LITTLE MUSIC STARS is a collaboration with close friend Jeanne Friedman and was born after they realized that they could offer something different to the ‘old fashioned’ pre school music programs that are out there today. Katie wanted to inject new life into traditional children’s songs whilst also writing new songs that make the LITTLE MUSIC STARS program stand out as being modern, memorable and easy to learn. She has really enjoyed devising the new program along with the song writing process. The original songs for LITTLE MUSIC STARS incorporate many different music genres throughout the curriculum. Katie’s classes have a strong emphasis on the children’s imagination through song and dance as well as making it relaxed and fun! Katie enjoyed a very successful musical theatre career in London’s West End along with tours across Great Britain and internationally for 25 years. She appeared as Mavis and Vera on several occasions in ‘Stepping Out’ the comedy play, in London’s west end in 2017. She lived in Los Angeles in 2011 with her son Samuel for 3 years where she developed and taught the curriculum and even teaching Sandra Bulloch and her son on a few occasions! In 2014 she returned back to the UK and started the LMS program here and selling her first franchise in 2018. LMS now has over 200 children coming to classes each week, is present at 6 pre schools and has been part of many many kids parties over the years. Little Music Stars is set for world domination in the next few years...watch out everybody!!

After 34 years working as a graphic designer/illustrator and photographer, I made a career change in 2018 to concentrate on my love of art, crafts, making and printing. Natural forms/plants, landscapes and architecture are my favourite subjects to work with but nothing is out of the question if it inspires me. Gel plate monoprinting allows me to work with all of these in various combinations, printing onto gift tags, envelopes, glass, wood, fabric and large format paper. I also eco-print using leaves, flowers and natural plant/vegetable dyes, but am also a big fan of using commercial small batch dyes for quick results with fabrics. The ‘making’ aspect of my work allows me to produce small bespoke items. Brooches are a favourite, with each one being hand painted and therefore a one-off (even if the colour way is similar). My latest are formed from a birch plywood base, which I choose to source externally rather than make myself, and therefore help to support another business. I also enjoy teaching and really love seeing others learn something new and take home the items and skills they have acquired.....hopefully with the inspiration to do more! The photography side of my work still ticks over in the background with images and items that I sell on Redbubble. I have also remained a contributor to online photo libraries including Dreamstime and Adobe Stock. Commissioned work is something I take on now and again when time allows. HOPE Bereavement Support began in 2013 when the visionary and founder, Ansa, realised that there needed to be a place of safety and inclusion for all mothers who had sadly lost a baby to miscarriage, stillbirth or at any other stage of their child’s life. What was sorely needed was an accessible place where everyone would be able to find comfort and support for their loss; not feel alone or ostracised. She had a vision where everybody – regardless of age, sex, religion, ethnicity or any other difference – had the ability to access mental health and emotional support for their loss. Ansa’s ambition came from a painful journey; she is the proud mother of 9 rainbow children. Her determination to succeed grew after she struggled to find a suitable support group after her losses. During her healing process she became more empowered and went back to study, changing her career path to become a qualified and registered counsellor and Training Consultant. There was at that time very limited multi-lingual counselling services available, and furthermore, it was very expensive and the clinical models applied did not feel culturally diverse or sensitive to BME therapeutic needs. HOPE Bereavement Support initially started with three trustees (the founder, a secretary and a treasurer) as a small constituted community group in Leeds, setting up bereavement support groups run by befrienders and volunteers for women and families to meet after suffering the loss of a child. Over 7 years on, the organisation is now running support services in Leeds, Bradford and London and specialises in all types of bereavement. We have a team of over 30 people consisting of qualified counsellors, coaches, an occupational therapist, clinical supervisors and many befrienders and volunteers. All staff members are based nationally in different parts of the UK working together remotely. When speaking and networking with other third sector and national organisations and their leaders, I was gratefully humbled for the respect given to our organisation in terms of what HOPE has to offer in fulfilling the need of our BAME communities access to mental health services in their own languages, and with our culturally inclusive person-centred approach towards each individual who accesses our services. Furthermore, I do not believe there is any other organisation that has achieved what we have in a short time as a Community Interest Company (CIC). This again is a testimony to the great BAME leaders from my board of directors, managers, supervisors and clinical practitioners that for me as a black leader I am proud to have alongside me as a driving force for HOPE. It feels like a lifetime ago when my career changed from the corporate field of working in the banking industry for 15 years of my life, I was able with my initiative and work ethic dedication to move up the management ladder to a customer service focused area manager role. So, therefore leading, motivating, coaching others from a leadership role comes very natural to me in my skill set as a CEO, but what really drives me is the passion and belief in compassion for all of humanity and this makes my job as CEO of HOPE very rewarding. From a personal development aspect I feel a winner as I am not only helping and giving back to my communities in the services that we provide in HOPE but also that I am helping my fellow BAME professionals nationwide who choose to join HOPE in their journey and development in furthering their career as BAME leaders within their respective fields of works. It has always been my mission statement as an individual and now as the head of the HOPE organisation that where possible I want to fight against stigma, shame, prejudice and racism in all its forms always with a heart full of compassion, love for humanity and kindness for all. V Learning Network is a charitable company originally set up in 2001 as the lead of a consortium created to deliver adult and young people mainstream funded education. The consortium was made up of independent training providers in the Third Sector throughout Devon and Cornwall. In August 2021, due to some changes in funding, the nature and focus of the company shifted slightly. We are used to working in a proactive and agile way so have been able to adapt, evolve and innovate, and continue to do so. To fit the growing needs of the business and to strengthen our brand identity, we have changed the company name to V Learning Network trading as Step into Learning – Step Into Learning will be the sole, public facing name used across all our touchpoints going forwards. We still offer young people mainstream funded education and we currently work with three charities and Community Interest Groups (The Outdoor Place, Transferable Skills Training, Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change), enabling them to deliver high quality training by providing sustainable funding. The funding allows our partners to offer a range of training opportunities and deliver quality programmes within Cornwall. Step Into Learning also delivers quality, in-house training, projects and services via its own training division. Step Into Learning is based in Launceston, Cornwall, however, our reach extends much further. We offer training across Devon and Cornwall and have the scope to cover any geographical location due to our flexible delivery – face to face, blended learning (mix of face to face and online) and online. Step Into Learning specialise in working with learners looking to open up new career pathways, or those looking to get back into work. We are committed to giving back to our local community: * SILC is our counselling service providing free, confidential counselling for the Launceston community. * Our community larder for Launceston opened in May 2022. The focus of the community larder is reducing food waste and giving local people access to nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste.
