Having worked in social care since college, Able Hands Together Founder Laura Tween focussed her work on adults with learning disabilities. After completing her law degree it soon became apparent that the average office environment wasn’t the space for her. She became a social care consultant, and it was through this work that she found her creative energy and passion for community projects was highly suited to being a social entrepreneur. Whilst delivering social care, Laura found that most therapeutic activities for people, like cinema or bowling, were entirely non-skills building. Laura wanted to create an offering where they could learn new skills, build their independence and work on emotional well-being simultaneously. A therapeutic farm service ticked all these boxes. Able Hands Together was established in 2015. The role of the Co-Farmer was soon born, to assist with day to day farm work, building employability, interpersonal skills, independence, and self esteem. Both staff and Co-Farmers work together to care for the animals, & plan and maintain the smallholding to make the most of the growing season. We have just had the exciting news that Able Hands Together has been approved as an Alternative Education Centre by Wiltshire County Council for Co-Farmers aged 18 and over. Laura is immensely proud of Able Hands Together and welcomes you to get in touch. She promotes our Co-Farmers’ independence and works with a skills based approach with our clients. Carl Anderson Carl Anderson Team Member Carl is an ex-member of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. He brings a wealth of skills-based services to the farm. If something needs to be built, Carl’s the man to do it! Our Co-Farmers love helping him to construct and build everything, from goat gates to raised vegetable beds. All staff that support our Co Farmers have DBS checks, are employed with their employment history and references checked. They are trained in safeguarding, Health and Safety and Equality and Diversity. Staff receive ongoing supervision and have access to further training.

Escape Dance Academy and Performing Arts was Established in 2015, by Ashleigh and Nicole Archbold & And has now opened its doors to its very own studios 10/9/16 Both teachers have been involved in dance from the early age of 3 in which they have dedicated themselves to the profession. Ashleigh has a BSc Sport & Exercise Science Degree in which she studied Physiology, Anatomy, Biomechanics, Psychology and Nutrition all in which is envitable in helping towards creating successfull dancers. Nicole is also currently studying at University in which she is studying BA Honours Degree in Dance. We at Escape are dedicated to providing the highest level of teaching possible. Both teachers currently hold teaching qualifications with the United Kingdom Alliance and are also part of the ADFP - a board dedicated to overseeing Disco Freestyle. From a young age the teachers have also competed in many comeptitions, winning many titles all over Great Britain & Ireland, including The World Championships, Great British Championships, The European Championships, DKKQ at the Blackpool Tower and many more. They have also taken numerous dance exams in many different dance styles. As well as this, they have performed in shows and Pantomines in many theatres including The Liverpool Empire, The Royal Court & The London Palladium to name just a few. About We believe the future needs people-centred designers to make the world a better place. A brief history of Design Club 2021 2020 2019 2018 2017 2022 Slow start to the year after a pre-Christmas rise in Covid cases. With heavy (but hopeful) hearts, we made the decision to shift focus. Our new strategy is to create a curated directory of design tools for kids - products, projects and programmes that get kids doing design and design thinking. 2021 We're rebooting! Looking for Reboot Supporters to fund 2021/2022 activity. We've learned a lot from our first remote after school Design Club. And partnered with Multiverse and Future to reach new audiences, online and IRL. 2020 We started the year with new after school clubs in Coventry, Haslemere and Woking, and exciting plans for weekend clubs, but we had to hit pause due to Covid. We experimented with online delivery and invited parents to run design projects at home. Bright spots: Elsewhen ran a remote club and we got a bit of funding from Grant for the Web (which enabled us to think about how to reboot Design Club. 2019 We supported mentors to run 15 after school clubs, including the first Design Clubs outside London, in Blackpool and Dundee. You can Meet the mentors on our blog. Our weekend squad ran pop-up clubs at Science Museum, Kingston University and MozFest. Reached 500 children and had more than 800 people register an interest in mentoring. Started hosting peer-led Meetups and recognised our Super Mentors. Won funding from The Funding Network. And Growth Supporters helped us grow. 2018 We set up as a Community Interest Company in April. We're limited by guarantee, meaning all profits go back into growing Design Club. Founding supporters came on board. Reached more than 500 children through a mix of after school and weekend clubs. Ran our first mentor Meetups and got accepted as one of Makerversity's Makers with a Mission. Partnered with BMJ, WIRED and Token Dad to try new formats. 2017 We piloted our first after school Design Club. Reached over 150 children through a network of 50 volunteers. Partnered with Marvel and Moo to develop the learning experience. Partnered with CoderDojo and iOi to deliver weekend Design Clubs. Partnered with British Council to deliver Design Thinking mentor training. How Design Club is free We're a Community Interest Company limited by Guarantee This means we're a non-profit. Aeryn Priyanu , Employment Consultant Aeryn has always had an interest in language and communication. Starting her early career in teaching English as a foreign language, she went on to shadow a Speech and Language Therapist and this started her interest in working with people on the autism spectrum. She worked in primary schools as a Learning Support Assistant then moved on to work for the National Autistic Society in a day centre. Aeryn started off as a Support Worker, moving up to become Deputy Manager of the day service. She supported individuals in their daily life and helped them gain work experience and vocational skills. As well as working as a consultant with AS Mentoring, Aeryn works in a college for young people with autism, facilitating individuals with functional and social aspects of life, supporting students to meet their targets and maintain long life independent living skills. Photo of Alan Alan Castellaro, Employment Consultant Alan's interest in Autism began when he attended St Andrew's primary school in Chinnor, Oxfordshire, one of the first schools in the country to teach Autistic children one to one. In 2009 he volunteered on a project for Kith and Kids supporting a young man with Autism and they have remained in regular contact ever since. He then worked for 4 years with Dimensions as an Assistant Service Manager of a residential home for adults with severe physical disabilities and Autism. For the last 4 years he has worked for Ambitious About Autism starting off as a Learning Behaviour Specialist and moving up to become a Learning Support Co-ordinator, and was instrumental in helping set up Ambitious College, London's first College for young adults with Autism. He has a BA Hons in Writing and Publishing and has a rich and varied employment history to draw upon. Photo of Alice Alice Mitra-Hall, Employment Consultant Alice previously worked for The National Autistic Society where she ran a Day Centre and facilitated a weekly social group. During this time Alice supported adults on the spectrum to develop their independent living and social skills, as well as supporting service users to apply for and attend college and work schemes, CV writing and interview practice. Alice has a BA Hons degree in Psychology and has also worked in a number of schools supporting teenagers with autism and has provided specialist individualised support for a family for over 10 years. Photo of Amira Amira Hassan, Employment Consultant Amira has been a mentor at AS Mentoring for 4 years. Amira has a variety of clients for both workplace and job-seeking support. After completing her PhD in Neuroscience from Imperial College London, Amira decided to be involved with AS Mentoring full time and is currently managing the Workshops Programme, overseeing the development and online delivery of workshops and group events throughout the year. Amira is warm and friendly, providing individual, autism-specific support and advice. Photo of Anna Anna Roads, Employment Consultant Anna spent 24 years in the investment management sector, working in sales, marketing, product development and client relationships for a number of blue chip firms including Lazards, Fidelity and Goldman Sachs. She developed successful business relationships with large corporates, consultancies and public sector organisations. In her leadership roles, she also enjoyed coaching and developing careers for younger team members. These are skills and contacts she brings to ASM clients. Over the past 6 years she has developed a number of voluntary roles; relaunched the local NAS branch as Chair (2011-2015), served on a local parents special needs forum (2012-2014), been elected a parent governor at a special needs school and worked as a volunteer mentor on a Research Autism Project. Her focus has been on education and now employment, both as a parent of a young person with ASC and through the influence of autistic colleagues she has served with before. Before joining the City, she gained a law degree from Cambridge University, an MBA from Cranfield Business School and qualified as a solicitor. Photo of Charlotte Charlotte Leighton, Employment Consultant Charlotte specialises in providing workplace support for individuals as well as working with organisations to provide autism specific support and advice. This experience has been honed through her work at ASM and her previous role as an Employment Support worker and trainer at The National Autistic Society. Charlotte has subsequently worked for HAIL in Haringey for two years managing social enterprises staffed entirely of employees with autism and learning disabilities. She has also worked as an Appropriate Adult supporting vulnerable individuals whilst in police custody. For the past ten years Charlotte has confidently designed and delivered social skills groups and workshops for adults with autism. As well as working for ASM she is also employed part-time for Resources for Autism in Barnet managing their adult services. Charlotte is able to support individuals emotionally as well practically as she holds certificates in Person Centered counselling and a diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. David Perkins, Director David was Head of Services at Prospects, the National Autistic Society's specialist employment service, from 2007 – 2013; he left in June 2013 to set up AS Mentoring. He has extensive experience of supporting people with an ASC into employment across the UK and abroad, and of providing a wide range of training, assessment and consultancy services to employers and other organisations in the UK, Europe and the US. He has worked continuously with people with autism since the early 1980s. David has spent the bulk of his working life in the voluntary sector and prior to the NAS spent many years running a group of specialist adventure playgrounds in London for over 1200 disabled children, (some 30% of whom were autistic). He has a BSc (Hons) in Operational Research from Lancaster University. Photo of Emma Emma Hills, Employment Consultant Emma has been teaching psychology and health related subjects to adults since 2009 with the majority of her work focusing on providing social purpose education in the community to hard-to-reach groups, including those with disabilities. Much of her work focuses on supporting learners through transition and has led her to develop herself as a coach as well as an educator. More recently she has found herself key-working with learners with disabilities in a transition college as well as training and supervising the staff who support them. Emma mentors and tutors a diverse range of learners including learners on the autism spectrum in her continuing work in the community. Emma works part-time as an Employment Consultant with ASM and finds her knowledge and experience gained from facilitating community courses such as 'confidence building', 'communication skills' or 'interviewing skills' compliments the role well. She has a BSc Hons Psychology, PG-dip Social research, PGCE in post-compulsory education and is a registered health and social care trainer as well as a full member of the Association for Coaching. Emma is also currently studying for an MA in Education: Culture and Identity, at Goldsmith university. Photo of Eve Eve Riches, Employment Consultant Eve Riches is an employment consultant for AS Mentoring, where she provides one to one support and workshop creation and delivery. Eve has a background in teaching Psychology and has been involved in mentoring for her whole career. She has a lifetime of lived experience of neurodiversity. Outside of ASM, Eve works as a life coach and mentor. Photo of Gurleen Gené Wyrley-Birch, Employment Consultant Gené is committed to raising awareness and understanding of ASC to improve social inclusion, acceptance and understanding; to making a real difference to the lives of people on the autism spectrum and in broader society. Over the past 12 years, while caring for and advocating for her son, Gené has developed an in-depth knowledge and understanding of autism as well as related challenges including ADHD, PDA, Social Communication Disorder and Sensory Processing Disorder. She has a creative, positive and flexible approach and is determined to combined her personal and professional experiences to help clients into work and successfully retain their jobs. Throughout her previous roles in both Investment Banking at JP Morgan and UBS Warburg and Commercial Conferencing, Gené had an active role in recruiting, training and mentoring new team members. Gené has worked across many sectors, including Finance, Pharmaceuticals, Defence, Utilities, Aviation and Telecommunication. Gené Holds a BA degree in Industrial & Organisational Sociology and Industrial & Organisational Psychology from the University of Cape Town. Photo of Gurleen Georgia Thursting, Employment Consultant Georgia has worked with autistic adults and children in a variety of settings including education, play and social settings for the past year. As a support worker with Resources for Autism, she continues to support her clients in achieving their personal and work goals and loves to get creative with her approach. Georgia also works for Share Community in Battersea as a music tutor/ therapist, building the confidence of adults through music and artistic expression. She also enjoys planning and delivering online workshops for adults with Autism, focusing on well-being, physical health and emotional expression through music making. Outside of her work in Autism, is a trained musician, singer/ guitarist and enjoys performing at events across the UK. Photo of Gurleen Gurleen Manku, Regional Employment Consultant Gurleen has 18 years' experience of autism. She has a sibling on the spectrum, and has previously worked in primary education for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), and has been a SEN Secondary School Govenor. In 2015 Gurleen volunteered at Autism West Midlands to support adults with autism to find employment. She then worked for Enable, Shropshire Council as a Job Coach in various workplaces supporting adults with autism and learning disabilities. Gurleen is highly experienced in delivering Pre-employment support, mentoring and Workplace support at AS Mentoring across the West Midlands since 2015. Gurleen holds a BSc in Business Psychology and is a member of the British Psychological Society, within the Division of Occupational Psychology. She has also completed her Masters in Occupational Psychology. Photo of Gurleen Mahlia Amatina, Employment Consultant Diagnosed with autism as an adult, Mahlia has first-hand experience of the challenges that can arise from a range of workplace settings, but more importantly; how to overcome these. Outside of AS Mentoring, Mahlia works as a visual artist, where she raises awareness and understanding of neurodiversity through different art forms. With a special interest in autism and work, Mahlia is keen to combine lived workplace experience with her mentoring skills as an employment consultant to support clients. Photo of Helen Mark Blake, Employment Consultant Mark has a broad range of experience across social care with several client groups and in varied settings. Following an arts degree he spent a couple of years on voluntary projects with disabled adults living independently, and with homeless men in an emergency night shelter in central London with subsequent paid roles including community support work with disabled adults moving back into the community following long periods in residential hospitals. Mark has also spent time as a residential care worker in adolescent residential units. The last 30 years has seen a focus on Adults and Children with Disabilities in a both a Day Service and Residential Home setting. As a Manager of services in these fields Mark has increasingly focused his support to children and adults on the autistic spectrum and has become keenly aware of the challenges faced by them and their families in achieving independence and realizing their potential. It is this interest that has led to an involvement in a mentoring role with AS mentoring and employment. Photo of Helen Mike Leat, Employment Consultant Mike comes from a background in advocacy, design and communication. Through his own business he previously ran an Easy Read design service which employed people with a learning disability and autism. In 2015 he co-produced a DVD on Autism and Mental Health for the Autism Partnership Board in Surrey. Mike previously worked for The National Autistic Society Assist service providing one to one support/mentoring sessions, and facilitating social and support groups for autistic adults. After completing an undergraduate module in autism with The Open University, Mike went on to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Autism and Asperger syndrome. Mike also works with a project called ‘Autism by Experience’ which is a team of mostly autistic adults providing Understanding Autism training to staff in a variety of roles including health and social care. Photo of Laura Lauren Moore, Employment Consultant Lauren has a number of years experience of supporting people with autism as well as additional needs. Her main influence for working with people on the spectrum is her younger sibling who was diagnosed with autism at a young age. Over the past decade she has worked in a school specifically of young people with social, emotional and mental health difficulties, starting as a Teaching Assistant and then working as the Intervention Co-ordinator for the secondary department. Lauren also worked in a specialist autism college as a Learning and Behaviour Specialist, moving up to become a Learning Support Co-ordinator. She studied History at undergraduate level and has more recently graduated with a Masters in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in July 2018. Photo of Rachel Rachel Pearson, Senior Regional Employment Consultant Following a successful 13-year career in the City Rachel moved into HR and Business Consultancy specialising in organisation restructuring projects involving (often large scale) job review, recruitment and redundancy programmes. She has extensive experience of working with SME employers and large organisations in the public and private sectors around all aspects of the employment relationship. Rachel previously volunteered with the National Autistic Society's Prospects Team and she now works as an employment consultant specialising in supporting people with an ASC to find and retain work. She also works with the NAS's Employment Training and Adult Services Teams supporting students and employees, and providing advice and guidance to employers. With a close family member on the autistic spectrum, Rachel also volunteers with her local NAS branch in Surrey. She holds an MSc in Human Resource Management and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development. Photo of Siobhan Siobhan Pauley, Employment Consultant Siobhan has first-hand experience of supporting someone with Asperger’s Syndrome and ADHD as her son has moved through various life transitions, experiencing the hurdles faced by people on the autistic spectrum. She spent 30 years working within Human Resources of a large financial institution attaining her MCIPD status, where she became the company’s Reasonable Adjustment Officer. It was her responsibility to ensure that employees with disabilities were able to receive the right workplace accommodations to enable them to access various roles in the company. This has given her considerable insight to enable her to support our clients. Following a career move, Siobhan is setting up AS Mentoring services in and around Poole, Dorset- as well as working part time to support an individual with profound learning difficulties within an independent living service.

Tenacious. Terrific. Trustworthy. Truthful. And sometimes Trouble. When you ask my family, friends and coworkers about me, they will probably list these attributes. Or qualities. For good and for bad. I am the only child to my mother Grace and my father Ken who met in Blackpool, England during the Second World War, which means much of my family resides in England. Including my daughter who met my son-in-law during her junior year abroad at Oxford University. I grew up not knowing that my mother had an accent, never understanding the difference between English and American terminology so that even today I will say a word and people will look perplexed, and I realize I am using the English word and not the American one. I’m an only child because my parents decided traveling back to England would be very difficult with more children. My father made a point to keep me from being spoiled which was a double-edged sword because his lack of praise left me with a feeling that I had to try twice as hard as anyone else just to keep up. The end result is one very motivated woman, and I constantly seek continued learning and new challenges. My first words were undoubtedly “When are you going to give me a horse?” and thus Patience Prize and I became a team when I was 14. My father once again made sure I knew the horse was not to be taken for granted when he said, “Now you’ve got a horse, you’d better get a job. And you won’t be paid for mowing the lawn anymore.” My love of animals produced my first job at the local veterinarians cleaning up cages and feeding animals. One small dog had broken her two front legs, was terribly vicious, and no one could touch her. After her surgery she was crammed up in a corner while still asleep, and I moved her into a more comfortable position and, of course, petted her and spoke to her. After that I was the only one who could open her cage and touch her without getting bitten. She must have known my smell. Years passed and I became both a photojournalist and regular journalist with local Berkshire County Massachusetts newspapers. When I returned to college to complete my bachelor’s degree, my journalism provided me with life experience credits and thus I completed my BA in English. What to do next? I had student loans, so I needed either grad school or a second job. My daughter waitressed at a local restaurant open only on weekends and they said they needed a dishwasher, so she said, “My brother needs a job.” Then they asked, “So who else do you have at home?” and she said, “My mom.” Thus, I tried the second job routine as a waitress. We served wine in long-stemmed glasses and carried them on a tray. During one shift I was at a table of two women and the tray started to tilt, and I couldn’t stop it! So, I stood there and watched the wine glasses crash down on the table and splash everywhere. It was not a happy time for all involved. So, I said, “That’s it, I’m going to grad school.” I took my daughter and son to see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, we ate at the Russian Tea Room, and I told them they couldn’t bug me for two years. The non-traditional program at Vermont College of Norwich University was a full-time program so I had a full-time job, a full-time grad school program, a son in high school and a daughter in college. During my internship I worked 7:00 a.m. to noon, drove to Albany, New York (a one-hour drive one way), worked at a public relations firm from 1:00 to 6:00 and stopped at the restaurant where my two offspring worked about 7:00 for a glass of wine and a light dinner. Then I realized I didn’t have time to clean the bathroom, so I hired a cleaning lady (very inexpensive in a small town back then) and decided that was an expense associated with grad school. That was a valuable decision. The downside of a small town is that a master’s degree doesn’t allow for many jobs at a living wage. I decided I would move. After networking for several years and finding a church in Washington, DC I moved to northern Virginia on October 2, 1999, never having lived more than 6 miles from where I was born. I got a job the second day. I bought a house that January and a horse, Sonny Madison, in January 2001 and have never regretted my choice or looked back. At some point in 2018 I found Her Nexx Chapter and started writing for them. It provides me with a chance to get in touch with my creative style since my most prevalent job has been a technical writer. Now I’m also the Editorial Project Director and a member of the Advisory Board. It’s a tremendous value to women everywhere, and I always enjoying learning something new and sharing my blogs with the community. So here I am. I’m still horseback riding and trying to keep fit. I try to look for the positive side of life even in times of turmoil – notice I said “try” because sometimes life gets to be a tad difficult. But that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Richard Morris is a British racing driver and is currently a works driver for Revolution Race Cars competing in the European Sports Prototype Cup. He is also the creator of the Racing Pride movement to positively promote LGBTQ+ inclusion through motorsport. Richard’s racing career began in 2004 in Junior TKM karting, before progressing through Senior TKM from 2007, and in 2011 he moved into the supremely fast 250-gearbox class, establishing himself as one of the leading drivers at British Championship level. This culminated in him taking 2nd in the English Championship and 3rd in the British Open Championship for 250-gearbox karts in 2016. A former international fencer for England and Great Britain, and a B.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. graduate of Cambridge University, Richard turned his full sporting attention to motorsport when he stepped up into car racing in 2017. For the 2017 season Richard entered the competitive Formula Ford 1600 single-seater category at Castle Combe circuit, driving for the Swift Cooper team in their 1992 Swift SC92 chassis and racing in Class B. Richard announced himself immediately, qualifying on pole position for his very first car race. A podium finish followed at his second meeting, and he took his first win at only his third meeting, which was also the first time he had driven the car in wet conditions. 8 pole positions and 4 wins from just 9 races followed in a successful season. In 2018 Richard continued to rise, joining the BRSCC Formula Ford 1600 National Championship with Swift Cooper. Richard took 2nd place in his class in the National Championship, again with 4 wins. Richard first tested a sports prototype car with Spire Sports Cars at Donington Park in November 2018. After an impressive test, Richard was offered the opportunity to race the team’s latest GT3s prototype in the RGB Sports 1000 Championship for the 2019 season. Two highly successful seasons followed in which Richard racked up 15 podium finishes from 22 races. In 2019 Richard was crowned Sports 1000 Vice Champion in his debut year of prototype racing and in a part season (due to Covid) in 2020 he claimed wins at 3 out of the 4 race meetings he contested and set a new lap record at Snetterton. In 2021 Richard raced the Praga R1T in the Britcar British Endurance Championship with CWPerformance. The Championship enjoys a large following, TV exposure, and features cars from many of motorsport’s most prestigious brands such as Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, and Lamborghini. Richard and his teammate Christopher Wesemael won more races and had more podium finishes than any other driver pairing, taking 3 wins and 6 podiums from 9 races. In January 2022 Richard signed as a works driver for Revolution Race Cars. He will race in the 2022 Sports Prototype Cup, which will be contested across 5 iconic Grand Prix circuits in 5 different countries, as well as undertaking test, driver coaching, and demonstration work for Revolution.

In this digital age there is more competition for our attention than ever before. This has a knock on impact on our lives as where we place our attention determines what we experience and how we feel... I, Alex La Via, was inspired to set up Live More Offline after noticing the impact of digital technology in my work and home life. Digital wellness is about using technology in a way that brings us closer to the things and people we value rather than being distracted away from our goals. Examples of unhelpful digital habits can be the extra episode of Netflix which leaves us feeling tired the next day, digital notifications that get in the way of focused work or scrolling time away yet feeling we don't have the time for the things we love. I am passionate about helping people to create a relationship with technology that is on their terms and creates the life they want! Alex La Via The Live More Offline approach is rooted in the evidence base of mindfulness and neuroscience. Drawing on research emerging on the impact of digital technology on focus, memory, creativity, empathy, wellbeing and sleep, to name just a few areas. I have experienced the 'always on' culture first-hand, within my corporate career, and understand the challenges of managing the blurred line between work and home life. In addition, I noticed my greatest challenge with technology on relocating to Yorkshire in early 2018 and being between jobs. At this time, I started spending more time on social media and Netflix. After noticing the impact on my life, I took the bold decision to disconnect from digital technology by flying to Spain and walking 500 miles on the Camino de Santiago. Spending six weeks walking in nature and disconnecting from digital technology, I felt energised, healthy and inspired. This led me to question how to get the right balance back at home. From this moment, I have undertaken academic research and furthered my training into the impact that digital technology is having on wellbeing and creating the lives we want. I now bring this combination of personal experience and knowledge to empower others to find a balance with digital technology which supports their goals and the life they want to live.
