The Campion School aims to be an outstanding Roman Catholic school with a strong and united community in which everyone contributes to the school’s religious and educational objectives. The school was established by the Society of Jesus in 1962 and it bears the name of one of the most famous English Jesuits who was martyred for the Faith in 1581, Edmund Campion, S.J. The school has developed its own distinctive Catholic ethos and traditions, building on those first endowed upon it by the Jesuits. It seeks to draw on the long-established Jesuit educational ideals of a Catholic community in which endeavour and opportunity lead students to the highest levels of achievement. The most recent Diocesan and Ofsted inspections described the school as an ‘outstanding Catholic school’ and a ‘good school with many outstanding features’. We are proud of our successes and have ambitious plans to develop and improve the school further. “Success and personal endeavour are encouraged, rewarded and celebrated. There is a strong ethos of not only wanting to do well but about being proud of doing so.” We have a long-standing tradition of providing a rich and varied curriculum to stimulate and interest students. Each individual is given the appropriate support to achieve their full potential. For example, students who are particularly gifted or talented may be offered courses operated by the London Borough of Havering and during lessons they are often given extension work to stretch and challenge. In 2019, our Year 11 students achieved excellent GCSE results, with 89% achieving grade 4 and above in English and mathematics. Furthermore, 43% of students achieved the EBacc. The numbers achieving two good grades in science and at least one good grade in a modern foreign language are also very high by local and national comparisons.

Southend Adult Community College (SACC) is Southend Borough Council’s provider of adult education, providing education and training to more than 5,000 learners. SACC provides 100s of part-time leisure courses, English, maths, employability courses, traineeships, vocational qualifications, CPD and industry specific training for adults and for young people 16+ apprenticeships and full-time vocational programmes. SACC provides community outreach provision and family learning in local community venues and employee training and assessment on employer premises. SACC has three activity centres, its main Southchurch Centre, an adult centre at Belfairs Academy in Leigh and a specialist centre for young adults with complex and profound learning difficulties and disabilities in Westcliff. At our last Ofsted inspection, SACC was judged for the second time as a good college with outstanding features. Key findings are: • success rates have improved over the last few years and many are well above national rates • learners develop good practical, vocational and employability skills. They make good progress in developing these skills • learners on study programmes do well. The college has made a significant contribution to reducing the number of young people in the borough who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) • staff are particularly effective at finding good work placements for learners on employability programmes. These placements relate directly to learners’ aims and provide good workplace experience • teachers use their professional skills and knowledge well to help learners relate their studies to the world of work and gain employment or promotion • staff, at all levels, create good partnerships with a range of agencies. They use these partnerships well to help learners develop a range of useful skills • leaders work well to create, and monitor the effectiveness of a curriculum that meets the needs of learners and the local community.

Concept is a newly-formed, independent group, not beholden to any larger concern. The leaders of the group are themselves deeply involved in private education and owe their livelihood to it. The group was born out of the conviction that private education is a force for good, but that, as in everything, there is room for improvement. How will that improvement happen? Primarily by listening. By listening - to why parents spend money on education for their children. What do they really want out of it - certainly not a mediocre result. By listening - to what the pupils themselves want from their schooling - of course it is exam grades which they know are the price of entry to a good university (and there are a growing number which are not good) or to a satisfying career, but what else do they want? By listening - to employers - what sort of people will they be looking to recruit into the companies of the future? By listening - to the worthwhile commentators who cast their minds forward to see the way in which the world is changing all around us, every day. In the lifetime of our children, standing still will be moving backwards. By listening - attentively, with our heads and with our hearts, we aim to provide schools and schooling that is consequential, and in being so recognises that children enjoy their lives when they see a purpose in their learning. In striving to achieve this, we will also be looking closely at ways of halting the apparently inexorable rise in fees for private education, with the result that over time a greater number of families will be in a position to choose the independent option.

The Trainings/Workshops bring together the Project Coordinating Units; the Beneficiary/Implementing Agencies and the Sector Agencies for “Competence& Skills Transfer” or “Capacity Building& Development” (CPD). Over the years, our Training & Workshop Business has focused on specific “Knowledge Areas” and “Markets”, hence our slogan – “Building Capacity in Donor Funded Projects”. Overtime, our engagements have evolved into what we now refer to as “SOLUTIONS BASED WORKSHOPS”. In that, we attempt to provide solutions, to the challenges faced by our clients, through Training & Workshop rather than Consulting. This has made our engagements “Tailored” or “Customised” to the client’s project, circumstances and needs. It tends to take more of a “Workshop” format than “Training” by the end of which, Knowledge and Competences are shared and gained. Participants tend to leave with some sort of “OUTLINE PLAN / FRAMEWORK” at least mentally, for the solution of their recognised needs.

About the chief instructor Gursharan Sahota was born in Kenya, East Africa but moved to the UK at the age of 12. He took up Karate at the age of 14 in the local Bedford club and was awarded black belt 1st dan (shodan) four years later. Now an 8th Dan, Gursharan has competed in a multitude of kata and kumite events, many at national and international level. But the most significant event in his career was the visit he made in 1984 to Japan. There, he fulfilled a great ambition by training in a Japanese dojo under the instruction of Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa. This experience proved to be a turning point for Gursharan. On his return to England, he realised the trip had been the inspiration he needed to dedicate his future to training and teaching karate as a way of life. Gursharan’s first club was opened in Luton/Dunstable in 1981 and this is now the association’s hombu (HQ). Having been a teacher of the art for many years, he formed his own association in 1993 – TISKA (The Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association) which is now one of the biggest associations in the UK. Gursharan’s love of karate has never diminished. He still teaches over 35 classes a week in the UK and regularly takes master classes internationally. All in all, he has brought hundreds of students of all ages up to black belt standard and beyond. He is also involved in charity work, helping to subsidise trips for surgeons to third world countries to operate on underprivileged children. He has, for many years, funded many projects in India, and is at present helping to fund the building of a new school.

Created in 1998 on the initiative of His Hon George Dobry CBE QC to fulfil a growing need for support, advice and training to young lawyers from countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Foundation was named after Lord Slynn of Hadley, formerly the British judge at the European Court of Justice and then a law lord, in recognition of his contribution to the development of the principles and practice of European Law in its broadest sense. Between 1999 and 2004, under the leadership of Lord Slynn, the Foundation organised two-day or three-day workshops, mainly in the ten states which were to join the European Union in 2004. These workshops were mostly concerned with EU law and practice, but some of them touched on human rights law. There were also mutual exchange visits, funded by the former British Association for Central and Eastern Europe, between senior judges and senior court administrators in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria and their counterparts in this country. In addition the Foundation organised a prestigious annual lecture on a Europe-related topic, and brought one young lawyer each year to London for nine months for a mix of experience gained from attending academic lectures, working in City solicitors’ firms and barristers’ chambers and meeting senior members of the judiciary. Because public funding for these activities dried up after 2004 and the Foundation was unable to secure alternative sources of funds, its activities were steadily reduced between 2004 and 2009 (the year when Lord Slynn died).However since 2009, the Foundation has widened its purpose, and is steadily reasserting its influence as the principal exporter of British judicial know how to an international audience.

I am Hungarian, born in Romania but raised in Hungary and now living in Ireland for over 15 years. I’ve traveled around the world more than I ever dreamed of. 😊 I studied to be a textile engineer but never worked in my field. Hoping for a better life I came to Ireland. With the challenge of not having native English, building a life (in a new country) came many new experiences and learnings. There were moments when I wanted to give up! But instead, slowly from being a cleaner, I worked myself up to become a Data Analyst and Project manager in the corporate world. Growing and learning has always motivated me, so I have read books, taken courses and started my journey in self-development. Financially I achieved what I was only dreaming of when I set foot in Ireland. I had my house, car, great job (which I enjoyed but didn’t love), supportive friends and my loving family in Hungary. But something was missing.. Specifically with dating and relationships, in life, I’ve had some struggles! I lost all trust in men and completely closed off afterwards. There were difficult times and there were good times. Even when I was independent and content, there was definitely something missing. I hoped to find a partner, someone who I trusted and felt safe with. I wanted to fix ME, to be able to create that fulfilled life I dreamed of with a loving partner.
