She then decided to study Writing at Liverpool John Moores University, obtaining a BA before pursuing a career in teaching. She began work at a college for young adults with special needs, and then moved to a vocational college while studying for a post-compulsory PGCE. Laura taught English for a few years, and also ran several Creative Writing courses before returning to LJMU to obtain an MA in Writing. She then worked as a teaching assistant at a local secondary school, before leaving that job to pursue a career at the Liverpool Literary Agency. She has also worked as a private tutor, written for tabletop roleplaying games, and is the narrative writer for an Indie video game. Laura is looking for adult and YA science fiction and fantasy of all stripes, including steampunk, post-apocalyptic, urban fantasy, supernatural, and dystopian. She’s currently freelancing and is in direct contact with many of the big publishing houses: Hachette, Bonnier Books, and book packager, Working Partners Ltd, among others. She also works with the Caroline Wakeman Literary Agency, assessing their authors’ work for commercial viability, as well as scouting for new talent. For twelve years, Lil was a Senior Commissioning Editor at Working Partners Ltd – the creatives behind massive commercial hits such as Beast Quest, Warriors and the Daisy Meadows series. There she created globally successful concepts for every age group and developed storylines so the books were unputdownable. Lil is also an author in her own right: she has written 6 books under her own name, and ghost written many others under various pseudonyms.  In every age level, Lil would like to see originality - particularly in voice. A strong character with depth, venturing on a quest that's never been undertaken before will get her excited. The 'quest' doesn't have to be epic in scale, it could be as small as petting the next-door neighbour's dog, or getting the good looking new kid to notice you, it just has to be something a reader will want to invest in. If you are new to qualitative research or if you want some initial help to engage with the materials appropriately, then this webinar programme is for you. Doing Qualitative Research is a free curated resource we developed that takes researchers through the whole research cycle, not just the analysis. There is a heavy emphasis on what it is like to 'do' qualitative research in a robust, ethical and professional manner, with practical exercises and reflexive tasks suggested throughout. We are running two, one-hour webinars together with asynchronous, self-directed engagement with the course materials, to help a peer-group of researchers work through the resources on the parts of the qualitative research process they need help with. We understand that not everyone needs to cover the same materials and concepts, or at the same pace. In the first station, discussion with your peers and the facilitator, will help you choose which parts of the Doing Qualitative Research course to focus on before the second webinar. The concluding webinar uses group work and discussion for you to additionally practice one of the most important aspects of the qualitative research paradigm; reflexivity. You will identify what you have learned and how this affects what you will do next with your learning and research. The webinars are facilitated by our Qualitative Research Specialist Dr Cathy Gibbons. Cathy has almost 20 years' experience of teaching qualitative methods across a wide spectrum of disciplines within and beyond the social sciences.
