My name is Sue Williamson, and I have loved dogs (and many other animals for that matter) as far back as I can remember. One of my first memories is laying under my Grandparents Belfast sink with my Auntie’s German Shepherd – Tara. When I was 4 years old, a relative gave me a little black poodle, called Tina. Tina was one of the reasons I wanted to work with dogs when I grew up. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way that got pushed to one side and I finished up working in administration. Working up from secretarial positions to administration management, I left employment in January 2016 to follow my childhood dream of working with animals, and in particular – dogs. After I lost Tina, I had to wait over 20 years to get another dog, although I interacted with dogs on a regular basis. My next dog was Kelly, a black collie cross. She was the most placid and loving dog. Since Kelly I have been guardian to six dogs two of whom I have had to say goodbye Kira my gorgeous black Labrador who we lost in 2018 due to a lung tumour, and Raffi, Lemon and White working cocker spaniel who was killed in a road accident in 2016. I currently have four dogs, Taz, a male black show cocker spaniel, – who was the reason I got a deeper interest in training and Tellington TTouch Training, Ritzi, a miniature parti Poodle (black and white), Chic, a brown miniature poodle, (pronounced Sheek), and new boy on the block Lemon Roan Working Cocker Spaniel Talis. I have done training with all my dogs, including basic obedience, gundog training, platform training and agility. I have competed at agility with both Taz (grade 5), and Kira (grade 3) and Raffi (Grade 4). Although I no longer participate in Agility, I have taken up Canine Hoopers with Talis and started to compete.

This was me 12 years ago, aged 16 and weighing 15 stone and 8 pounds. I battled with my weight for much of my childhood, averaging a weight gain of a stone a year. This had a significant and negative impact on my emotional wellbeing and I became very creative in my attempts to cover the embarrassment I felt about my physical presentation. Not only was my self- esteem on the floor, so was my confidence. I remember Fridays at school very well, it was the day we had swimming which meant having to expose my physical form in front of my peers which I found humiliating and difficult to deal with. This ended with me trying every trick in the book to avoid swimming including skiving and feigning illness. My weight issues impacted on my passion for golf too, during the summer months I continued to wear a jumper in an effort to hide my body. I tried to lose weight through yo-yo dieting, self-education and slimming pills but nothing seemed to work and I was left feeling de-motivated and with my self-confidence at an all-time low. By the time I reached young adulthood, I had become very frustrated with the way I looked and knew that it was preventing me from reaching my full potential in life and I accepted that I had to make changes. I plucked up the courage to join my local gym and have never looked back. It was hard initially, I felt I was being judged by my size and initially the embarrassment did not leave me. All summer I would be training in the gym doing a mixture of cardio, weights and circuit training, this was in addition to playing several rounds of golf each week. My aim was to stay active all summer and this strategy achieved results; pounds were dropping off each week and my confidence grew as a result, I was more confident with the girls and was able to go swimming without being self- conscious.

Krystal Roney-Smith APRN, MSN FNP Master Trainer, Owner Krystal Roney-Smith, M.S.N., RN, FNP-C, earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas School of Nursing at Tyler in 2004, and received a Master of Science in Nursing, graduating as a Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society member from Prairie View A&M University School of Nursing in Houston in 2015. She has been drawn to healthcare since childhood and became a nurse because she loved taking care of people. After 11 years of being a nurse in women’s services, Krystal decided she wanted to have a closer interaction with the community and earned a Master of Science in Nursing and became a nurse practitioner at Memorial Hermann Health System. It was after one year of working as a Family Nurse Practitioner she decided that she wanted to take a step further and started teaching as a professor at Chamberlain University. She was then trained by a board-certified plastic surgeon and learned aesthetics. Medical Aesthetics Education was developed after she encountered so many healthcare professionals struggling to get into the industry. She wanted to bridge the gap with her knowledge and injecting expertise. Also, she wanted to empower new injectors to get better at their skill with a mentorship program, which is not offered after most training courses. Krystal enjoys working as a nurse practitioner injector and training others to become the best. She is a perfectionist when it comes to her clients getting the best results. She considers her skills a form of artistry to enhance natural beauty. Krystal states that the biggest advantage of her role is the instant gratification, she takes pride in the boost of confidence that her clients receive. Recently, she has successfully launched her own full-scale spa, Lush RX, located in the Greater Area of Houston, Texas. She is excited to share her knowledge and help others become their best selves and possible entrepreneurs.

Our mission To provide accommodation and support that enables young people to step into a better future. Current offer We provide supported lodgings for young people (including care leavers, those at risk of homelessness, unaccompanied asylum seekers and young parents). These are nurturing places, in host homes, that include exceptional levels of wrap-around support (for hosts and young people) and are founded on a therapeutic approach that is based in research and understands trauma. We do this generally, though not exclusively, through hosts from local churches. Our history The roots of Concrete Rose Collective CIC can be traced back long before its establishment as a Community Interest Company in 2020 and in particular to 20 years of support for marginalised young people by our founder Mike Farrington (see ‘Our People’ for more details). Increasingly evident over this time was the need to proactively respond to two priority areas essential in enabling young people to thrive: Accommodation: The need to provide safe, loving, and professionally supported accommodation options particularly in the area of semi-independent living enabling young people to successfully navigate the transition from home (or care) to adulthood. Education: The need for educational provision that focusses on character and emotional intelligence and where a range of talents and aspirations can be expressed and nurtured. The name comes from a poem and an audio extract from the hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur. Elements of both are written below and eloquently capture the tremendous resilience and tenacity that many young people have already shown in overcoming traumatic starts to life that may include abuse, childhood trauma and community dysfunction. It also echoes the notion that such trauma inevitably creates hurt, scars and the odd prickly spike but that, with some key ingredients, the outcome can be something of striking beauty that defies the past, points to the future, and beautifies the world. I deliver quirky, unusual art and craft workshops in a number of local crafting venues across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. I can also bring Quirkshops to any suitable venue and tailor the workshop to the specific needs of a client. The workshops typically last between 2 – 6 hours, occasionally more in-depth workshops may be held over a number of weeks. My background. I have always been creative but from an early age I had to choose between a scientific and artistic career. Having spent most of my childhood holidays in Devon with my head dangling over a pontoon staring into the green-blue depths and the curious creatures within, it seemed natural for me to study marine biology (you get the octopus logo now!). A convoluted route led me through a PhD studying marine neurotoxins to a career in Public Health for 18 years. But I always wanted to create. I took a year out and started to volunteer at a local community farm, FarmEco, a magical place with the most amazing people. That is where things fell together: connecting with nature, creativity and my desire to help people to improve their wellbeing. I can often be found at the farm, hands covered in charcoal or paint and looking windswept and with a smile on my face. Nature and wellbeing. I am passionate about the benefits to our wellbeing that creativity can bring and to combine this with immersing yourself in nature can be a powerful tonic. Many of my workshops take place entirely outdoors, spending time not just creating in but connecting with nature through simple practices which awaken the senses. By connecting with nature we develop a desire to care for nature and that is something we desperately need in this time of climate crisis. Workshops. The focus of the workshops is to nurture creative talent in everyone through a wide range of art and craft skills. The experiences are shared in a group but will be unique and personal (people won’t all produce the same thing at the end) and the process is every bit as important as the things that people produce.
