Greenheart Learning Partnership

greenheart learning partnership

Thank you for visiting! Please note, this is an old-fashioned website. It is, however, a calm and relaxing site (despite the state our world is in), filled with useful and fascinating info about transformative education for sustainability and greening the heart of education. It contains no ads that jump around or pages that pop up. It contains no gratuitous "white space" or stock photos that keep scrolling forever. And it contains no slickly disguised requests for your money (although we do have a Greening the Heart of Education course in the works!). But you will always know where the Nav Bar is! <— Beach Fairy GreenHeart Education is a primer on transformative education for sustainability. Here you'll find what you'll need in order to genuinely "green" ... your classroom your curriculum your students' learning your school community and your life's work as a teacher. It's all here, dedicated to all the children, of all species. "We share one atmosphere, one climate system. It knows no borders. [...] Science shows that changes in the climate are widespread, rapid, and becoming more intense and affecting every part of the world. [...] It is now unequivocal that human influence is causing climate change, making extreme events more frequent and more severe. [...] Global warming of 1.5ºC and 2ºC will be exceeded during this century unless immediate, rapid, and large-scale reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, especially of carbon dioxide and methane, occur in the nearest future."

London

West Central London Fixers bring together volunteer repairers and the community to fix their electronics for free. The idea is to nurture repair culture in the community, rather than throwing away electronics – indeed e-waste has become a huge environmental problem. The events are open to volunteer learner repairers so are educational as well. WCL Fixers currently organise monthly free repair events at the Dalgarno Trust and the Space in North Kensington as well as at the Livat shopping centre in Hammersmith. The idea however is to have three branches: WCL Fixers – North Kensington WCL Fixers – Hammersmith WCL Fixers - Westminster - from April 2023 We are supported by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the London Borough of Hammersmith Fulham. We work in partnership with the Restart Project. West Central London Fixers also engages in the private repair and recycling of laptops. Please call or email us for further details - wcl.fixers@gmail.com. We love fixing things at our free electronic repair events. However, as we do not stock spare parts for all electronics, it may be at times best to seek professional advice. Click on the link to locate your local repair shop. Trainee sessions now available at our repair events - (2 hours). Scroll down to the events in black and white. Reuse things: Library of Things, also present at Livat Hammersmith, helps you save money and reduce waste by affordably renting out useful Things like drills, sound systems and sewing machines from local spaces. You can also learn skills like DIY and repair.

Loop

loop

Loop was opened in the Summer of 2005 by Susan Cropper, a New Yorker living in London. She wanted it to be like the best yarn fair you can imagine in a warm and inspiring space along with incredible staff who are expert knitters and friendly and talented people. Most of our yarns are natural fibres and a lot are hand-dyed yarns from the likes of La Bien Aimee, Madelinetosh, Spincycle, Qing, The Uncommon Thread, Eden Cottage Yarns, Lichen + Lace, and many small independent dyers from the UK and around the world. Loop is also the UK Flagship shop for Quince & Co, Brooklyn Tweed, and Woolfolk. Loop also stocks a huge range of haberdashery which is useful and beautiful as well as a great selection of vintage haberdashery which includes buttons, ribbons, and an incredible selection of embroidery and mending threads. With a passion for print, we also have a wonderful collection of publications – books and magazines from all over the world as well as a huge collection of printed patterns. We have the joy of collaborating with some incredible designers who create patterns for us using Loop yarns including Fiona Alice, Norah Gaughan, Juju Vail, Paulina Popiolek, Melanie Berg, Kathryn Merrick, Rachel Coopey, Yoko Hatta, Justyna Lorkowska, and Florence Spurling. We have published four books which include Pretty Knits, Vintage Crochet, Juju’s Loops and Loop’s 10 which include designs from Stephen West, Pam Allen, Tif Fussel, Kirsten Kapur and many others. After 34 years working as a graphic designer/illustrator and photographer, I made a career change in 2018 to concentrate on my love of art, crafts, making and printing. Natural forms/plants, landscapes and architecture are my favourite subjects to work with but nothing is out of the question if it inspires me. Gel plate monoprinting allows me to work with all of these in various combinations, printing onto gift tags, envelopes, glass, wood, fabric and large format paper. I also eco-print using leaves, flowers and natural plant/vegetable dyes, but am also a big fan of using commercial small batch dyes for quick results with fabrics. The ‘making’ aspect of my work allows me to produce small bespoke items. Brooches are a favourite, with each one being hand painted and therefore a one-off (even if the colour way is similar). My latest are formed from a birch plywood base, which I choose to source externally rather than make myself, and therefore help to support another business. I also enjoy teaching and really love seeing others learn something new and take home the items and skills they have acquired.....hopefully with the inspiration to do more! The photography side of my work still ticks over in the background with images and items that I sell on Redbubble. I have also remained a contributor to online photo libraries including Dreamstime and Adobe Stock. Commissioned work is something I take on now and again when time allows. Please email me if you have a request you would like to discuss.

Monifieth High School

Welcome to our website. Here you will find information about our school including the opportunities available for young people, how we support and promote learning and who to contact with any queries. Monifieth High School has a rich history of success in supporting young people to learn, develop and succeed through a focus on relationships, respect and aspiration. Our values of compassion, integrity, justice and wisdom are at the heart of everything we do. Recent experiences have taught us the importance of living out these values to support one another during challenging times. Our community is central to our life as a school. As we continue to recover from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, now is a time for taking stock, building on previous success and developing our vision of where we want to go in the future. As a school community we are thinking together about our vision and about how we continue to improve our learning experiences, how we ensure even higher levels of achievement and attainment and how we promote healthiest living. We will utilise the potential of our exciting new learning campus to focus on sustainability and ensure our young people lead the way on climate issues. We will also continue to develop our offer and our partnerships to ensure every young person moves on into inspiring and successful destinations beyond school. We believe that everyone in this school can impact the world and the lives of others. It is our job to support our young people to develop their values, skills and abilities to be the change they want to see and to be successful in their lives.
