Nick has 30 year's experience as a meditator, including 7 years as a Buddhist monk. He now brings together his monastic training with secular practices that allow everyone to benefit from this ancient wisdom of how to be happy through coaching people 1-1 to be the most powerful and creative expression of their life energy, as well as going into companies to run sessions that support mental health, emotional intelligence and creativeness. As well as his monastic training Nick has studied to lead the 8 week Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy course (that is recognised as a valuable treatment option for depression), Trauma release work and self-care meditations that boost self-empathy. Through this combination of skills Nick has supported many people over the last 13 years to find a happier and more fulfilling life as they take part in his courses and personal tuition. The School is one of the oldest in the country. The exact date of foundation is not known, but we know that in 1326 a Chantry School was already established at the old castle of Hanley. At the time of the Reformation, Hanley re-emerged as a Grammar School, and we have a charter from 1544 in the reign of Henry VIII. In 1633 a new body of Trustees was appointed and in 1733 the school was re-built; these buildings (much modified) are still in use today. The 1991 building programme considerably improved the facilities at the school and as a consequence of becoming a Specialist School for Languages we secured funding for a £2 million eight-classroom language and computing block which was opened in September 2008. Our magnificent new sixth form centre was opened in September 2016. Various additional building projects have expanded and enhanced facilities for performing arts, science, PE, humanities and maths departments. We have recently improved and enlarged dining facilities and student toilets. College (House) System The origins of our school can be traced back with some certainty to 1486, when it was given its own buildings and income. However, there is a suggestion that from as early as 1326 the chantry priest may have taught the children of the parish on or near our current school site. The parish of Hanley (later to become Hanley Castle) has an ancient and fascinating history. Although there is evidence of a Roman fort by the river, and of a Roman temple on the site of the church, the first direct references to Hanlee have been found in two charters dated 962 and 972 A.D. At the time of the Norman Conquest (1066-1088) the area was over-run with trees and like all forests belonged to the King of England, who enjoyed exclusive hunting rights. However, within 50 years areas of the forest had been cleared and Hanley had grown into a thriving community. The name Hanley comes from the old English han leah, meaning ‘high clearing’. We have named our new colleges after three major settlements within the forest, reflecting the ancient history of our unique community.

The Raynor Massage is a therapeutic technique developed by Brandon Raynor, an Australian trained Naturopath. Some of the techniques used in Raynor Massage originated from Eastern practices of massage, such as Shiatsu, Ayurvedic massage, Thai massage, Lomi Lomi, and Yoga breathing techniques. Raynor Massage is a unique method of massage specifically focusing on finding and eliminating residual tension being held in the body. Brandon Raynor developed the technique based on over twenty years practicing massage and studying many different techniques used throughout the world. He has developed a method of teaching massage that enables students to learn quickly, focusing on the goal, which is always finding and totally releasing all residual tension located throughout the body. Underlying these physical manifestations of the bands are subtle energy systems similar to Sen lines in Thai Massage, Meridians in Chinese Medicine, or Nadis in Ayurvedic Massage. Knowledge and techniques gleaned from these ancient modalities were then combined and evolved to form the Raynor Band Theory. While Raynor Massage Bands may overlap with some of these eastern practices, their distinguishing feature is they can be physically traced and seen within the body. Our bodies hang onto tension in our muscles for a variety of reasons; poor posture, stress from home or work, injuries, exercise and/or sports training, hunching over a computer and other things as well. This tension is held in our muscle tissue and eventually results in residual muscle tension and pain. Raynor Massage is not anything like an ordinary massage, although it does involve certain adjustments, stretches and techniques that have been developed over the years. Residual tension is something that exists in someone’s body even when their body is at rest, like when they are lying on the massage table. If the client has an area where there is muscle tightness when they are not even using that muscle, this is residual tension. The goal of Raynor Massage is to completely rid the body of this. The definition of “relax” is to “return to a state of looseness”. “Re” is defined “to bring back” and “lax” means “loose”. Thus, Raynor Massage is a modality of deep and relaxing massage. Another vital aspect of Raynor Massage is accepting that residual tension can be caused by emotional, mental or stress related issues. The fundamental philosophy of Raynor Massage is based on the theory of Eastern Medicine. The physical tension in the body is the culmination of various energies, emotions and of a life force, which is called chi or prana. If there is a disruption or blockage, which impedes the flow of chi or prana, the result will be an area of muscle tightness, and the bones in the skeletal structure may be forced out of alignment.

Hello, my name is Andy Basham and I first got interested in coppice crafts and woodmanship through conservation work, mainly coppicing ancient woodlands. I was running a cane furniture workshop and material supply business at the time. Soon I realised I wanted to 'convert' to using local materials and traditional tools / practices. English woodland, particularly the uses for the underwood or coppice, became my passion. After selling my cane furniture business in London and moving to Norfolk, I took up hurdle making in willow osier, also rustic furniture, even making plantable live willow chairs and benches. I displayed and demonstrated my wares at craft fairs and built up a whole range of items to sell, including rakes, besoms and walking sticks. Seems to me very right that the best quality, or perhaps the most individual or unusual sticks occurring in nature, should be ear marked for walking sticks, after all they will be always close to hand even if not used every day. Its a strong link twixt ourselves and mother nature. What Andrew offers a range of greenwood products & services from the hazel woodland he helps manage. Utilising coppice wood and his palette of traditional skills he can weave a bespoke in-situ hazel hurdle; runs hazel chair making courses; and has a vast array of handmade hazel products - from pea sticks to faggots, from thatching spars to rake tines. This cuts down on 'wood miles' reducing our carbon footprint and supports the local economy. For these reasons I don't encourage people to travel long distances for my products or material. Carriage can be arranged for finished products and raw materials. Be warned this can be expensive as most of what I deal in is bulky and/or heavy.
