Mind in West Essex supports people affected by mental ill health, predominantly across West Essex to make positive changes in their lives and to improve their emotional resilience. We also aim to normalise the conversation around mental health and in doing so reduce the stigma that can be a barrier to people accessing the support that could help them to improve their quality of life. We provide a range of services in order to help us deliver on these aims, these include: counselling as part of the NHS psychological therapies service; a private counselling service; Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training; emotional resilience training; peer support; befriending to reduce isolation; bereavement work and community support. In addition to the above client facing services we also run a Mental Health Referral Triage service on behalf of West Essex CCG. This service processes all GP mental health referrals across West Essex and passes them on to the relevant provider. We have an active presence on social media platforms as part of our efforts to normalise mental health and engage with the public in a way that is accessible to a wide range of people. We are an independent, local, registered charity (Charity number 1091154) with a board of trustees drawn from the communities that we serve. We also affiliate to the national charity Mind; this means that we are part of a network of 140 other local Mind charities. The services we provide are delivered by a team of 34 staff and 60 volunteers. We’re Mind in West Essex, your expert mental health partner. Our network across England and Wales provide services that are practical and rooted in the reality of people’s lives.

Emma Decent is based in the north west of England and has been writing and performing for over 15 years. Emma’s latest project is I Don’t Know What I’m Supposed To Be Doing, a new autobiographical show about herself and her mother. Her first solo show was Beyond Dreams of Aberystwyth was developed in 2013 with support from the Arts Council of England. The Show toured since 2013 and the story also unfolds as an Online Book which you can read in full as 20 Chapters on this website. Emma’s Poetry & Spoken Word includes raw, funny and vibrant performance poetry and prose. She has appeared at open mics all over the country and been guest poet at events in Manchester, Preston, Wakefield and beyond. She was chuffed to have her first ever slam win at the famous Uptown Poetry Slam at the Green Mill, Chicago in 2010. In Spring 2014 Emma qualified in Preparing to Teach in the Life-Long Learning Sector. She delivers workshops in performance and creative life-writing to accompany her shows where she encourages others to tell their stories. Emma also writes freelance journalism from time to time, and writes a Blog here, where she (occasionally) documents her on-going creative journey. Previous work includes Magic Words, a popular spoken word night Emma ran and hosted in Todmorden in 2012. In the 1990’s Emma was a lively participant on Manchester’s queer theatre and cabaret scene, and was co-writer and producer of Manchester’s fondly remembered queer pantos Snow White and the 7 Dubious Stereotypes and Little Red 30-Something and Her Queer Adventures in Wonderland at the Green Room in 2002 & 2004. We provide coaching for all ages from 4 onwards with competitive league football.KICK IT OUT CALLS FOR THE FOOTBALL COMMUNITY TO TAKE A STAND AGAINST DISCRIMINATION Kick It Out – Take A Stand press release FINAL – EMBARGOED UNTIL 00.01 ON SUNDAY 11th OCTOBER 2020 – Kick It Out has today launched a new campaign, called Take A Stand, which is encouraging people across the football community to take action in the battle against discrimination. Kick It Out, football’s equality and inclusion organisation, has teamed up with a range of partners to launch the initiative, including Facebook and the FA. Most football fans will have witnessed some form of discrimination in football – on the terraces, in dressing rooms or on social media – but more needs to be done to move from awareness to action. Through Take A Stand, Kick It Out want to create a culture where individuals take personal responsibility for being part of the change. That includes fans, players, managers, CEOs, stewards, governing bodies, shop assistants and social media organisations – everyone on and off the pitch. Take A Stand is both a challenge and an invitation for individuals and organisations to publicly commit to their own pledge. It is also a movement that everyone can play a part in. Facebook is supporting Take A Stand by launching initiatives focussed on action, and centred on reporting and education. It is building a new automated Messenger service, for when fans are back in stadiums, enabling people to report matchday discrimination directly to Kick It Out. Facebook is also launching a new education programme targeted directly at fans of all ages. It is piloting this new training module with anti-hate charity, HOPE not Hate, delivered through clubs’ community and fan engagement programmes. The pilot will be launched in close collaboration with the England national teams, Derby County F.C. and Portsmouth F.C., before being rolled-out further in 2021.

The National Association of Child Contact Centres (NACCC) was founded in Nottingham in 1991 with the establishment of the first Child Contact Centre. It is a registered charity, and an umbrella organisation which sets the National Standards to which Child Contact Centres must work. Child Contact Centres are neutral places where children of separated families can enjoy contact with non-resident parents and sometimes other family members, in a comfortable and safe environment. Every year, this national organisation via its member centres, support families and children in their local community. There are accredited member centres throughout England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands. They are operated by a variety of independent organisations that form the membership of NACCC. NACCC is unique in the service it provides for local Contact Centres. Many of our members, provide ‘Supported Contact’ They are predominantly open on alternate Saturdays. These centres are only suitable for families that are deemed to present minimal risk of violence or abuse. In some cases, a higher level of supervision is needed because a child or parent is at risk of harm. These are ‘Supervised Contact Centres‘ and are used in these situations, but also can be used to reintroduce a child to a parent where there has been a substantial gap in contact. NACCC has an accreditation process which ensures members meet national standards. An assessor visits every three years to ensure that the centres comply with DBS checks, health and safety legislation, that HR practices are carried out appropriate, their financial situation, their operating procedures are in accordance with the standards, and safeguarding procedures are in place. The assessor then submits a report to NACCC. If the centre does not comply with all areas, an action plan is issued which is time limited. NACCC also delivers high quality training and support to ensure members are well equipped and knowledgeable. In addition, there is a helpline which centres, and parents can ring for advice and guidance, and a safeguarding helpline in the event of an issue arising at the centre.

Enriching lives through learningCraven College – a Further Education College based in Skipton, North Yorkshire, “The Gateway to the Dales”. Our unique position – at the juncture of West Yorkshire and East Lancashire enables us to offer a variety of further and higher education courses, including apprenticeships, undergraduate degrees and part-time adult education. Craven College started life in 1825 as the Skipton Mechanics Institute on the High Street in Skipton. During the Second World War the Skipton Art School and Skipton Technical Institute were established. In 1954 the Skipton Art School and Technical Institution become the Craven Institute for Further Education. In 1974, the College was renamed the Craven College of Adult Education and the full-time courses flourished mainly leading to secretarial work, hospitality and catering, social work and small business management. The Aireville Campus was developed in 1989 adjoining Aireville School (now The Skipton Academy). The Auction Mart Campus was later developed to accommodate all land-based courses and The Aviation Academy was established in Yeadon at Leeds Bradford Airport. Tyro Training was established in 2003 offering flexible training, consultancy and support to business across the North of England. With its HQ at Craven Cattle Mart in Skipton, Tyro Training also has a training base in Scarborough. The Animal Management Centre was opened for students in 2018 with specialist rooms for aquatics, invertebrates, nocturnals, reptiles, amphibians and small mammals. From its premises in Ripon, Evolve supports young people from across North Yorkshire with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and offers full Study Programmes, with a focus on work experience and skills for employment. In 2020, Craven College became an integral part of the Yorkshire and Humber Institute of Technology – representing significant investment in training resources on the Skipton campus to support education in digital skills such as cyber-security, digital infrastructure, multi-media, software development and gaming.

Cambridge Gymnastics Academy CIC is a non-profit organisation, which was founded in May 2012. The company Director Kayleigh Plaza, had a vision to provide affordable gymnastics for all, no matter age, gender, income or ability/disability. The club has since evolved and with an incredibly dedicated staff team, together fundraised, saved and received grants from both the Council and Sport England totalling £250,000. In May 2016, CGA opened its doors to a dedicated facility at North Cambridge Academy. CGA prides itself on being a hub for the community. Sessions are available from 6 week old babies to adult, from recreational to elite, with the lowest priced classes in the area and we even offer a 10% discount for people on means tested benefits. After our pre-school classes, we offer free refreshments so families can build relationships with others. We offer classes for minority groups such as women’s only, over 50’s and specially designed disability sessions. We are an inclusive club, so in the evenings children with disabilities join in with our normal recreational sessions. We deliver curriculum support to the NCA students and run a youth night on a Friday evening to provide local young people with a safe environment. In 2017 our success & hard work was recognised by British Gymnastics and we were selected as 1 of 3 clubs in the whole of the UK to be shortlisted for the award ‘British Gymnastics Club of the Year’. Following this success CGA were also awarded the 2017 winners of the ‘Living Sports Community Club of the Year’ fighting off strong competition from sports clubs across Cambridgeshire. Both huge achievements for the club. The club is a registered member of both British Gymnastics and Eastern Counties Gymnastics Association and has a number of fully qualified coaches & judges up to National Level who are DBS checked, safeguard & first aid qualified.

BERA is a membership association and learned society committed to advancing research quality, building research capacity and fostering research engagement. We aim to inform the development of policy and practice by promoting the best quality evidence produced by educational research.  Our vision is for educational research to have a profound and positive influence on society. We support this by promoting and sustaining the work of educational researchers. Our membership, which is more than 2,500 strong, includes educational researchers, practitioners and doctoral students from the UK and around the globe.  Founded in 1974, BERA has since expanded into an internationally renowned association. We strive to be inclusive of the diversity of education research and scholarship, and welcome members from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds, theoretical orientations, methodological approaches, sectoral interests and institutional affiliations. We encourage the development of productive relationships with other associations within and beyond the UK.  We run a major international conference each year alongside a diverse and engaging series of events, and publish high quality research in our peer-reviewed journals, reports, book series and the ground breaking BERA Blog. We recognise excellence through our awards and fellowships, provide grants for research, support the career development of our members, and nurture an active peer community organised around networks, forums and special interest groups.  BERA is a registered charity (no. 1150237) and is a company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales (company no. 08284220).
