Thank you for visiting my website where you will find my blog posts, portfolio of paintings, work for sale and information about my learn to paint videos. I live in Southwest Wales, Carmarthenshire, in the beautiful Towy valley where much of the inspiration for my work comes from. I like to paint natural subjects and use mainly watercolour and mixed media. I strive to work in a loose style trying to capture the essence and character of a subject rather than rendering detail. I continue to learn, experiment and hopefully develop as an artist. Below are some new autumn paintings, loose and semi abstract. Rather busy but then the woods are rather busy at this time of year 😃. Lots of mark making to suggest movement particularly in the bottom two.

About : I'm Murron Fraser , an artist and printed textile surface designer / teacher based in Manchester in the North west of England. I take inspiration from a variety of places one being nature, translating its forms and natural beauty into original artwork, applied textiles, embroidery and surface print design. After gaining a 1st Class BA (Hons) in Textiles and Surface design, I began designing my own collections as well as working freelance on design projects and collaborating with museums on heritage projects. As well as being a designer, I am also a qualified teacher and teach art and textile courses within the community and educational settings. I studied Graphic Design at Newcastle Polytechnic, now the University of Northumbria, graduating in 1984, working in graphic design practice before returning to Northumbria as a Senior Lecturer. My return to printmaking (first so enjoyed as a student when I was never happier than when in the print room) was a gradual but consistent process until my move to rural Northumberland where I now have my studio. After fifteen years teaching I now make prints and offer occasional workshops in my riverside studio, creative days with a small group of enthusiastic students, and in addition to these, I also work with other organisations to run workshops elsewhere. My background as a graphic designer undoubtedly influences the way I work. I am a printmaker inspired by plants and natural forms - the garden therefore, is a key source, but colour, structure and pattern in landscape draws my attention too. The process of printmaking itself though is there at the top of the list of drivers - along with all other printmakers, that thrill of 'lifting up the paper', the big reveal, is a joy (most of the time). Drawing underpins my work - it is where many of my prints begin, in sketchbooks, and the processes I choose which allow me to incorporate drawing in some form or other. The riverside studio in which I work, in rural Northumberland, is rich in inspiration.

I started practicing woodcarving the year before the pandemic, driven by a natural inclinations for natural crafts, and also as a way to decompress and ease the stress of working as a musician/busker full time. It turned out to be an activity that quite literally kept me going through the difficulties of lockdown years and consequentially I’ve gained skills and developed confidence in the craft even if completely self-taught. As soon as the borders opened up, I went on a long journey across the US crafting for donations on the streets and working on private commissions, making up stories for my hand-carved characters and sharing them on social media while constantly absorbing inspiration and ideas. Ultimately, I started teaching my first classes and workshops, and found a new passion in teaching alongside the carving itself. Once back in Scotland I decided to put all that energy into building a community and developing more skills and possibilities to bring together ancient natural skills, tradition, creativity, innovation, mindfulness, well-being, storytelling, mental health and more, all in one room, with just a little block of wood and a sharp tool. And a cup of tea or coffee.
