Retune Charity

retune charity

Bishop's Stortford

Retune was founded by Tom Ryder. Tom is a musician and journalist, and has a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. He was hospitalised for poor mental health multiple times during his late teens and early twenties, which eventually forced him to withdraw from university and begin again from scratch. While in hospital, Tom noticed that patients were finding creative outlets to cope with their predicament. These outlets included drawing, painting, writing poetry, dancing, singing and cooking. Tom wrote songs and, despite those dark times, he realised creativity’s tremendous potential to improve mental health; it is crucial to have an outlet for feelings and emotions. A few years later, Tom started hosting live gigs. He also ran workshops in schools, connecting with young people who were experiencing mental struggles. In 2018, Retune started to take shape: in addition to live shows and schools, Tom now visited prisons and hospitals, and produced online content. Tom’s cousin Kathryn Bailey – a photographer, videographer and all-round creative – joined the project in 2019. As well as sharing Tom’s view that creative outlets are powerful tools for mental wellbeing, Kathryn had a personal attachment to Retune's mission... When Tom was first admitted to hospital, 11-year-old Kathryn was shielded from the truth, as she was considered ‘too young’ to know what was going on. Being involved with Retune allows her to be part of a cause that is close to her heart, especially as Retune’s workshops discuss mental wellbeing with all ages, from primary school pupils to adults. Open conversations around wellbeing are more commonplace nowadays, but there is still a long road ahead. Through its workshops and live shows, Retune is creating a community based around mental wellbeing, underpinned by creativity. When we retune something, such as a musical instrument or a radio, we make small adjustments in order to achieve harmony, clarity and balance. Retune believes that the same theory can be applied to mental health. Harnessing creative outlets that engage the imagination, and following the principles of the SCALES model, can help all of us to make small adjustments. As a result, our mental wellbeing will be more in tune.

"One of my inspirations is to create happiness by bringing out individual elegance and the glamour of life in a big city and allowing you to express your true essence". I believe that everyone deserves to look and feel simply gorgeously stunning. Because I value individuality, I value the close relationship I enjoy with a client when designing a bespoke piece that will sublimate the wearers' inner beauty and feelings and make their luxurious dream of uniqueness come to life. "Fascinated by antiquity, primitive, tribal jewellery and the beauty of couture, I love to fuse original ideas with a strong aesthetic, using the craft of jewellery making by combining traditional workmanship and cutting edge technology like photo etching". I trained traditionnally in goldsmithing at Central St Martins, followed by a City and Guild. Ensuite, to have a greater knowledge of jewellery making, and hone my skills, I also attended masterclasses with master goldsmiths in Hatton Garden, where I have my workshop. Founders story Claud M Brandt Wendy Wu What we have seen from our previous working life Claud M Brandt Claud has over 50 years working experience having worked most of his working life in the construction industry and construction industry related businesses. During his career he has worked in countries in Eastern Europe, Middle East,Clearly defined value-added business processes are vital to the success of the business. Suitable KPIs can help the company focus on what they are seeking to achieve. Company policies and procedures are essential. A company may have defined policies and procedures but without regular reviews and updates it may not reflect the changing situation of the ongoing operation of the company and the growth the company. Compliance to regularly reviewed policies and procedures is essential to the success of any company, otherwise the policies and procedures are worthless. Merely looking at revenue and cost and accounting reports monthly, quarterly and yearly without tracing back to the root cause of any deficiencies and resolving any fundamental problems in a timely manner will potentially lead to ongoing financial problems depending on the severity of the problem. Regular reviews of the accounting and reporting system can help in ensure the system is updated in line with the company’s growth. Effective costing reviews can help the company achieve better cost control and cost reduction thus better business performance. For management to make reasonable and informed business decisions, the information provided to the management needs to be on time, relevant, adequate and correct. In the digital age we now live in, information systems are vital for any business and contributes significantly to the success of a business. Many companies are adopting accounting or ERP software to help manage their business. It is very important to have experienced personnel to help in the review of a company’s existing systems or evaluate new systems a company intends to purchase and very importantly assist in managing the implementation of any new software if the company does not have an experienced inhouse project manager for software implementation.

Many of those coming to Trust House are seeking support for the first time and have never disclosed or reported previously. We are able to understand the therapeutic needs of individuals that have experienced a high level of trauma as a result of sexual violence whilst also able to successfully navigate complex criminal justice processes in a way that holds clients and ensures their resilience at a time of immense distress. Safe For All

safe for all

London

Safe for All was formed by Anita August who has worked with disadvantaged groups in East London, both as a trainer and manager of a community project for over 13 years. Anita became aware of the significant impact that accredited training in First Aid and Health and Safety had on the employability and life skills of disadvantaged groups. Over the past four years (2006-2010) our senior trainers have been working in partnership with the College of North East London to deliver Health and Safety training to Haringey employees at all levels who are involved in delivering and managing front line services in Adult Social Care, including managers and employees of residential projects for adults with dementia, severe learning difficulties and mental health problems. The training has been extended to also deliver to services delivering childcare facilities including, nurseries, schools and childminders. Safe for All also specialises in delivering training to the Hospitality and Leisure Industries, Schools and Nurseries, Voluntary and Community Organisations, Social Enterprises and is expanding in to the Construction industry and Corporate Sector. Safe for All only uses qualified instructors who have a wealth of experience and knowledge gained from working in an operational Health and Safety and First Aid background, for example, Nurses, Lifeguards, Environmental Health Officers, Health & Safety Representatives and the Emergency Services. All associates have to demonstrate their competence through rigorous assessment of their training. All training associates are CRB checked. Safe for All’s Directors are professionals with extensive experience of managing private, public and third sector organisations and empowering disadvantaged people and communities in London. The Directors and training associates are committed to creating a more inclusive society and enabling everyone to access First Aid and Health and Safety training regardless of circumstance. Anita also identified a lack of affordable training provision and training resources for people with disabilities. Community groups she worked with encouraged her to make her services as widely available as possible. Hence Safe for All was born. Safe for All was formed with a vision to increase the availability of such training and is 50 per cent governed by people with disabilities.

Gasworks

gasworks

London

Established in 1994, Gasworks is a non-profit contemporary visual art organisation working at the intersection between UK and international practices and debates. We provide studios for London-based artists; commission emerging UK-based and international artists to present their first major exhibitions in the UK; and develop a highly-respected international residencies programme, which offers rare opportunities for international artists to research and develop new work in London. All programmes are accompanied by events and participatory workshops that engage audiences directly with artists and their work. Process and development are fundamental to us. We establish long-term relationships with artists and work with them to test out new ideas and establish dialogue with peers and the public. This level of support allows artists to confidently make a significant new step in their professional career, whether the outcome is a work-in-progress, an event or an exhibition. Over the last two and a half decades Gasworks has worked with over 500 artists from 80 countries around the world. Many of our alumni have gone on to exhibit at major institutions and art events, and have received nominations for - or won - prestigious awards including the Turner Prize, Absolut Award and Pinchuk Art Prize. Alumni include Yinka Shonibare, Goshka Macuga, Marvin Gaye Chetwynd, The Otolith Group, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Tania Bruguera, Song Dong, Hassan Khan, Alexandre da Cunha, Renata Lucas, Cinthia Marcelle and many more. Gasworks has recently secured its future by purchasing and redeveloping its home. The £2.1million project has given the organisation unprecedented resilience and great confidence in continuing to support new generations of emerging UK and international artists. Gasworks is also the hub of the Triangle Network, an international network of over thirty arts organisations, mostly based in Africa, Asia and South America. Triangle Network regularly develops and facilitates artists’ residencies and workshops as well as peer-to-peer exchanges, both between the UK and the rest of the world or within a specific region. Triangle informs Gasworks’ programme, giving the organisation unparalleled opportunities to nurture and exhibit artists from across the world.
