regularly undertaken and include recycling of old jewellery pieces to make new. Her jewellery is inspired by the style of ancient and archaeological pieces and natural forms and aspire to having a very handmade, and 'just dug up' look. Most of the work has been hand forged but more recently Fi has employed the lost wax casting process and now also runs workshops. Vibrant colour plays a large part in both her painting, prints and jewellery. Having trained in Fine Art, she uses the studio to paint in and undertakes portrait commissions. Having a portrait painted of a loved one can be an excellent way to mark a special birthday or occasion. As with possible jewellery commissions she would be more than happy to discuss requirements and options. There are a selection of workshops which can be booked in her studio, based on jewellery making and painting. Workshops can be a fantastic way to learn a new skill or done as a group can be a wonderful experience.

“I’ve always held the belief that we are all creative beings, and that given the right conditions, everyone is able to explore their strengths and reach their full potential.” Inspired at a young age to pursue creative disciplines, Tina began her career as a design and fine arts teacher and tutor. Working in further education colleges in impoverished and crime-riddled neighborhoods in the UK, she quickly encountered the challenges inherent in supporting students that had complex needs. These were young people struggling with violence and trauma, drug and alcohol addiction, low self-esteem and, in some cases, undiagnosed neurodiversity. They struggled to learn in the same way as other students did and were often marginalized by an academic system that measures success solely through targets and standardized tests. Tina quickly realized that no matter the resources or skills of staff available, when individuals are not emotionally and psychologically stable, they simply cannot excel. Driven by a deep compassion and a struggle she could understand, having grown up with violence and unrecognized neurodiversity in her own family, Tina sought ways to create an environment where young people could thrive and flourish, access their strengths and develop confidence. “I’ve always believed that every individual has their own unique strengths and in the right environment every person can get to know what those strengths are.” Training in counselling for drug addiction and Neuro-Linguistic Programming provided a foundation for a more holistic approach. She saw the success that her students experienced when they felt supported in a safe haven; a stress-free space of true presence and non-judgment where they could explore themselves freely through their creative process and develop confidence.

Cornwall

Was born in Africa and lived in Lagos until her 9th birthday when her family moved back to the UK and more specifically Cornwall. Moving to Cornwall at such a key age shaped her passions and future in so many ways. Having always been in swimming pools and the sea in Africa the love of water intensified on the beautiful beaches and in the crashing Atlantic surf of the Cornish Coastline. The sea and its different moods have always been in her life. Being a keen surfer in her teens her love of playing in and with the elements became all encompassing when she discovered the thrill of kitesurfing. A pioneer in the early days of the sport she set up one of the first schools in the UK, and competed on the world circuit with her highest ranking being 3rd in the world. She also enjoyed other kiting challenges and set a world record by kitesurfing from Cornwall to Ireland ( under her maiden name Wharry), She discovered Glass by accident, through her landlady whilst studying at Falmouth art college, falling instantly in love with the look and the process of working with glass she decided to specialise in Architectural Stained Glass at Swansea. Though not actively working with glass during her sporting career, the fascination never left. Now retired from competition, glass is back as the focus of her passion. “Its colour, its reflections and translucent quality instantly captured my heart. To me it has a similar quality to water. It is enigmatic you can look at it, or through it. It is there and not there and can create a potent visual effect, either opulent or subtle. I love the challenge of designing for different buildings, interiors and people, whether a large architectural piece or an intensely personal small piece. “ Dreya

Originally from Russia, I lived in the UK since the late 1990s, making London my home and a place of infinite inspiration. I studied film history, gaining a PhD in the field of Soviet Holocaust cinema, while working with various film festivals and running my own cultural events production company. In 2014 after leaving my career in the arts sector, I launched KinoVino which rapidly gained recognition as one of the most original projects redefining London’s food scene. Since its launch I developed a bespoke event branch, hosted supper clubs under my own name exploring food from my native Russia and released my debut cookbook Salt and Time in 2019. My recipes are featured in The Guardian, Red Magazine, Olive Magazine, The Independent and House & Garden amongst other leading UK publications. While my events have been highlighted in Vogue, Elle, TimeOut, and I’ve been shortlisted for the Young British Foodie Awards in 2017. I’ve also had the honour of being listed at number one of the new voices in food by the Observer Food Magazine in February 2019, and having my cooking names a new trend for 2021 by Waitrose Magazine. Since 24 Feb 2022, I have started #CookforUkraine campaign using the language of food to raise awareness and funds for the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine right now. I have teamed up with my dear friend, Ukrainian chef, writer and activist, Olia Hercules, and the formidable team behind #CookforSyria to create a global movement to celebrate the food of Ukraine while providing the much needed humanitarian help vid UNICEF Emergency Relief Fund.
