The University of Nottingham Gliding Club welcomes any University of Nottingham student or staff member to come and learn to fly. We offer some of the most affordable flying in the country, with flights starting from just £6 and free instruction provided.The University of Nottingham Gliding Club is one of the oldest clubs in the university. We cater for complete beginners to those who have already gone solo elsewhere and want to continue flying at university. Some of our members have gone on to become national, or even international gliding champions, including our founding member, Brian Spreckley. Other members have gone on to pursue careers as airline pilots or roles in big engineering companies, such as Airbus, Rolls Royce and BAE. NU in the university ESLC building Founded in the late 1970s, the aim of the club is to provide flying training and experience to members as cheaply as possible, regardless of whether someone has flown before. Our club owns two gliders, which you can learn more about on our Club Fleet Page. We are affiliated with Cranwell Gliding Club, who flies from RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire and who are themselves affiliated with the RAF Gliding & Soaring Association. The advantage of this relationship is that we have access to their extensive fleet and experienced instructors. We run several expeditions each year, which are open to all members, including our annual Easter trip to Portmoak in Scotland, the Inter-University competition in the summer and various weekends to other clubs. Basis Yorkshire was set up (as Genesis Leeds) in 1989 by a few volunteers, supporting sexworkers in Leeds. In 1997, a young person’s service was established to accommodate the specific needs of girls and young women who were being sexually exploited. In 2018, Basis Boys was established to accommodate boys and young men that are being exploited, sexually or otherwise. The charity also provides high quality training and awareness raising sessions locally and nationally on social justice issues and practice development. POSITION STATEMENT – WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO Basis supports indoor and street sex workers who identify as women, and young people who are sexually exploited. Our purpose is to empower people to make safer and healthier choices by offering information, support and options. Our work is driven by a sound evidence base, as well as working closely with women and young people to ensure our services are designed and delivered with them, putting their voices and experience at the centre of our work. We challenge stigma and inequality of access to services for everyone we work with. We are proud to be one of a small number of specialist organisations that explicitly recognise and advocate for women’s right to work more safely when selling sex, while also supporting young people who are sexually exploited to be safer and free from harm. We understand that for some women and young people, their ‘choices’ are severely constrained by a range of factors including physical and mental health, substance use, family circumstances and abusive relationships, as we support them in managing the risks and vulnerabilities they face. I am a qualified school teacher my specialist subject is physical education (PE) I'm also a martial arts instructor and I started training in Taekwondo in 1986 at Panther Taekwondo, I gained my black belt in 1990 and wanted a new challenge, so I started going on different coaching courses to increase my coaching knowledge. While studying for my teaching degree I joined an organisation called Teachsport. With Teachsport, I went on to develop a school's martial arts program which involves going into primary schools and teaching children taekwondo and fitness. Once I graduated from University, I decided to introduce martial arts as a PE option to our Teachsport programme to help children with their coordination and confidence. We now run numerous after- school clubs throughout London and the south east, covering a range of different sports. I have recently gained the status of vice president at Panther Taekwondo and Song Moo Kwan England my duties include safeguarding and wellbeing of students and instructors. I now work in schools in Haringey, Lewisham and Redbridge teaching PE and supporting teachers in how to deliver good to outstanding PE.

Welcome to Lifelong Learning at the University of Southampton. We deliver the University's community learning programme, which offers a range of opportunities for adult learners to enhance their skills and broaden their knowledge in a range of subject areas. From languages to creative writing and from archaeology to quantum computing you can choose from a diverse range of courses which run throughout our academic year (October to July). Our courses normally run on a weekly basis during the evenings and can be from 6 to 30 weeks in length. In addition to our evening courses we also run a series of themed Study Days. These events generally take place on Saturdays or Sundays and consist of a half or full day of academic lectures delivered by staff or postgraduate students. Examples of past topics are: Jane Austen, 1066, Lawrence of Arabia, the Archaeology of Southampton, Castles, Women and British Film, Stonehenge and Old Sarum. Lifelong Learning is based at our Avenue Campus and most of our courses and events take place at this campus where there is plenty of parking and it is on the U2 bus route and Avenue cycle route.
