StreetLife is an exciting project funded by the UK Government Community Renewal Fund. It explores new ways to revitalise and diversify York’s Coney Street, drawing inspiration from the city’s rich history and heritage and vibrant creative communities, and involving businesses, the general public, and other stakeholders in shaping the future of the high street. The project is led by the University of York in partnership with the City of York Council (including Make It York/My City Centre), York Civic Trust, York Music Venues Network, and creative practitioners including Thin Ice Press. StreetLife will create innovative, immersive experiences combining digital and physical engagement in the StreetLife Hub, 29-31 Coney Street, over eight months between April and November 2022. Look out for a fully functioning historic printing press and print workshops, wide-ranging music and sound workshops, exciting audio-visual experiences and projections, and opportunities to shape and share in the future of the street. A series of collaborative workshops will address the themes of public realm, connectivity, sustainability, adaptive reuse, diversity, equality and access, retaining and developing talent, and rebuilding creative infrastructure. The project seeks ways to restore the historic connections between the street and the River Ouse, make creative, flexible use of high street buildings, and put the local community at the heart of regeneration projects. The project logo, designed by York-based Kaizen Arts Agency, was inspired by the street’s distinctive paving, and represents StreetLife’s connection to Coney Street and to York. Richard started playing the electric guitar at age eight after being inspired by a Spanish guitarist on a family holiday in Menorca. Richard was privately taught up until age fifteen and continued his study of music through college and university after he left school. He performed regularly as a child gigging from age nine in social clubs and retirement homes, playing a variety of Shadows/Buddy Holly music. Richard has entered numerous competitions over the years, one of which he came second in at the Fry’s Club Search For A Star Competition. He has also performed at the Lakeside venue where the Darts are televised, winning a Fender guitar presented to him by Bruce Welch of The Shadows. He also played for five years in a successful pub/wedding, functions band called Outbreak. Richard continues to regularly involve himself in performances and has deputised for many local bands including Tundra & Obsidian. Richard also performs regularly with a six piece wedding/function band called Freeze. He is a full time professional musician, making a living from performing, teaching and studio session work. Richard has seven years teaching experience and has performed in thousands of venues all over the South West in the seventeen years he has been playing the guitar. He graduated with a BA Honours Degree in Professional Musicianship from the Bristol Institute Of Modern Music. He has been featured on their website under success stories. Take a read Here. He has been lucky enough to receive master classes from guitarists such as Greg Howe (Michael Jackson’s guitarist) Rene Woollard (Jessie J/Olly Murs/Cheryl Cole session guitarist) and has been taught by professional guitarists who regularly work for Guitarist, Total Guitar & Guitar Techniques magazines including Stuart Ryan & Jamie Humphries. Richard was also lucky enough to perform onstage with bassist Jet Harris from The Shadows. He has also featured in an interview on making a living as a professional guitarist in Total Guitar magazine, issue number #257. He has experience teaching in schools as part of the South Gloucestershire Music Hub, so he’s comfortable teaching in a group lesson environment.

I first took up silk painting at the 2001 Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace, when the Fabric Colour Workshop were doing taster sessions. I went with curiosity, and came home with a large frame, some silk, a brush and a box of little bottles of paint! Since then, I have completed my City and Guilds qualification in creative textiles (silk painting), and the "Access to Art & Design" Diploma at the University for Creative Arts in Farnham. I enjoy teaching silk painting and helping each student to achieve their potential. I have written tutorials on aspects of silk painting for Crafts Beautiful Magazine and Creative Crafting Magazine, and contributed three projects to "Craft", which was published by Dorling Kindersley. I appeared (briefly!) on Paul Martin's Handmade Revolution (BBC2), and was interviewed by the Victoria & Albert Museum as part of a project on traditional crafts. I have run silk painting workshops for many local organisations including Watts Gallery, The Lightbox, The West End Centre in Aldershot, Amberley Museum, Woking College, NADFAS, The Embroiderers' Guild, the Guild of Weavers Spinners & Dyers, and the WI. I have also run introductory evening workshops for a number of local businesses, and many private parties. I have also been working in fused glass and ceramics since 2009, and have my own home workshop. I have been on a number of courses at Glasszoo, UCA Farnham, Warm Glass and The Glass Hub, and have also attended workshops at the International Festival of Glass. I have been featured in the Glass Beadmakers UK Magazine and Journal. I am a member of the Guild of Silk Painters. I set up their Surrey Branch in 2005. I have also spent time on the Guild of Silk Painters Executive Committee as their Vice Chairman and, more recently, as their Publicity Officer. My silk painting courses are also listed on craftcourses.com. I produce a range of hand made accessories and homewares from hand painted silk and fused glass, suitable for all occasions. I started going to yoga classes when I was just 16, tagging along with my Mum who had been going for years to her favourite teacher Sam. Yoga stayed with me throughout my adolescence, and I always found a class wherever I was, whether at University, on holiday or when I moved away from home. When I settled in Kent, I found an amazing teacher, Rebecca Papa-Adams, who was teaching at my local gym, and I was hooked, I went to yoga several times a week, practiced at home and started becoming interested in the non physical side of yoga. Rebecca convinced me to start my teacher training, even though my immediate plans included marriage and babies. I began my 500 hour teacher training with the British Wheel of Yoga in 2015, shortly after I got married, and unbeknown to me I was already pregnant on the first day of teacher training. I studied for 2.5 years with the British Wheel of Yoga and formed an amazing circle of mentors, teachers and friends throughout that time. I ended up studying and teaching throughout both my pregnancies, which added a whole other dimension to my journey. Seeing the amazing physical and mental effects of yoga whilst being pregnant encouraged me to begin pregnancy teacher training in 2019 soon after my second baby was born; he even joined me on my teacher training days. Yoga provides a lot of different things for different people, but for me it has been present for most of my adult life keeping me grounded, physically mobile and calm. It's opened my mind to other areas of health that I would have never explored otherwise. It's not about being the most flexible or being able to meditate for hours on end, but having strategies and coping mechanisms to live a happy and vibrant life. The classes I teach all include an element of strength, so that when you do stretch, its safe and controlled. I'd love for you to join me at one of my classes, whatever stage you are at.

Therefore, stage one of our mission was to introduce all the well known concepts/schools/school of thoughts was number one priority. About the Migration Museum The Migration Museum explores how the movement of people to and from Britain across the ages has shaped who we are – as individuals, as communities, and as a nation. Migration is a pressing contemporary issue and is at the centre of polarised political and online debate. But there’s an underlying story of comings and goings stretching back many centuries. And this story goes to the heart of who we are today. Britain has thousands of museums, but none comprehensively focused on this important theme that connects us all. The time is right for a highly relevant, accessible visitor attraction that shines a light on who we are, where we come from and where we are going. From our current home in the heart of Lewisham Shopping Centre, we stage engaging exhibitions and dynamic events, alongside a far-reaching education programme for primary, secondary, university and adult learners. We have a growing digital presence and convene a knowledge-sharing Migration Network of museums and galleries across the UK. The story so far The Migration Museum was founded by Barbara Roche, who first made the case for a migration museum for Britain almost 20 years ago, stemming from her time as Britain’s immigration minister, and from visiting similar museums in other parts of the world – notably Ellis Island in New York. Barbara assembled a founding team of people from different professional backgrounds who shared her passionate belief that Britain’s migration history should be placed at the heart of our national story. Together, they began to scope what a national migration museum might look like. Sophie Henderson, a former immigration judge and barrister, came on board as Director in 2013.
