Screen printing is a traditional print process that uses stencils to build up an image. The stencil is attached to a screen - a finely woven mesh attached to a frame. The image is printed by drawing a squeegee at pressure across the screen, pushing ink through the mesh onto paper in those areas not covered by the stencil. There are different ways of making stencils for screen print; the most basic are papercuts, but a more sophisticated technique uses a photostencil: the screen is coated with a light sensitive emulsion and the artwork is exposed onto it. This process allows greater detail than paper stencils, and enables photographic images and text to be used. For each colour to be printed, a separate piece of artwork needs to be created. About the studio and equipment My studio is part of Centrespace Co-operative, a block of 31 workshops and studios that also manage the adjoining Centrespace Gallery. Centrespace, formerly known as Bristol Craft Centre, took over the building, a former print works in 1977. My own studio is a light and airy space of two rooms with an additional wet room for washing out screens. One room houses the print equipment and one is for design and drawing work. The print room uses a self built exposure unit, and includes three printing stations (one tabletop setup and two vacuum beds), and marble racks for drying prints. The drawing room includes desk space for three people and a large lightbox. About the tutor Simon studied painting at Portsmouth Polytechnic and printmaking at Chelsea College of Art, where he received the British Instuition Fund for Printmaking Award. He worked in London for over a decade as a scenic painter and muralist before moving to Bristol in 2002. He holds a PGCE in Post-compulsory Education and has been teaching screen printing to all ages and abilities for over a decade. He exhibits his work regularly. Sarah Goss Traditional Woodcarving

Radstock

Sarah specialises in providing bespoke hand carved items ranging from lettering and relief decoration to producing architectural details such as corbel brackets and ceiling roses. By adding hand carved decoration, items that are otherwise plain and ordinary are transformed into unique pieces that are personal to the owner. This applies just as much to everyday objects such as chopping boards as to more elaborate ornamental features to decorate the home. Wood carving is incredibly versatile and Sarah can either work from existing designs you may have seen or create a completely new piece for you. As well as producing the initial carved work Sarah can offer a variety of finishes including oil and water gilding using genuine Gold and Silver leaf. Sarah's interest in traditional crafts began whilst studying for A Levels in Art & History of Art at the Royal Latin School, Buckinghamshire. Through understanding how the country's great buildings were built and furnished, along with the reasoning behind their design, she developed an even greater respect for their creators and understood why it is important to maintain these buildings for future generations. From Buckingham she moved to Portsmouth to study a degree in Restoration and Decorative Studies at Portsmouth University. Within her first year she had grasped the basics in a variety of traditional decorative techniques including faux finishing, gilding and scagliola. In her final two years she decided to focus her studies on woodcarving and plasterwork- both in a restorative sense and in creating new designs using traditional materials and methods. During her time at University she was provided with the opportunity to hone her skills in both woodcarving and plasterwork. Her projects included 3-coat lime plastering, using the lime plaster she'd made from scratch using traditional recipes. She researched the historic and almost extinct technique of freehand stucco work, creating her own designs and experimenting with various recipes, including those that were used in the restoration of Uppark in Hampshire. Thankfully all that hard work paid off and she graduated with a 1st Class Honours. Sadly, her year was the last to complete this course as the University decided to end it in back in 2008. From Hampshire she was on the move again, this time to Shropshire where she began work with a heritage company. Here she built upon her project managing skills and learnt more about the structural side of building restoration, particularly timber framed buildings. Whilst she enjoyed her time in Shropshire, she decided that she was much happier in her workshop among the sawdust and plaster, which leads her to her current home back in West Sussex.

Southsea

Perfect Skin Solutions was founded by Dr. Dev Patel, our medical director, who was surprised by the lack of medical training some providers have, due to the limited regulations currently in place for treatments such as Botox® and Dermal Fillers. He has over 20 years of experience working in various specialities, during which he developed a particular interest in dermatology and minor/aesthetic surgery. Perfect Skin Solutions was born out of this interest, initially, only providing non-surgical solutions to prevent and treat the signs of ageing. With an ever-growing client base and remit of services, we made the inevitable move to our own clinic premises in Southsea, in June 2014. This allowed our Skin Clinic to merge with the highly successful Podiatry/Chiropody Service run by Nishal Patel. We strive to remain up-to-date with the latest advances in our fields and aim to reflect this in the treatment options we provide, whilst considering cost-effectiveness and clinical efficacy. From laser treatments for fungal nail infection to non-surgical facelifts with naturally-based hyaluronic acid, we believe that our passion for what we do allows us to stay ahead of the competition. We would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and client loyalty. We are a local company and do not use visiting doctors from outside the area. Our clinical team is made up of practitioners following the same ethos and highest of standards. If you have any questions or concerns, we are here for you. Traveling to the Clinic By Rail: The nearest station is Fratton (on London Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour route). After exiting the train, walk up the set of steps towards the front of the train. At top of the steps, turn RIGHT for taxis/Uber or turn LEFT if walking to the clinic (15-minute walk). By Car: There are variable parking restrictions around the clinic. However, there is currently free and unlimited parking in the nearby side roads till 1630 or 1730 (roads leading off Winter Rd opposite the clinic). If you are likely to be in clinic after that time, please use either the 1 hour (free) zone immediately in front of the clinic or for longer stays, the 3 hour (free) zone 2 parades north of the clinic (outside Q Build and David Antony). Unfortunately, we cannot take responsibility for any parking fines and ask that you read any parking signs carefully to avoid receiving a parking ticket. Accommodation: There are numerous good value hotels within walking distance or short taxi ride. Please let us know if you need any advice or assistance in this regard or with any other travel arrangements.

Kick It Out, football’s equality and inclusion organisation, has teamed up with a range of partners to launch the initiative, including Facebook and the FA. Most football fans will have witnessed some form of discrimination in football – on the terraces, in dressing rooms or on social media – but more needs to be done to move from awareness to action. Through Take A Stand, Kick It Out want to create a culture where individuals take personal responsibility for being part of the change. That includes fans, players, managers, CEOs, stewards, governing bodies, shop assistants and social media organisations – everyone on and off the pitch. Take A Stand is both a challenge and an invitation for individuals and organisations to publicly commit to their own pledge. It is also a movement that everyone can play a part in. Facebook is supporting Take A Stand by launching initiatives focussed on action, and centred on reporting and education. It is building a new automated Messenger service, for when fans are back in stadiums, enabling people to report matchday discrimination directly to Kick It Out. Facebook is also launching a new education programme targeted directly at fans of all ages. It is piloting this new training module with anti-hate charity, HOPE not Hate, delivered through clubs’ community and fan engagement programmes. The pilot will be launched in close collaboration with the England national teams, Derby County F.C. and Portsmouth F.C., before being rolled-out further in 2021.
