I am a Chartered member of both IOSH and CIEH and on the OSHCR register. I initially set up this business to provide practical and authoritative training in health and safety regulation and enforcement. Everything I include in my training is drawn from my 25+ years experience as a health and safety regulator, lecturer and Practitioner. During this time I have used the full range of enforcement options drawn from complex criminal investigation resulting in service of notices to prosecution of both individuals and large businesses. I worked for HSE for two years and held a full Inspectors Warrant providing advice and support to HSE and local authorities. I have investigated or managed many different incidents resulting in broken bones, multiple injuries and many fatalities. Here are a few: Crushed by barrier Fatal scalding Explodng tandoori oven Slip accident Fatality at a nightclub Child falls 15ft at a nursery Asbestos release 9m Fall from care home window I managed a team of local authority health and safety regulators and acted as mentor for their investigations. This involved providing advice on appropriate action, use of powers under S20 Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, providing advice on investigations and supporting them through to prosecution where appropriate. This has enabled me to develop detailed practical skills in investigation and interview techniques, PACE interviewing (including PEACE), dealing with lawyers and building successful cases for prosecution. I also provide advice to other local authorites assisting them in their investigations, reviewing prosecution files, acting as second interviewing officer and advising on all matters in between. For many years, I acted as the local authority liaison officer providing support to those bereaved following workplace fatalities. I have written guidance on this role which forms the basis of my training in family liaison. I have produced reports for coroners inquests and have presented evidence during inquests.

Creating Awareness Plastic in our oceans is a huge environmental and health problem. Reducing plastic from our everyday lives will help reduce the need for and cost of recycling. This is important because recycling streams are not correctly managed, and many are dysfunctional. We also need to correctly dispose of our plastic and other unwanted items, choosing to reuse, repurpose or give it away. Keeping plastic out of our oceans (and our food chain) is a big issue which is why I organise beach and underwater clean ups wherever and whenever I can. I also enjoy visiting schools to give presentations that include short videos about marine life, and coral reefs. Plus, we discuss the different types of plastic, how it is affecting the environment and how we can all try to ‘Say No To Plastic’. PARADICE A BRIEF HISTORY One day in the early 1970’s Ross Blong, a farmer with imagination as it turned out, came home from a particularly unpleasant milking and told his wife Nell he had enough and wanted to find something different to do! After searching for a “people business” they decided on an ice skating rink in Glen Innes and purchased it in 1974. After a steep learning curve they established Paradice on the map as a great family entertainment facility in Auckland. By 1980 they had dreams of building New Zealand’s first international size indoor arena and had it up and running by May 1981 at our current Avondale location at Lansford Cresent. It has been popular ever since with families and as a “hang out” for teens and young adults. There have been several transformations since its opening with the most recent being completed in 2011 to include a state of the art ice floor, dasher boards and refrigeration system. By the late 1990’s the second family generation having being heavily involved in ice sports at an international level dreamed of a second, Olympic sized indoor ice rink, again a first for New Zealand, and it was built in 1999 at its current location Botany Downs. The rink is still going strong today. In 2012 Paradice owned and operated Auckland’s first temporary outdoor ice rink at Aotea Square which has turned into an annual winter wonderland type event with the addition of NZ’s first event ice slide in 2014. Our temporary ice rinks have expanded to Rotorua, Wellington, and Taupo. Through the years Paradice has operated as a family, customer focused friendly business with staff sharing their passion for people and ice with innovation!

About the chief instructor Gursharan Sahota was born in Kenya, East Africa but moved to the UK at the age of 12. He took up Karate at the age of 14 in the local Bedford club and was awarded black belt 1st dan (shodan) four years later. Now an 8th Dan, Gursharan has competed in a multitude of kata and kumite events, many at national and international level. But the most significant event in his career was the visit he made in 1984 to Japan. There, he fulfilled a great ambition by training in a Japanese dojo under the instruction of Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa. This experience proved to be a turning point for Gursharan. On his return to England, he realised the trip had been the inspiration he needed to dedicate his future to training and teaching karate as a way of life. Gursharan’s first club was opened in Luton/Dunstable in 1981 and this is now the association’s hombu (HQ). Having been a teacher of the art for many years, he formed his own association in 1993 – TISKA (The Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association) which is now one of the biggest associations in the UK. Gursharan’s love of karate has never diminished. He still teaches over 35 classes a week in the UK and regularly takes master classes internationally. All in all, he has brought hundreds of students of all ages up to black belt standard and beyond. He is also involved in charity work, helping to subsidise trips for surgeons to third world countries to operate on underprivileged children. He has, for many years, funded many projects in India, and is at present helping to fund the building of a new school.

I am Hungarian, born in Romania but raised in Hungary and now living in Ireland for over 15 years. I’ve traveled around the world more than I ever dreamed of. 😊 I studied to be a textile engineer but never worked in my field. Hoping for a better life I came to Ireland. With the challenge of not having native English, building a life (in a new country) came many new experiences and learnings. There were moments when I wanted to give up! But instead, slowly from being a cleaner, I worked myself up to become a Data Analyst and Project manager in the corporate world. Growing and learning has always motivated me, so I have read books, taken courses and started my journey in self-development. Financially I achieved what I was only dreaming of when I set foot in Ireland. I had my house, car, great job (which I enjoyed but didn’t love), supportive friends and my loving family in Hungary. But something was missing.. Specifically with dating and relationships, in life, I’ve had some struggles! I lost all trust in men and completely closed off afterwards. There were difficult times and there were good times. Even when I was independent and content, there was definitely something missing. I hoped to find a partner, someone who I trusted and felt safe with. I wanted to fix ME, to be able to create that fulfilled life I dreamed of with a loving partner. Business English Program started at the instance of US AID in the year 1989-1990 for 16 and 17 grade officers who wanted to avail the scholarships which otherwise went un-utilized.
